That's a wonderful knowledge sharing. Thanks a lot. Btw, Birla opus is selling its luxury paints at the price of Asian paint's premium paints, is it market capturing strategy of sub-standard quality of the product? Pls reply.

Pricing is definitely very potent tool and perhaps the most critical 'P' in the marketing-mix for a new brand / product. While it is true that by and large customers want value for money which often gets translated as high quality - lower cost, it is also a fact that in such products high price is perceived by many as high quality! The biggest entry barrier in Paints is not technology or investment in plant (like Cement) but - marketing. And you know Asian paints has worked hard on all fronts for decades...from logistics to marketing. In such a scenario, entry of Birla Opus in decorative segment is an interesting development and we can expect all sorts of strategies and marketing games including veiled attack on trust gained by. Asian Paints in all these years. Quality for regular Paints can be taken as default, so I don't expect dilution of quality. You would agree perhaps that perception of quality is more important in thr market than quality itself on certain parameters. I am expecting some real consumer benefits emerging from fierce competition apart from creative, heavy dose of advertisements and costly brand ambassadors.
