Yo pye - you sir are the man. I’ve been making SO much more money since I took your creative live class and you really re-wired the way I think about my business and how I see myself in the world as both a photographer and a dj. And my clients are so happy with in turn makes me happy. Keep doing what you are doin! I love the psychology stuff but I selfishly want more photography content but I see you out there crushin it. One of the realest dudes out there. 💯💯💯 And as somebody who has been in the DJ business for over 10 years (primarily weddings)…people who are successful in the wedding industry have the ability to bypass their ego and recognize that it’s the SERVICE industry. It’s not about you. It’s about facilitating for your clients and being a freakin Chamaeleon…while also being genuine and real. 😂😂

As I already wrote in the past Pye, you are not only an amazing photographer and a great educator, you also are a very nice and kind person. And seeing you being brutally honest and open here is really a joy for the heart. The world needs straightforward and crystal clear people like you Pye, keep up the good work! 🙌

Man, this was golden. As person who just picked up photography on a fluke, the photos i shot people actually like them. I then had to learn how to color grade. which i understood from video shooting. Im not sure if i want to be JUST A WEDDING photographer. I want to shoot many things. im am over weight and i agree, shooting an event is extreme for my body. My back hurts easily and i get over all tired within a few hours. ill be working on that. thank you for your video, they are genuine and i feel you care about everyone's wellness over all.

As a wedding and astrophotographer starting all over again in Europe, this feels like a fresh start and also, like learning all from scratch, again hahaha. But yeah, everything is quite like this. Very useful video. One thing I'd mention is, take seriously the training side of it. I'm not saying everyone should go the gym or start working out like crazy, but I did it for some particular kind of events, and also because I wanted to train again, and it made all the difference in world.

6:45 yes!!! That's something I learned the hard way doing event photography!! Also a good night's sleep before the big day and a hearty breakfast goes a long way. I do stretch before every shoot especially if they're in the mornings.

Pye is 100% right about everything here. Especially about being in shape. I am now 30 pounds over weight and I can tell you that photographing a wedding in this shape is excruciating on my body. I am now dreading doing weddings because of it! I am now on a plan to lose weight and get into better shape, I have to if I am going to keep doing this. Oh, and I just turned 44 so I am not THAT old lol. But boy do I feel like I am 65+ after 5 hours on an all day wedding!

Pye being able to ask 20,000 also depends on the area one lives in, in a depressed area getting $1000 a wedding could be impossible especially if the if the area has been in that state for decades and people will not spend money thank you for the video

In that case you could ask your guests to take photos with their cellphones and send them to you. Not the most ideal way of doing things but it’s better than nothing. I mean If you’re in one of those depressed areas i doubt a wedding photographer is on your list of concerns.

Yes and no. It's not so much based on where you live, but where you market your business. You might live in an area that can't afford your services, but that's why you market in places that can.

Not to cast aspersions since I admire this profession immensely, but I dated a few wedding photographers (incredibly good ones) over the years and all of them mastered their craft beautifully and are in demand all over, but in my experience they couldn’t find balance between their personal lives and their careers. Not to say all obviously, but that balance seemed to elude those I met in the dating world

Interesting. My work was in auto racing and real estate. But I'd be really interested in the demographic of wedding work. For example, how many $20,000 jobs are there really? What's the real average? Also, marketing has to be an issue. In my work, once I established with an agent or race team or sanctioning body, the work was there. Weddings seem like a one time per customer business.

Hi Pye. I am an amateur photographer, mostly doing candid, environmental portraits and bit of wildlife. I want to get more professional in portrait photography (indoor as well as outdoor) especially by using strobe. Can you please recommend how to go about it?

most controversial opinion I have heard over the years: Wedding photography = making money with dreams of other people. As a little background: some photographers charge almost twice as much for a wedding as they would charge for a birthday party job as soon as they hear the word wedding (even if the effort is exactly the same). Always the same sales pitch: It's a once in a life time event. Same applies to bakeries that make special cakes. The price almost doubles as soon as they put a tittle bride and groom on top. If you put a dino on top the cake only costs 50-60%

I'm not a wedding photographer but I imagine the photographer exposes him/ herself to greater liability with weddings vs most other events.
@NCPhotography
@NCPhotography Жыл бұрын
I think the ones who do this are hurting themselves and by extension their clients. In my opinion you have to charge the same because once you are a wedding photographer either you are a luxury or you’re just a regular photographer. Not to say you can’t do anything that isn’t wedding related but you have to protect your prices. I’m sure we have all purchased something only to see it on sale or discount a week later and it stings a little as opposed to when you buy something and it goes up in value you feel great for getting in on it early/getting a deal.
@payamjirsa
@payamjirsa Жыл бұрын
LtDeadeye is spot on. Weddings are generally more expensive all around because it's more work and liability all around. An 8 hour corporate event is not going to be nearly as stressful and difficult as an 8 hour wedding day. On top of that, the number of images and level of creative work that goes into it is substantially different. Regardless, "making money with dreams of other people." Isn't that virtually any industry? People get an education or certification because of a dream to become something more do they not? People go to therapy/coaching because they dream of being better and more healthy no? People buy a nice car because they dream of the lifestyle it might afford them right? Nobody buys anything that they don't "want" or "dream" of having.
