Is it difficult to change tyres yourself? What tools do you need
@PampersNorway11 күн бұрын
@@flesz_ What you need depends on your bike. On some bikes you need to dismantle some stuff like maybe the exhaust. but what you need is a basic toolsett to remove your tire, a set of tirebars (and possibly rim-guards), Lube, valve stem puller (recommend also a valve-key), a simple tire balance setup, Knife, break cleaner. and rim weights. (and a recommend a torque wrench) Is it hard? well, depends, harder then on a car IMO. For me, no, a 30-min job with the right tools, but i worked at a tire-shop back in high-school. For someone with wrenching experience, skim thru a forum post or YT vid and they will be golden For someone with NO wrenching experience and with a friend guide them thou it, an afternoon or two of cussing. But they will have learned a new skill!!! For someone with NO wrenching experience and nobody to help, with a couple of afternoons on YT taking notes from several vid's, and about a week of after-work fiddling and questioning themselves. But they will have learned TWO new skills!!! But: Make sure you have an even seat before balancing, tire lube is NOT optional. Overfill first fill to make sure the tire seats properly the first time, decomp at speed might easily kill you (do not exceed max rated tire pressure, wear safety glasses). Balancing is not optional for anything that will do road speeds or more, clean well before sticking them on. Change the valve, no just change it. You can create tension in the suspension and make it worse if you mount the tire wrong, find a guide. Wipe of your breaking disks with break cleaner, if you have gotten any amount of lube on the they wont work. Get the torque spec right on your wheel nuts, and set the tool back to zero after use, it will be ruined if not. Cotter-pins are NOT re-usable. And before starting, check bearings for slack, they are quick to swap if bad when you have the wheel of.

@@flesz_ it’s difficult. But worth the savings. Make sure you have a torque wrench for your axles and brakes. It’s super important to get the right amount of force when putting everything back together. A big help when changing motorcycle tires is the Harbor Freight motorcycle tire changing stand. I bought it a week ago and that made it so much easier to break the bead on my tires. Also, buy tire spoons (3 is best) as well as rim protectors. You’ll be set.

I had the Dunlop tires that were stock on my gsxs 1000, it was the worst tire I have ever riden on, horrible mileage and terrible grip, never riding on Dunlop again 😅
