as a beginner myself, my biggest advice for achieving fry so far, is letting go of clean tone and not trying to overlay distortions over clean voice (as in, don't try to maintain the same clean sound while putting fry over it). they're mutually exclusive and people just end up with too much tension on true folds. the more fry you add -- the more of clean you shall let go of, stop thinking of making clean tone.
@sibilaextremevocal2 жыл бұрын
That's true and for some people, including me or few people I practice or practiced it works that way, but for the most it's very confusing. It's like you wanted to gradually replace your clean voice with the fry but to sustain the same resonance and setting of your voice, but use it for making the fry.
@MenchieExtraktАй бұрын
for me, focusing on dry helped me understand what fry is, but when I tried to project, I found it helpful to focus on the underlying clean voice.

Lol, so con: 3/5 advices are "just relax" pro: that's definitely something pulling me down soooo... thanks a lot for the video! :D
@sibilaextremevocal2 жыл бұрын
"Just relax" is a very general and hard to apply advice. If a powerlifter stuggles with benchpressing 200 kgs because he compensates his poor technique with shoulders, are you going to advice him to "relax"? If he really relaxed, he wouldn't be able to lift a shit :D It's important to understand what to relax, how to do it and how much, and how to use proper muscles in a proper way so relaxing anything wouldn't be necessary (if you use good technique, no extra tension appears, so there is no need to relax, you can do stretches and stuff which in a vocal context can mean warm-up and voice emission exercises beside more intense stuff). Trying too hard/ too loud/ too high is something so common and deadly for developing any vocals, that it had to be listed seperately. Focusing too much on a technique when it's too early and you don't have too much control yet or over-analyzing your technique, also kill attempts for mastering the fry scream. Constrictions in jaw, neck/ throat and tongue are also very common and they can fuck up any type of vocals you aim for. Is it possible to understand those 3 things if you get advice like "relax"? What to relax, where, why, how and how much and what should I do to not only relax where it's necessary, but still be able to engage proper muscles that should work? "Relax" is the same advice as "scream from your diaphragm", very general and only partially true and because of that, ineffective.

I kinda learned to fry scream with pitch but still not that confortable for me as false chord. Looking forward to this!
@sibilaextremevocal2 жыл бұрын
That can mean you put a little bit too much pressure on your true vocal folds, it can be done in a safe way, but it's very easy to push too hard. The most common reasons are: 1. Shallow breathing (it creates extra pressure that works against your vocal folds and larynx), 2. Trying too loud (it also increases the pressure), 3. Trying too high (it can tighten your true vocal folds more).

Everybodys fry scream souds different right? Thanks for the help by the way it realy helped me. And how loud should my fry screams be?
@sibilaextremevocal2 жыл бұрын
It depends how long you practice and what you are exactly able to do. Also volume is very individual. There are people with natutally loud voices and more quiet ones as well. Usually the volume of a basic fry scream is between 30% (a little bit louder than your speaking voice) and 50% of your max comfortable volume (when you have more experience and control).

my fry scream is good and nothing in the throat hurts when I do it at all but is it normal when I do my fry scream I can hardly keep it going for any time otherwise I start getting sorta dizzy and like my head will explode and its not because I run out of air it happens much buffore that
@sibilaextremevocal2 жыл бұрын
Hi! The most common things that cause dizziness or headaches are: 1. Too high pitch 2. Too high volume 3. Too high air pressure (sometimes it's an effect of shallow breathing, lack of proper support but also too high pitch/ volume). It would be easier to tell what causes such sensations if I had a chance to listen to your vocals so if you have any recordings feel free to send me it - xvocalcenter@gmail.com - I will do my best to help!

Hey man, thanks a lot for this video. Do you have recommendations on how to learn the proper foundation in order to fry scream? I am having trouble getting my fry scream loud. It is very quiet. I picked up from Jaime Vendera for melodic singing to breathe from the stomach area, push the diaphragm down for support and place the feeling in the roof of the mouth. Is this the same way to use during screaming?

Hi, in the description of the video there are links to a free course and e-book! There are exercises for building the technical foundation for your fry scream and exercises for learning and improving the fry scream itself.

Hi, 1:55 and what if everything is free(no emotions on the face), but the sound is exactly like you shown? I don't really feel vocal folds being too tight, I actually feel too much of an air passing through. It's like I take the whisper, enforce it and then close the false folds (I don't think vocal folds are closing too tight, because there is no note/sound, mostly hhhhhh sound) In other words I do hear the fry noise plus that air-ish hhhh 50/50. How to make it less air-ish and more distortion? On the other hand what fry noise distorts if not air? It seems like to get fry noise you have to push air just enough to activate false folds vibration...

on the number 4 of trying to hard , i am able to get my fry scream , but i am confused if i am using to much support ? i push my air as hard as i can to get the loudest screams , but i cant hold my scream for more then around 10 seconds . how can i still get that power and loudness but able to hold my scream as loud as possible ? if i hold back on my support i can sing a clean note for maybe 20+ seconds but idk why i cant get a powerful scream and sustain it for a long time

bro i learned how to fry scream last week, your vids helped in "confirming the noise" but your explanations of HOW to do it did not really help. i found out that fry screaming comes FROM THE FALSE CORDS, when you close your false cords tightly, and sing/shout a note through the little hole in your false cords, THATS a fry scream.
@sibilaextremevocal2 жыл бұрын
Hi, cool! PS You can do fry scream both engaging your true and false vocal folds or only true vocal folds. That's not my opinion, it's based on studies of people smarter and more educated in anatomy than me :D There is a whole playlist with fry scream materials and I don't know to which one you refer to. Also one explanation/ method can't please or work for everyone, that's impossible and this is why there are so many different aproaches, because everyone needs something different. Anyway, cool you found something that works for you!
