I’m in Canada and bought a Canyon online last year. Canyon ships directly from their factory in Germany. You pay the price online, then it’s shipped. Once arriving in Canada customs holds the bike until you pay the appropriate tax for your province plus import duty. After this is paid UPS takes it from customs to wherever the hell you might live. Ontario tax 13% on a 5000 bike plus $700 import duty. So if you’re buying a $1000 bike, paying $700 more just to bring it into the country….. might be a bit of a shock. They built a nice bike though.

Co-Op 2.1 DRT. $1400 MSRP but you get right around $150 back in dividends, which puts you in the $1250 range. It has every upgraded part and criteria that you have mentioned in this and previous videos if not more/better with incredible parts on there and it is an absolute monster on the trails. Also, they are available right now, as I type with an estimated arrival time of 3 to 4 days. Just saying.

Excellent. I'm thinking about the 275 Fathom and this video put it alongside the other options. They are all good. Here in the UK we might also consider the specialised Chisel HT comp and the Whyte 905 - perhaps a few hundred dollars more expensive to be fair.

Great group of bikes. I tried to buy one of the bikes you mentioned on your last budget roundup and had a first hand experience with the shortage that you mentioned. I definitely recommend the secondary market (aka sites like PinkBike) to pick up a used but good condition rig. I couldn't find anything new about 6 months ago, but I did land a Trek X-Caliber 8 that had been professionally upgraded for well under the retail price of the stock bike. Regardless, thanks for the thoughtful content and Merry Christmas.

Awesome video! I'm someone just getting into wanting a mountain bike and have found your videos incredibly helpful. My local shop carries Konas, so I'm trying to decide between the Lava Dome and the Honzo. Obviously different price points, but that's my question...for someone just getting in and wanting to find out if this is something I really want to invest in, is the Lava Dome a good enough bike to really enjoy the world of mountain biking? Or would I need something like the Honzo to actually ride some downhills or learn to jump? I live in the heart of Pisgah in NC if that gives some context to my geography and trails around me. Thank you so much!

Get a Marin San Quentin 2. You will not regret it. They are actually in stock online at Two hoosiers cyclery up in Utah and they ship. Hopefully they have your size though as they sell out WAAAAAAAAY fast. Just some food for thought of course. Also, I'm 5'6" and got a small frame and it's super playful and handles jumps and cornering like a boss! If you're in between sizes like myself(on the big side for a small frame, smaller side on a medium frame in my case) get the larger frame for a more balanced, chill, two wheels on the ground riding style or the smaller frame for that in your face, in the air, fun as hell ride. You can always do both types of riding anyway on either size, just sharing my experience. Good luck man.

Thanks! I'd say the Xtrada is going to be a quicker more pedal friendly bike, and the Nukeproof will offer a bit more confidence for jumps/drops. Both will do fine somewhere in the middle, but if you value efficiency more I'd say Xtrada, and Scout if you value more spirited riding.

Yeah I would avoid the SX Eagle drivetrain based on what I've heard. I've had the NX Eagle on my hardtail, and it was ok. I've also used the Level brakes and they are again....just ok. I much prefer the cheaper Shimano stuff over cheaper SRAM, but they both make good high end stuff. What are your thoughts on Cannondale SE Trail 3?
@CobraKyle
@CobraKyle 3 жыл бұрын
Not a terrible bike at all. It uses a Rockshox Judy fork which is a bit more XC focused and only 120mm of travel. That only matters though depending on what type of riding you want to do. The seat tube angle is also kind of slack by modern standards, so may not be the best pedaling position for climbing. If the SE Trail 3 was $200-$300 cheaper than I would be more inclined to recommend, but for $1,500 I think there are better options.

Thanks Harry and Merry belated Christmas! I did make a list on bikes under $800 (2021 models). The Marlins in my opinion are a bit more expensive than their competition and are also more XC oriented. If you can pick one up used they are a good bike, but I think if buying brand new their are better values.

I know this was 5 months ago but who cares. If you are still looking at the Marlin 7, then you will most likely really like it since I recently bought Marlin 5 and it is sweet.

I like the big trail line. I was going to include one of them, but I was having trouble finding the actual retail price on them.

Hey @kyle, great list. unfortunately, none of them is available in Saudi Arabia. The nearest LbS is based in UAE. Anyway, with regards to stoic 2, as per their customer service, it has a thru axle (front and rear), the frame is tapered as well. Characteristics that Trek misses big time. One thing with Canyon though, its shipping cost is $323. Way expensive than CRC and Wiggle. Plus the tax. 🤦🏻‍♂️

How about some bikes with 2 speed up front. I ride trails that also include some pavement and going downhill with a 30 tooth only up front just doesn't cut it. With a 30 tooth I would never get to lower gears on the back.

They are sold pretty much exclusively through wiggle.com or chainreactioncycles.com. I just checked, and it looks like they've unfortunately raised the pricing on the Scout. They are in really high demand, so that was probably bound to happen.

I have a giant fathom 2 and its amazing, but between those I would go with the vitus sentier as it has gret geometry and big travel on the suspension .

Love the bike design kzbin.infoUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L and functionality. It is hard to align the front tired to center the disk brakes. The brake wheel touches the stationery side of the brake caliper and pad. I aired the tire up to 40 psi as the markings say 40-60psi. Left the house for a few hours and came back to an exploded innertube.All in all it seems to be a good bike. Have not ridden it yet though so that's the max of my knowledge. Update, put a new innertube made sure the tire was set properly and it did the same thing in under 20 minutes as second pic shows.

Do you do work for free? These videos take many hours of my free time to produce, and offer a lot of valuable insight for bike shoppers. I'm sorry me making a couple bucks off my hours of research upsets you. Best of luck shopping for your new bike.

I think for almost $1,500, these hardtails are overpriced. Especially the Kona Honzo, it doesn't even have the internal cable routing.

I find not having internal cable routing not that much of a deal since it's good for people who like to work on their own bike, Just saying.

At the time of filming all of these bikes were priced under $1,500. I don't control the industry pricing, so if some are over $1,500 now, you're gonna have to take it up with the manufacturer.
