You’re very kind Charles. And thank you for subscribing. Most just regurgitate from the press releases or copy others. I’m determined to forge my own path. The history and development, along with the designers, make for just as interesting a story. I’ll keep digging and see what turns up. Ed

Hi Ed. Ive never achieved anything like that mpg figure with mine, only getting 39 once on a 69mph trip down the A1! Over 50k miles in mine now, simply the best daily I’ve ever had in 80ish cars. I couldn’t think of anything I’d rather drive for the performance and money, so I actually bought my 2017 car.
@Back_Road_Hero3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Kurt. That’s an instantaneous figure when it goes into deactivation mode, certainly not an average. It’s more like 33mpg average but I’ve got over 40mpg on a 110 mile commute (albeit at less than 60mph!!) Ed
@stevenbrennan80173 жыл бұрын
I did a 185 mile trip at around 70mph and managed just on 40mpg. On the return doing the same the overall trip was 38mpg. It'll do mid 40's at about 60mph, but that is really tedious. :-)
@Back_Road_Hero3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Steven. I was beginning to think my car was unusual. Runs more efficiently on 99ron super unleaded as well. Just done a 47 mile run to work and averaged 46mpg but didn’t go above 60mph. Just wanted to prove how special these cars can be when needed. Yes, boring indeed, but special. Ed

Thanks Ed, I had somehow missed this one. When the late Sergio Marchionne became Chairman of FCA in 2014 Alfa were all set to launch a new Giulia until he drove it. He was unimpressed and sent the team back to the drawing board before assembling the team you credit (correctly) with creating the Quadrifoglio. The lesser models were then developed by the regular Alfa Romeo team. Hope you'll do another Quad video soon - service plans are no longer the bargain they were and brake replacement is looming if you have any cost saving suggestions 🍀💯🇮🇹🏁

Verrrry interesting. The information makes the car all the more desirable (from a value proposition) as a sports sedan that can double as a daily-driver.

Thank You for this interesting video. I myself have driven many Alfa Romeo's in the past and I am overthinking about the Giulia now. Is it possible to inform us a bit about the Giulia's reliability for daily use or long term travelling thru Europe and is there a reliability difference between de Quadrifoglio V6 and the Giulia 280 HP 2.0 liter 4 cilinder turbo? Can we have technical support in Europe in case of car trouble because it seems that there are not to many Alfa Romeo dealers left. Thank You! Pascal Heijmerink from the Netherlands.
@Back_Road_Hero Жыл бұрын
Hi Pascal. I wouldn’t worry about the reliability at all. Just buy one that has been well cared for. Check for any faults using a plug in code reader and make sure that there’s nothing hidden. I wouldn’t hesitate to drive mine across Europe but then again I know that my one car is a good one. Ed

Good video. Almost worth mentioning that FCA spent €5BN on the development of the Giorgio platform - only to have it deployed on two cars (Stelvio and Giulia) instead of the originally planned 8 cars. Alfa new owners have shelved the platform because it can’t be hybrid-tised. This adds to the rarity of the car. The aero on this car is nuts - you can feel the car sucking the ground at high speed - all the aero work was tested in Ferrari’s F1 wind tunnel.
@Back_Road_Hero3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. They will never recoup the investment but we benefit from all that expenditure. 😁 Ed
@nessuno54033 жыл бұрын
Wrong Grahame, you read too much foreign press. The Grecale is based in the Giorgio platform too. The Alfa Romeo CEO, in Italian, has said they're putting an end to the name, but the hybridised version is a modified Giorgio so that lineage continues.

It's a shame the earlier UK models don't have 3 seatbelts in the rear 👎 That's one of the key factors stopping me from investing in one of these awesome, beautiful machines. Unfortunately my wallet won't stretch to a later model 2019/20+ which come equipped with 3 rear seat belts 😫

Wrong - the Alfa Romeo engine has its own code, 690T. It is not the same engine as the F154, but derived from it. Also, F154 comes in its own variants depending on Ferrari and Maserati models.
@Back_Road_Hero3 жыл бұрын
I never suggested it was the same engine. Just a derivation of the F154 minus two cylinders as well as other changes: crank, second ecu etc. Regards Ed
@nessuno54033 жыл бұрын
@@Back_Road_Hero verbatim @ 2:39 "it shares the same engine, the F154 unit" (only your section title is correct, but not what you filmed). Your list of F154-powered cars is wrong too anyway; try: Ferrari California and 488 plus GTC4, Portofino, Roma, F8 and even SF90; and Maserati Quattroporte plus Ghibli and Levante. This Giulia shares its V6 only with the Stelvio in-house.

All Giulias benefitted from the good Ferrari engineering, not just the QV model.
@Back_Road_Hero3 жыл бұрын
Yes Roger. Sorry if it came across that way. It’s just that the video was specific to the QV. Ed
@nessuno54033 жыл бұрын
Roger, not quite so directly. FCA boss, Marchionne, wanted the Quadrifoglio first, so it is it that has the full cream content. The lesser model benefited (in diminishing ways) because elsewhere, other manufacturers would have first developed and sold the base models.
