I got my three piggies a few months ago and my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. I adore them so much and love taking care of them. It is a lot of work and commitment, but the reward is huge. Seeing them happy brings me so much joy. 🥰

Just like the last comment, I enjoy caring for my piggies! I interact with them, I clean them out everyday, a big clean at night, every night, and change litter, change out beds and potty pads, etc., but I love them, and as you said, when I go in my big room, relax, see their adorable faces, their wheeking and looking into my eyes, running around so happy to see me, it's just so relaxing, it's not hard work, just a little time consuming. My children are grown, so I listen to something on you tube, and clean and play with them. It's definitely a relaxing activity, the best!!

Wow Sarah, I am still bingeing in Guinea pig videos. Still can’t decide. There are piggies foster homes within 2 hours so that is manageable. Haven’t inquired yet as to closest exotic pets vet. I would have to hire someone to help build a cage (watched your diy/C&C video); I am not that handy. But that too is manageable. Still undecided. Still watching videos.

So cute, so fun, so wonderful to watch … and yet full of reminders of the commitment we are planning on taking on in the next year or so. I am so glad that our understanding of piggy wellbeing and healthcare and behaviour is far more advanced than when I was at school many moons ago. We are going to start visiting our nearest piggy rescue to begin seeing them up close and meeting the people who care for piggies for a living. Keep up the wonderful vlogs Sarah (and the herd!) x

I had a Piggie as a kid, my parents bought it for me. He wasn't my full responsibility until I was old enough. Recently a friend of mine asked me to rehome her sons Piggie. He'd had 3 before her but he's a teen now and wasn't giving her the care she needed. I accepted, did my research because I KNEW that caring for them had changed ALOT Since the lat 80s early 90s. Yes it was THAT long ago. Which was how I found your wonderful stream! We've had her for 4 weeks, and she adjusting very well. She needs more taming but that's coming along nicely, its ONLY been 4 weeks after all. First thing I did was purchase a 2x3 C&C cage, because her "starter" cage was depressing. For context my 4 little parrots, 2 lovebirds and 2 Budgies, have a 6ft x 3ft aviary that reaches almost to our ceiling. They weigh a collective 167 grams. AS soon as the new cage came I tossed the old one. I'm already looking to expand her pig pen, 2x4 with a loft and under-storage. 1, To provide enough space to get her a Piggie friend. 2, see how interested she is in vertical space. She seems to like climbing over stuff so I'm hoping she likes it. 3, better utilize our limited apartment space. If she likes the ramps vertical expansions will be in her future, these will be shallow ramps. If not thats okay too, she gets lots of floor time.

The noise is a double edged sword. Sometimes their little wheeks and whistles are so cute and pleasant to listen to. I also particularly enjoy the sound of them eating lettuce - like a bunch of little typewriters going at once. Sometimes their noises are much more annoying, though. Unfortunately my pigs are in my bedroom and I am regularly awoken by them. 😢 Like when they zoom or get startled by a noise and scramble to hide. I even have one pig that makes the loud chirps after getting startled. She does that at least once every night.

Great video! I'm looking into getting my first guinea pigs. I've been thinking about it for a while! I have a question about leaving them alone for periods. I travel on weekends quite a bit. I leave Friday nights after work and come home Sunday nights most weekends. Would I be able to leave them alone for that time frame or would it better for me to bring them with me?
@SqueakDreams3 жыл бұрын
Hey there, personally I wouldn't leave them more than a night unless I had twice as many hay boxes/water bottles/pellet bowls. They would also create a lot of mess in that time where it wouldn't be hygienic for them. I think better to bring them with you depending on journey times, or have someone pop in and clean them out and feed on the Saturday :)
@danka60163 жыл бұрын
if possible, I'd definitely advise having someone come over to do a quick clean and feed on saturdays! leaving them alone for that long is okay occasionally but not great, and taking them with you can stress them out unnecessarily. I'm sure it'll be okay no matter what you do, but leaving them in their own cage with someone to pop in and clean is the best option here in my opinion :)

Yes if you can't upgrade their cage yet then try to give them floor time in a safe area everyday so they can get exercise :) You could provide a litter tray with hay or make it so they can jump back in the cage when they need the toilet. Hi Sarah. I can see that you have some guinea pigs with long fur. Do you cut their hair? One of mine is a mixed breed, and I am considering giving her a haircut, because she has trouble keeping her fur clean. She has bits of woodshavings stuck, especially in her bottom. Best, Dorthe
@SqueakDreams3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dorthe, yes I do cut my piggies with long hair - it's possible to trim around their bottom/sides/back legs without them looking like you've gived them a full chop. You can keep this "bottom hair" very short which prevents it from soaking up pee and spreading to the longer hair above. Definitely give her a haircut, just chop away matted sections around her bum and legs to begin with so she can be more comfortable, then a trim every week to two weeks to keep on top of messy areas will see her able to keep herself clean much easier :)

@@SqueakDreams Thank you. I like the way you have kept the fur long on top, so the haircut doesn't ruin their charming faces!

i have a question, i adopted a male Guinea pig and it’s currently staying with my other female Guinea pig. Is it wrong for them to breed so i can prepare the babies a home for adoption or should i just separate them, the last thing i’d want to do is harm my piggies because i love them so much.

Please separate them and don't allow them to breed.

@@SqueakDreams i knew breeding was risky and i would never intentionally breed them so that’s good cuz i have separate homes for them

So adorable 🥰. Great video. Yes, they are messy but make up for it ten-fold with their precious personalities. Yes, they are therapeutic- the worst part is the illnesses and losing them. 😞
