As a poor college student in NYC with no money and very little to do, I used to go to the Met quite often. After my $2 toasted bagel with cream cheese and a regular(?) coffee I would stride jauntily in and pay the suggested entrance fee - wait, I was broke and had a student ID so I was cheerily waived in for free. I would literally spend hours and hours just absentmindedly wandering around with no purpose or agenda. Dear God, the things I saw. All of this and more. Weapons, armory, costumes, pre Columbian pottery, Tiffany stained glass windows, all manner of Asian artifacts, an intact, reconstructed Egyptian temple, Arts and Crafts interiors, magnificent paintings from all eras and styles, coins, jewelry, sculpture and more and more. Room after room after floor after floor - like the spoils of Indiana Jones. Beautifully maintained and staffed, with restrooms and sitting areas that would shame the finest hotels. Again, I spent literally hour after hour after day after day at The Met. Quite literally the greatest museum on planet Earth, period. And if you grow tired of all of the magnificence, the best of NYC and Central Park lay just steps away. What a place!

Me, paying nearly 2 thousands dollars on flight tickets and spending nearly 14 hours in air, with the dizzy head, fighting my body which wants to sleep by the Korean hours, not the NY hours. All these to spend 2 days of my life in MET.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is my favorite place to go... both for inspiration (as a fellow artist) and admiration (as an admirer for great art). The surrounding atmosphere is just beautiful... I don't live far from the area-which is advantageous because I can go there frequently. I enjoy doing sketches of various works including the section where the Greek and Roman sculptures stand. And one of my favorite art works is the one titled "Juan de Pareja" by arguably Spain's greatest painter, Diego Velazquez. If you love art, then by all means take a trip to the Met!!

The Temple of Dendur is something that needs to be smelled to be believed. I don't know why, but the way it smelled was genuinely 2000 year old socks. Impressive piece of history, but boy the smell lol.

Every time I visit the met I am in awe that the Colossal Statue of a Pharoah is a survivor from biblical times ! Visitors are not allowed to touch this statue but I am guilty of having done so as I by so doing have reached back to ancient times ( and say a little prayer)

We were excited to visit The Met. Unfortunately, we kept getting lost in huge mazes and we were unable to find the paintings we went to see! The map they provide is of no help in that regard, and if you ask an attendant where something is located, they just point and say, "Go that way."

Only five pieces? I saw much more... and I think I saw all the pieces I was interested. I planned my visit making a list of all pieces that I though couldn't miss seeing. I was at the museum since 10 am unti 5 pm. It was hard, I found the Met very labyrinthine, but I finnish my visit very happy beacause I could see many paintings that I wanted to see since I my times in the Colege.

Hello, First, I really like your channel. Thank you for your creative work. As a Mongolian 🇲🇳 I would like to share two cents of my knowledge here. The Yuan dynasty was established by the Mongol-ruled eventually all of China early 13th century to 1368. Therefore, the Mongol part should be mentioned in your historical part as well given the “…Buddha of Medicine was painted in 1319…” Thank you.

It`s impressive how Western museums like the Met and the British Museum are filled with treasures from Eastern and Oriental cultures, mostly stolen from the countries of creation. That`s one way to build a collection.

Strange image of Medicine Buddha over there. Maybe it was a chinese interpretation? The original Medicine Buddha has a blue body and one hand inside of o pot with „medicine“. This one looks like more a Compassion Buddha.
