Because Strive DOES need work. The playerbase is mostly due to the art style, music, and character design. The balance is so whack that it makes DBFZ look good and the devs themselves said they weren't interested in balancing Strive but more interested in making it fun. It has a large playerbase but it's not really a great game and even then, having a large playerbase doesn't make your shit good.

Tekken is 1000 times more playable than kof. Like i just want to play 1v1 in ranked or in a player match. I dont have time for lobbies. Having to wait 40 mins to an hour in kof to match with some dude with 200 ping is not optimal. Defending Kof is like being okay with someone selling you a broken product. Whats worst is they have no problem pumping out dlc for you to pay for, but cant fix there damn game...

As a B2-ranked Saber main in Melty Blood: Type Lumina, I can always find people to play online. I fight in a lot of Twitch streamer player rooms. When I stream someone always asks if I want a match.

There are weeklies for BBTag online. Maybe hard to find people locally. But the BBTag community is still there. More people play BBTag than CF right now on all platforms at least based off online. Even since I started playing in 2020 competitive BBTag there are at least 3 weekly online tourneys by dedicated streamers for the tourneys. The game is still alive for the dedicated community and it’s an easier game to get into Vs bbcf. And it’s still gets into side tourneys in major events too

@DDF Huh I never really look at the charts. My main gauge is ps4 tag because that’s where most people go. I will admit pctag lobbies are mostly for dedicated players due to the bad port it got and the improvement mod it might need. But honestly I’d still give BBTag as much of a chance as bbcf to be side tourneys at majors. I think what also helped BBTag overall over CF is that rollback got to ps4 and pc Vs CF just getting pc rollback. Both are great games and I do want to get into CF more at some point. But my main game would have to be Tag

man, UNIST was my first ever fighting game and has a special spot in my heart because I bought it on a whim aware and intimidated of the FG genre, but I learned Yuzu to a extremely novice level and had a few fun times online. Sadly, it's true about kof15. I'm a beginner and i love this game, but the matchmaking is trash. I look for players at any place/rank/connection and sometimes wait hours to find NO matches at all. Sometimes you find someone to play with but lag makes it unplayable or it's always that same player over and over again. So sad.

Unironically 3rd strike on fightcade is really great to get into rn if you tryna kill time before sf6 and dont wana spend money ona new game. You'd be surpirse how many newer players are playing rn. it's pretty easy to find people at your skill level imo. Been having a blast the last couple months. Highly recommended 👌 it's a pain to set up for alot of people but it's so worth it (and free)

Yeah man, it's good for killin time but it's not gonna do much for you in terms of improving for SF6. There's just too much goofy shit goin on with people saying "You should play 3rd Strike to prepare for SF6" when those two games are incredibly different. FGC heard the word "parry" in SF6 mechanics and just went full clown mode thinkin it was gonna be like 3rd Strike's parry system and that's the game you want to play to be a good SF6 player.

Yeah BBCF is the game on this list i've been wanting to get into since 2009 or so. I finally have it, boy the learning curve is quite a bit. But the game teaches quite a bit -- the overall game mechanics, and individual character tutorials. Plus I love the animated sprites look. The game is gorgeous with good music. Some fun character choices -- so varied.

I'm sure this was for sure done after since that was over a month and a half ago. Plus that has absolutely nothing to do with this list anyway. The current game is worth learning ONLY if your playing this offline and that's a maybe and its only for the competitive players who do that anyway. The online isn't worth touching so I see this as a don't touch D tier unless you wanna be a competitive player but even then I'd say don't get it because your going to have Rising which will have the rollback and the DLC and new moves, new tech, new data so you'd have to relearn the game in this new version making the first game not worth it. Just wait on Rising. So no the game isn't worth touching. If you own it the sure get on and practice offline. If you don't own the game do not give them ANY money for what a "cashgrab and I'm out" game like this was. Wait on Rising.

@@Fate862 I disagree. The game is very fun; I've learned it just recently with friends and the online servers are populated too. I'm a casual player. I don't get bad connections very often in my experience. No clue why you'd think this game is some sort of cash grab. I don't believe you'd have to relearn everything either, only the new mechanics. It's a pretty simple game to learn and if people are picking up Street Fighter V to improve their footsies for Street Fighter VI I honestly don't see a difference here. All I'm asking is that if they're bumping Street Fighter V down because Street Fighter VI is going to be the better game, shouldn't Granblue get the same treatment?

Honestly I agree mostly. Especially the with the BlazBlue games. I WANT to learn to play Es in CF as I love playing her in Tag but man that game is pretty "get gud" but it's pretty fun not gonna lie. Simply doing some of the combo trial just got wanting to keep playing. As for Tag, I think it's a good game it's a little obscure right now but I mainly got into it because of the RWBY cast so I have My motivation to keep playing as there's a decent player base still as I play on switch and PS4. Ask for GranBlue that game is fun as I've owned it for a while playing a little bit after rising got announced it is a good game and fun, it just sucks because of the delay based netcode

Mk11 still has tournaments for money literally every night. At least one Virtua Fighter from the 4 onwards should be in the "Must Play" tier, even today... this series receives so little love, just because it isn't as "flashy" as the others, but for those (like me) who aren't into flashy stuff, VF is the best 3D FG series, kinda the equivalent to Street Fighter, which isn't as "crazy" as something like Guity Gear or the other "anime" kind of games, but feels more "real", in some way.

I get that STRIVE's online is good... really good. But holy s*** the gameplay is just not it. It's too easy, so easy that players don't really play characters differently at all (no character expression), and instead they all end up sorta blending together (All Ky's play the same, all Chipp's play the same, all Anji's play the same, etc). If you feel differently, please feel free to reply, I would love more perspective. I would honestly put SFV up one higher because: A) SF6 is coming soon, and it is good to know how SF neutral works (it's very different from anything else) B) There is a HUGE roster of characters, each one with a LOT of different combo routes and ways to play the game, which makes a very high skill ceiling for each one. I'd also put Tekken 7 one higher too, as the online for that is also pretty good, and it has a MASSIVE playerbase with REALLY fun gameplay... and Tekken 8 is coming out soon too.

Strive's gameplay is great because character design is distinct and bolstered by how meter works. You can get polarized or specialized character archetypes in a game without them being dog shit since the universal system mechanics are so robust. Ky has a comically high pick rate, you're going to see lots of players that float around in the "I watch high level play but don't know how to block" which makes those folks feel samey to play. As far as Anji, he's not common so I can speak to him, and Chipp simply has a fleshed out gameplan at this point. You'll see variance in how top level players pilot any character regardless. NBHMR plays far differently than TestYourLuck or Hotashi, and Gobou makes drastically different routing and pressure choices than Johnathan Tene or Latif. Good net code matters a lot, and GGST has that in spades. T7's net code is quite weak by comparison, and I don't think I've player a fighting game in the past decade that has more people willing to plug mid match. Also if you want to talk about characters feeling samey, the entire roster has like a combined 6500 moves or whatever, but your gameplay at anything above red ranks for the majority of the cast is gonna be DF1, jabs, hopkicks, and your punishment strings, and maybe hellsweeps/electrics/demo man/your mix button. So many characters have gimmicks that objectively stop working if you lab/play the matchup for a week, but are infuriating to deal with since you need a punishment chart and their movelist pulled up just to deal with the damn things. I dunno, I put probably 4 years into T7, and I don't regret it, but if you have any intention of trying to improve at the game as a beginner, I wouldn't really recommend it.

@@sylascole5254 Yeah, I hear what your saying about Strive and how there are little differences in how pro players will play, but ultimately each character's movelist is just too simplified for it to be NOTICABLY different. I have seen top level Sol, Goldlewis and Nago mirrors, and yes they play a little different from one another, but in the end they have a LOT of the same combo routes and really similar neutral (if not the same neutral). But the thing you said about the "fleshed-out gameplan" is exactly my point. Every character in STRIVE (save for a select few like Nago, I-No, Zato, and the other harder characters) has a gameplan that everyone at a high level follows. The reason why I say I don't like it is because I enjoy games that encourage players to make their own gameplan instead of following what the character is "supposed" to do. It is cool that a few characters have flexibility in their kit, but it would be SO MUCH BETTER if every character had that. A big reason why I'm looking forward to SF6 is because that game looks like it has a LOT of potential routes for the characters shown so far (the drive system just unlocks SO many possibilites). Even every Ken I've seen in the beta plays SUPER distinctly from one another, and that says something because Ken was the most basic b**** in SFV. They are also solving the problem of the Shotos being super good in the previous game, and instead giving a new and improved system that accomodates all of the other character archetypes as well. Basically, while this new game keeps a lot of the grounded neutral that SF is known for, it is fixing a lot of problems, and introducing new things that they know that players will love, hardcore SF fan or not. And about T7... yeah, it's pretty funny how many people DC in that game haha. Frustrating, absolutely, but kinda funny.
