E39 M5 is tops for me. Also like many of the Lambo wheels of the last 20 years though personally I drive Ferrari. Most cars these days, when I idly play with the car configurator on the website, lose my interest when it comes to wheel designs. Current BMW, Porsche, MB: I just don't see anything I like in the least.

when i was a kid, I had a 84 gtv6 which I purchased with 200k miles from the original owner, i spent hours and hours debating with fellow alfisti online, i had my "dream engine" specs written down, this cam, this stage head, etc etc..so my goal was to drive the 200k gtv6 blow the motor and have an excuse to build my dream, after 3 years and another 60k miles *give or take*, i couldn't break it..every day that car met the redline a few dozen times, when i sold it the buyer said "this is the tightest alfa I've ever driven, runs awesome", alfa building a great car is nothing new. owned 15 alfa's in 30 years, mostly 115's, v6 camp, alfa's are issued souls at the factory. they each have a personality.

I own a giulia qv. After coming from an E92 M3, I must admit I did think it was a little quiet at first. I also thought slighter wider arches would have been great. After owning the car for a while though, I must say, I really love it. Its an absolute beast, but so liveable, and it really hooks you in. Chassis, steering and power delivery are really special. Sorry Harry, always love your videos but this one is not fair. It seems you just want the project to succeed and putting it against the current 'class-leading' supersedan and than trashing it a bit (for example 0/60 time and steering feel) while every journalist in the world points out as strong points, you try to push the project car up. Don't even want to start about the fact the giulia is a original 'mass produced' car that cost less than half of the project car. I understand you love your project but this doesn't do the project any good. This way it looks like the project car can't win the fight honestly while I think also that car deserves better.

A little harsh i thought Harry. You say it is a 9/10 car but you want more noise from the V6, more fins and spoilers and more excitement. Perhaps you should take it to the track Harry? How much can you really get from a 510HP, 1650KG rear wheel drive 4 door saloon on the road at semi legal speeds, over what it already gives you? 9/10 seems pretty damn good!!! It rides beautifully, it goes like stink, it has proved reliable and take it to the track and you can drift it all day long, or set a really fast time. Isn't this Alfa exactly what we have all been waiting for. Whats the point of a even more expensive hardcore version that you can't really use on the road, BMW keep getting it wrong with the M3 and that sounds terrible. I am pretty sure you could lose £10K very easily on this car. I think you are too much of an enthusiast perhaps Harry, with such a glorious history, we all want the perfect Ferrari beating Alfa, yet that history is over half a century ago at it's most recent really. Lets celebrate what we have here, a good looking, usable, well built, very fast everyday car that rides better than most in its sector. And without too many extras, a very competitive price point. M3 anyone, well maybe the new switchable 4 wheel drive one....

Increases the car's structural rigidity too. Italians are sometimes smaller so it's not an issue. That's why the Giulietta outruns any Golf too, as the engine is further back at the expense of front legroom. Germans are tall... Edit: out turns not outruns. Daft autocorrect

I test drove one of these last month, and can agree with a lot that you say. There's definitely a small lack of communication through the steering wheel when cornering briskly, but as you said the car just does it. I put it down to being so far off the limits at the time that the car wasn't feeding back anything awry. I think I need more than an hour in the thing though. The only thing i'd take issue with is the "9/10ths" bit - to me it was every bit deserving of it's accolades and not once I felt it was lacking. In it's aim of being a usable everyday rocketship I think it achieved, and certainly left me feeling much better than the Caymans i'd been underwhelmed with. I also drove a Veloce, and it felt special in a rep car way, but not a patch on the QV.

This video just happened to show up in my recommendations. I did not expect a review this good! I rarely quickly give a channel a sub and a like, but this one was deserved. Also helps that this is my favorite car at the moment haha. One interesting part about the car is the interior. IMHO in terms of looks, it doesn't seem or feel very new. Not much inside with the dashboard, instrument cluster, etc seems to inspire much. While that seems like a drawback, I think that will be an asset in the future. A full TFT instrument cluster looks nice now, but how low-resolution will those full displays look in 8 years? A lot of these new car gimmicks won't help some of these cars age well. My family has a 2007 Audi A8, and it has analog gauges with a 4.2 inch screen sandwiched in between. That's really helped prevent our car from feeling like it's close to 12 years old.

In the late 70's early 80's I had three Alfas. First a 69 Giulia with Weber carbs that was a hoot to drive but after putting in two head gaskets I had to let it go. Then a 72 Giulia with fuel injection that I drove from Vancouver to Toronto and back without a problem. Got 30mpg as well. Lastly a 2000 GTV that I loved but a drunk ran into the back and wrecked it. Sure wish I had that car today. Really enjoyed them all. Wish I could afford one of these new ones. Seems like a great resurgence for Alfa.

I'm with Harry on the conservative styling. I read that Marchionne instructed the designers to stay away from the gorgeous yet aggressive design language of the 159 and SZ, for example. I think he made the right call though for maximum sales. The average consumer is extremely conservative and conformist. Even if they love the look of something, they'll be worried about standing out too much, or, not getting the accepting nod from the Jones's next door.

since the year 2000 maybe? I don't know exactly. But cars aren't built as in the 60 or '70s, they got heavier, complicated and many of them boring. if this weight less than a Ton, the engine of the Veloce version would be more than enough, but for what it is, I think it's not bad at all.

My daily driver is the Q4. Quite a reliable car, at least for the past 18k miles (and 1 year). I've noticed a few quirks, like rather large side pillars, and a seat that retracts when you stop the car and open the door, and having to manually disengage the auto-stop engine function, but they all have workarounds (Pre and Post "flight" checks). 0-60 mph is a flat 5 seconds with a top speed of 149.5 mph. BUT, if you highway drive it, in "eco" mode, I get 36.5 mpg. I think, if you're thinking about getting one, lease or rent a Giulia 2.0 Q4, and see if you like it. I do love my car, but I dunno if the extra power, and a few more accessories are worth $85k, when I payed $37k including a 5 year 100k mile B2B warranty. Yea... never buy an Italian Sports Sedan or Car without a warranty. 😉 And yes, the turn signals are LOUD.

His criticism of the car is very fair, I own one myself and I think it is bar-none the best car in this class. I do not miss a single thing from the 2015 M3 I traded in for the Alfa, the Alfa is better top-to-bottom. But...as Harry pointed out...this car needs a little extra something. I think slightly more aggressive styling, a real DCT transmission, and more music from the exhaust (without having to resort to Race mode) would take it from the 9 to a 10. In my book at least. There is no other new car under $100k USD that I would rather own.

kcbasscadet Glad you are enjoying your Quadrifoglio (I got mine in November). I totally agree with you on the exhaust note but to be honest what can you do when NA cars are being ditched for Turbos? (give me the v8 sound of my e92 M3 any day). I’ve only owned one car with a DCT box and that was an M2. TBH I couldn’t notice the difference between it and the Quadrifoglio’s ZF gearbox (both change much faster than my left foot and hand ever could). Regarding styling then I guess everyone is different but personally I’ve never had so much attention (positive) than I have from this car.
