@@PilipiHoops Very painful in the heel, especially when you wake up in the morning. I saw a podiatrist, who taped my heel, and gave me custom orthotics to wear. He also gave me a list of stretches to do every morning. Very similar to what Doctor Jo is demonstrating in this video. It flares up occasionally, and I come back to Doctor Jo’s videos to get my foot back in shape. Good Luck. 👍

I have plantar fasciitis for years. ( heel spurs too ). It went away for like a year about 2 years ago, then came back again. The pain is so bad especially in the morning that I sometimes go to the toilet on my knees instead of standing up and walking… I know it takes time to get rid of it but I’ve gotten to a point where I feel like nothing can fix me anymore. I can’t walk properly, I’m in constant pain, everyday for years, limping so bad everybody asks me what happened… I just don’t know what to do anymore..

Hey, Dr. Jo. I was wondering, if you have plantar fasciitis, how loose or tight should you wear your shoes? I basically wear basketball shoes 99% of the time (with insoles) with one “main” pair that I use for walking, going out etc., and another pair (the previous “main” pair) for getting around the house, and I wear the “house” shoes significantly more loosely than the others so I can easily slip in and out of them. But my feet seem to hurt more often when I’m wearing the shoes correctly, which has made me question whether you’re supposed to wear them more loosely when you have plantar fasciitis than you would otherwise, than I had thought...or if basketball shoes are not good for some reason. Thank you!
@AskDoctorJo6 жыл бұрын
It's probably more the basketball shoes. Even though they are helpful to keep your ankles stable, that does take away from having good motion at the bottom of your foot when you walk (heel strike to push off), so it might be when they are tighter, you just are stretching out your plantar fascia well on the bottom of your foot.
@xtlhogciao6 жыл бұрын
AskDoctorJo AskDoctorJo AskDoctorJo Thank you! I had assumed a good pair of b-ball shoes was fine (i.e. they’re gym/walking shoes with an additional ankle support-bonus), so it’s good to know that can have a negative affect on it, now. Also, if you don’t mind, I have a question about treating it - basically, I’m planning on stretching out my hamstrings and calves, and massaging stretching my fascia/feet fascia, and I’m wondering if you have any recommendations on what to do, or avoid (e.g. is picking up rubber bands/towels with toes for plantar fasciitis?), based on the following: My feet (mainly my left) have been sore for maybe 6 months along with an increasingly tight/sore left leg (ESPECIALLY the hamstring), and occasional lower back soreness, and at this point I can’t remember which came first (I assume they’re all connected). This is also the first time I’ve ever had foot, leg or back soreness (the only two initial causes that come to mind are that I’ve always been inflexible, and I’m constantly on my feet). Thanks again!
@AskDoctorJo6 жыл бұрын
You're welcome! They definitely could be related, but it's really important to try to figure out what is the main cause since treating one (for example the plantar fasciitis) won't really help if it's the result of a back/hip/knee issue. You don't remember any kind of back injury? Sometimes that can cause pain all the way down the leg. I have several videos for plantar fasciitis if you want to check them out for some more tips: kzbin.info?search_query=dr+jo+plantar+fasciitis But really the best thing to do would go see a PT for an evaluation to try to narrow down what the root cause is. Good luck!

Plantar fasciitis can also come from weak gluteus medius muscles, as well as back and knee issues. So it's possibly all related. Unfortunately, I really don't know though since I can't evaluate you.

Is plantar fasciitis more associated with the gastrocnemius or with the soleus? Sometimes I feel like the issue is due to my soleus being tight, so that's what I focus on a little more.
@AskDoctorJo6 жыл бұрын
It's often a tight Achilles tendon in general, and both the gastroc and soleus are a part of the Achilles tendon, so it could be either. Any other injuries in the past, knee, hip, back? Sometimes that can cause it as well.
