A great video and really great advice. Pretty spot on. Loved it! I will say that I have never felt a need to carry a firearm on trail, even in grizzly country here in Montana. Bear spray is enough for me, but to each their own out there.

Bear spray is normally what I am carrying too, but thought it would be good to show since some newer folks might get surprised seeing a sidearm the first time. Stay safe out there :)

Great tips Scott. I have seen a lot of these videos and think you had some really good tips. Another great video! I am more worried about people out in desolation wilderness than animals.

Excellent tips. I can't recall a vlog ever really talking about the reality of being out for the first time. One thing about protection, people need to check the local, state and federal regulations for carrying a weapon, even pepper spray, into the areas you plan to backpack.

I've come to rather enjoy pooping in the woods. I actually avoid pit toilets because that's where my weak stomach gets me!! Great video man!! Signal Outdoors (Aaron) is great too! Don't tell him I said that.

Awesome tips, thank you for addressing a lot of issues here, including the wildlife issue, yes, that is a big fear of mine too, doing some good solo stuff. The pooping thing is great too, backpacking with Jason is great. If you have a hike in CO near Denver that you can suggest for me to do as a solo, let me know which one it is. I appreciate your advice.

Great job Scott! I didn't know that black bears would actually kill a human as prey. I'm sure that fact will pop back into my head next time I crawl into my sleeping bag. Haha Really good tips man. Take care 🤙

Great tips, Scott. Research for sure will put a lot of fears away. Budget gear is great for beginning. For when you are ready to move up to more expensive gear I use www.outdoorgearlab.com. It is a great place for research for comprehensive gear testing and reviews. I also carry a gun out in the woods. I actually had to use it for the first time last summer when I got separated on the trail from my wife. She heard my 3 shots fired and we were reunited before dark which was a great relief. Great video. Take care and have a great day.

Biggest fear- lightning and tree limbs falling. Mountain lions tend to just be big pussies. Also, I’d consider a striker fired with a higher capacity and a manual safety as a trail firearm. If you’re going to conceal it like him (which is the cool thing to do for others), make sure you’re licensed in your state to do so. The concealed carry state laws still apply in the national forests and national parks.
