Was camping with a group of friends years ago and my wife (girfriend at the time) was taking a nap in our tent. There was a group of mid to late teens and a couple of adults at the next site. One of the kids starts shooting bb/pellet rifle in camp and the bbs are bouncing around. He got near our campsire a couple of times. I figured I'd just let one of the adults know that it would be better if he moved away from the campsites to be as safe as possible. I approached a man getting some water at a spiget and try to get his attention in a friendly manner and he won't look at me or acknowlege me at all. I was very taken aback. I finally just told him that I wasn't looking to ruin anyone's trip but asked that the kids keep the bb rifles away from the campsite. An hour later the camp ranger rolls by and talks to them. I have no idea what was said. The ranger leaves and they start talking about the "bitch" at our campsite (clearly referring to me) and how he called the ranger on them. I didn't call the ranger but I was the presumed ratter outer. I came out of the tent and read them the riot act and finally one of the adults said ok we'll stop. My wife and I drove into town that night, stayed in a hotel, then went home. Camping is a place to destress... Not deal with moron, rednecks.

When I go car or truck camping I always have something in the trunk, no need to talk about it. But when I go backpacking the best I’ll have is a knife as I’m not too interested in the weight of a firearm. That may change now.
