I will just say that I went to the Microsoft Store for support (there are 2 in LA) and they offered me snacks and a drink and let me play with the Surface Studio while I waited. Then completely replaced my device with a brand new one with no questions asked. Probably the best support experience I've ever had. Also, Microsoft devices get a year warranty included in the purchase price. So you don't have to pay extra for Apple Care.

I had a meeting on Monday in Singapore and my Surface Pro 2018 dropped from a table onto a cement floor and shattered. I called Microsoft and asked them where I could take it to get it serviced. The guy on the phone told me not to worry about that. They would replace the device with a brand new one for a fraction of the cost of a new device. I paid for it online via CC and they arranged for my laptop to be picked up by a courier and my new Surface Pro to be delivered within 5 business days....the whole process took less than an hour. I've been an Apple heavy user since 2008 and made the switch to Microsoft Surface last year because I felt it was more productive in my business environment. With how they handled the broken device, I can say I would find it very difficult to move back to Apple. Job well done Microsoft.

My experience with Microsoft support/customer care: Purchased a Surface Pro 5 (i7/16GB/1TB) online, unit arrived with a cluster of dead pixels. Not thrilled, knowing there's nothing that can be done about that. I took it into a Microsoft shopfront, the tech replaced the device on the spot for me, no pushing for receipts or warranty. Just "Here's your replacement device, have a great day". Really surprising and positive experience, makes it easy to recommend their products with service like that.

About your 2nd complain - the Hinge. You didn't mention it, so I assume that you don't know but the design of hinge was not to make it fancier. It has very practical functions. Your main machine, ie cpu, ram, memory, cooling are all in the tablet section (screen), so it is way heavier than just screens. If you had traditional hinge, your screen would overweight the base and fall over. So that is the reason why they have come up with this hinge design. It unwraps and makes the base surface area bigger, so that your Surface device is balanced and not going to fall over. I am SBPB owner. Absolutely love the device.
@SerialHobbyAbandoner6 жыл бұрын
This. I own the first gen surface book since it came out, and I have to say that anyone who is scared about the hinge probably has never owned a surface book because after using it for so long, it continues to surprise me with its durability. Anything that has gone wrong so far for me has only been software issues.
@dastanabilev6 жыл бұрын
Well, getting rid of heat is a bit problematic for my case of usage. I use SurfaceBook with dock. I have a monitor connected, so I don't need the SurfaceBook's screen. If I use the machine closed, the hot air will blow to the screen and heat the whole machine up. So I have to open the Surface for heat to dissipate properly. So if you use the Surface's screen - then cooling is ok. But if you use the Surface closed - then there is no cooling at all.

The hinge is great. You don't need to worry that some dirt between the screen and the keyboard will scratch it, which is a common problem is standard "flat hinge" clamshell laptops. Thanks for this video. As a longtime macuser and filmeditor I am very interested in the surface book, but there are two things that still keep me from switching: 1) the size (especially adding the powerbrick) does concern me for traveling and 2) unfortunately it is still not possible to encode Apple Prores on PC. In addition to this the whole advertising world in Germany is based on Apple, so there might be further downsides for me down the line by switching to PC. That being said, I am really unhappy with Apple (for a couple of years as a matter of fact and it seems they are getting worse every single year). If my budget allows it I might get a Surface book as a secondary computer in the future.

Is this normal for the computer and is it something I should worry about while my 90 day warranty from microsoft is still in effect? I just need to figure out if this is a normal thing and if I have to worry about the noise causing damage to the hinge over time? The fans are actually great. I believe that there are 2 fans on the base where the dGPU rests and it cools mine perfectly. Also has the bonus that those fans only have to cool the GPU, since the CPU and it's fans are in the tablet part. Only problem I've encountered with cooling thus far is that sometimes the GPU fans wont kick it. Which is solved by detaching/retaching the tablet to the base.

Replacement I received was new in the box but after some months had an issue with the hinge where the keyboard, trackpad and NVidia GPU would intermittently disconnect when the screen moved. The third was a refurbished device and had similar thermal issues as the first one. Basically whenever the Intel iGPU was under load like during a Twitch stream or Skype video call the CPU would thermal throttle down to 400-800 MHz. Tomorrow I'll receive the fourth device. I already dread finding out what's going to be wrong with this one. That said, when it works it's one hell of a device. Really good performance, although I never use it as anything other than a laptop. However my next device won't be a Surface Book again. On the plus side, hardware replacement is always really easy and takes four days from the day I print the UPS label and hand in the broken device to the day I receive the replacement.

im at my 3rd device too. The display of my first device got yellow on the sides after running for a few minutes, the second one looked like a construction worker used it plus had bright spots on every side of the display when everythng is dark (for example when turning it on). The 3rd device has exactly the same problem with the bright spots, a row of pixels on the top randomly start to flicker and i cant detach the tablet by pressing the keyboard detachement button (the light stays red for multiple minutes). The thing is i dont even know if its worth it to send it in because the next one will probably have problems as well, which is pretty sad considering the price of the device... I dont know how its in the States with proper Microsoft stores but here in Germany its a total disaster

My 4th device has the same thermal issues with the iGPU. I now found a pretty reliable way of checking for it, even without external tools. I set the device to best performance, with power attached. I start Chrome and open a Twitch stream (twitch for some reason is more taxing than KZbin, maybe because of the Chat). I then open the Camera application and let it run in parallel. In Task Manager you can monitor the CPU and GPU load. Usually once GPU load approaches 90-100% the CPU will clock down to 400 MHz and depending on the situation stay there for a while, even if the CPU has load on it and would need to go higher. On my 4th device what I found now is that if I use Intel's XTU to undervoltage the CPU/Cache by -90mV and the GPU by -50mV the lowest the CPU will clock to is 1.2GHz even under 100% GPU load. It's just sad that I have to do that in the first place.

I liked the review, but that background music and strange noises kind of kills the focus of watching it.

Okay, for some that owns one this has not been my experience. It gets really hot when playing games to the point where it effects your performance and the battery life sucks. I was play Minecraft not a huge graphic demanding game and it would heat up a lot but to be fair it doesn’t always do this just sometimes don’t know why and if you were wondering I didn’t have anything run in the background. I will say I do have the 13” version and I read that it’s not supposed to be doing that and I should try reinstalling windows in hopes of fixing the problem. This my only apply to the 13” version not sure but I would say if you are getting it go big or go home.

I wonder all this time later if you regret what you said about the hinge in your comparison with Apple since nobody seems to have a problem with it and it never proved to be something that breaks down at all. It ended up being something that was well made.

Worst feature: Planned obsolescence when the battery gets weak. And a cirquitry that basically bricks it, should you let the batteries go flat just once.

I've had my 2015 surface book for four years and the hinge never was weak or easily damaged and I've treated it like crap the last 2 years. It's been thrown around into drawers and everything.

How did you connect your Surface Book 2 with the monitor at 1:25 ? I have online studies and it would be perfect when I can see my prof in the monitor and in the meanwhile I can take notes with the pen on my Surface Book 2.

Nikka M I have one always in my laptop bag (I travel a lot for work). Take it out and bend it, it's a mouse. When you've finished, unbend it and it's off, slip it info a pocket in your bag. I do use an MS Sculpt mouse at home, though.

If portability isnt your main concern go with the surface precision mouse, or just get the mx master its the best in the market.
@filiperocha40256 жыл бұрын
I own both and see no problem with the base of either.
@filiperocha40256 жыл бұрын
I see where you come from, I will tell you this much, the MX is such a fantastic mouse that makes using any other mouse a bad experience really. I got the surface precision in a surface book package for free, I did like it and saw nothing wrong with it, but I just came back to the mx anyway. I sold it recently to a close friend and being that he uses 10 dollars mouses he is flabergasted with it. Perhaps if he tries the mx in a couple of months he wont like it as much. Familiarity makes the most out of any technological component. Its what makes Apple users being stupid cunts that say that Osx is more intuitive even though its pretty much the same. I´m a pro at windows, its only normal that I have more than a couple of problems when using mac. It goes both ways.
