I have a 20 year old John Deere L-130 with a Kohler 21.5 Hp V-twin and 48 " deck. I replaced the original worn bushings with ball bearings in both the deck and the front axle spindles a couple years ago. It has a solid engine that holds up well and would recommend the similar set up in the John Deere S-240 based on my experience with this engine.

My John Deere X380 with 23hp Kawasaki engine is an excellent tractor mower that is equivalent to the old Gravely 4 wheel tractors as far as power and fine cut and great pulling capability without all of the extras like shaft driven mower deck that robs the engine of power. And gear shift transmission that is good in some ways but not really as simple as the Tuff Torque Trans On today's units. The X series Deere's come with a hefty price but are well built and will not disappoint performance wise compared to the big box store version.

My I ask a question? Which lawnmower will you recommend for somebody that has back problems? I don’t have a back problem I’m curious because some zero turn lawnmowers will shake you up like a salt shaker the faster you go. I am actually looking too by a lawnmower it’ll nice too find a riding lawnmower that rides smooth while I take a sip or water or coffe not wearing my drink lol

Any mower with a really good ride is going to be pricey. Tied for the lowest price is the John Deere Z530R with Comfort Glide seat. For about the same price you could snag a Simplicity with a visible suspension. But the most comfortable period is the Ferris mower. They all have near car like suspensions. Hope that helps.

Had a John Deere. Lasted 20 years but hated something about it. Having to push the button in reverse was so annoying. Will never have another one.

i think all lawn tractors are required to have that reverse button, its a saftey thing. it can be bypassed very easily.

I rewired mine from day one. Never had to push the button. Any small engine shop can do it. All steering wheel models are required to have that. But oddly enough the zero turns don't require it.

Husqvarna are a piece of junk. I had a 26 HP with a 54" deck. It didn't outlast the battery. The axel broke and the rear wheel fell off while mowing a flat serface. Husky has become a discount store product and is a waste of money.
