Big tip…especially for beginners…go on an easy local camp to test your gear before going on a big trip
@leesuschrist3 жыл бұрын
True. I did this and learned many problems with my set up. Ended up ditching a bunch of gear, which saved on weight.

Excellent stuff Tim! Hope you are well. I'd like to add: Unless you'll always be setting up camp in the Desert SW, purposefully camp in the rain. This is unversal, even if you're a "weekender," Overlander, car camper, or whatever. I'd recommend close to home, or at home. Doing so can help turn a potential future event ender into just an inconvenience.

Excellent tips Tim. I always taught my kids to leave the campsite better than what you found it. Maybe pick up some old beer caps or pop tabs or even just make it look neater. Really wish everyone would do that.

Good stuff! Take your gear on a shakedown cruise to make sure it all works as expected and you find out what not to bring (see over packing tip).

Great tips! I've been camping all of my life but only recently from a motorcycle. Keep up the great videos!

Excellent tips as.always, good reminders for more experienced riders as well. It is easy to forget about bears, or get too relaxed about not securing food while camping off the bike

I’ve been buying up the inventory for motorcycle camping (only did this on my truck, off loading the motorcycle and building out the tent over the back) but at 63 it’s tough enuff getting outta bed 🛏 in the morning…. let alone a sleeping bag. Mostly bought into this as a backup of SHTF and I need to travel light and quick and not with any destination but AWAY!!!

Very good, very helpful. If I have camper freeze dried food unopened eg Mountain House, do I need to put it in a bear box or some type of Bear proof container? I don’t take fresh food with me only the freeze dried stuff so was wondering?
@jonmueller21173 жыл бұрын
Yes you you need to bear proof all food even stuff like breath mints, chap stick, ketchup packs, personal care products etc. Dont throw food scraps in the fire, bears can smell food that is 99% burned up. I saw a black bear crawl into a car and lick out the ash tray for a piece of used gum.

Avoid this plan: "I never camped before, but this trip I'm gonna tent camp in the wild, cook my own food, take baths in the river, and do my own laundry." What could possibly go wrong? One Step At A Time, Grasshopper.

Setting up a tent at night, covered with mosquitoes is not fun. Ask me how I know. Thanks for your informative videos.
@robertberin48723 жыл бұрын
More so when you don't have a tent just a cot and a bivy sack. Did that at Kings Canyon couple years ago. Not again.

Zero of these tips have anything to do with motorcycle camping specifically. Title should be “5 tips for people who have never camped”
