I'm happy to see that Ruger made the cut here. I purchased a Ruger SR1911 stainless model with the G.I. 5" barrel and it is my EDC weapon of choice. The very first time I took it to the range I was very impressed with the accuracy of it. I'm not a great shooter by any means but at 10 yards I was still able to put 8 out of 10 shots in the "X" range and 10 range. The other 2 shots that went a little wide (I really need to work on my trigger control. LOL!!) ended up in the 9 range so I am very happy with this fire arm.

I have 2 Springfield 1911s; an older GI 1911-A1 model and the Milspec model. In thousands of rounds, I have had exactly 2 failures to eject. Both of those occurred when my sister limp-wristed the old GI model. Both have been flawless, regardless the ammunition I've put through them.

IMHO I'll say it and it's from experience the Tisas 1911's are not only the BEST bang for the buck I actually find them on par with my Colts. I have more than a few 19911's and have built many over the last 40 years so I didn't need another but I was in my FFL's shop and he asked me if I ever had seen a Tisas. I hadn't so he handed me a 1911A1 model. Perfect GI finish, great trigger, very tight lockup and it felt like a quality build. Then he told me it had a forged slide, frame and a hammer forged barrel and I could have it for just over 400 bucks, color me stunned. He had a half dozen models there and one peaked my interest, it was called the "Tank Commander". A Commander model in 9mm it caught my eye, Imagine my surprise when I pulled the slide back and saw a RAMPED, forged barrel. I had to try it out so it came home with me for UNDER the 400 dollar mark. I took it home in it's hard plastic case (looked like a copy of a Colt case) and disassembled it and I noticed no machining marks inside and all parts were built to GI spec. Reassembled and lubed I walked outside and ran through a couple mags of 124gr rounds. Great trigger, very accurate and no malfunctions I proceeded to grab every loose round of 9mm I had both factory leftovers, handloads and different weights and style of bullet. Loaded them into mags and 225 rounds later again no malfunctions. Okay then, the following week I went back and thinking that another build was on the bench I bought the 1911A1 I had seen before. I bought the complete pistol with hard plastic case for less than a Caspian frame and slide would cost me, way less. Went through the same procedure as the 9mm with it and again no malfunctions resulting softball sized groups at 50ft. The slide was tight and it received a Bomar sight set, the action was slicked up and a skeletonized trigger was installed. It went out for some Cerakote and after returning it easily outshot my Gold Cup and still cost me way less than my Ruger SR1911 all in, I sold that Ruger and kept the Tisas. Even if your an experienced hand or a first timer IMHO you can't beat the Tisas offerings especially for a new 1911 shooter. I've had a half dozen across my bench in the last 2 years for friends and family and never a problem and have gotten many complement's even with the factory dolled up offerings and the 1911A1 can still be found under 400 bucks, the model with the Novak sights and a few goodies might run you another 75, honestly the best deal in town for a fantastic weapon.

Came home an hour later and the stack of papers were scattered all over the house. This clunker was supposed to be a target gun, but it wouldn't feed target ammunition. Got so digusted with it that I took it to the local auto wrecking yard with one of those big-ass shredders that turn old cars into confetti and threw the POS into it.10 minutes later, the shredder itself got so sick, it threw up all over the junkyard. It's called a beavertail, and it curves upward to allow a higher grip while protecting against the slide bite. If you don't like it, just buy a surplus GI grip safety and drop it in. Most beavertail grip safeties also have a "memory bump," invented by Ed Brown, to ensure the grip safety is properly depressed to unlock the trigger when gripping the pistol. GI grip safeties dont have this memory bump.

This is like discussing the best Model T Fords for the money. From roughly the same era, they were amazing machines in their time. During the century since either was introduced, better products have emerged. A Model T is certainly a nice collectors item, and they can be used now and then when one craves nostalgia, but I wouldn't consider one for a daily driver. Same goes for shooting a 1911. They are interesting artifacts, but have been overshadowed by modern replacements.
