While common understanding if term Plank (in ceramic tiles category) is rectangular, elongated tile shapes, presently popular ceramic planks in the market belong to the three categories- A. Porcelain planks...most popular size Approx 8 inches x 4 feet. B. Ceramic tile having water absorption close to 6% which can also be applied on floor and C. Ceramic body tiles with W.A. more than 10% which only suites for wall applications. I want of the full information, we can tell general requirements for external wall cladding. 1. Lighter the tile, better. 2. Instalation with appropriate tile adhesives only. 3. Leave gaps between tiles and fill them with good cementitious grout, not white or grey cement. Nice video. Just wanted to know from you regarding the quality parameter which is the most important. That is Bending. I have checked tiles like Kajaria and others. One can notice the bends in almost all tiles . How this issue is still there even after so much of research and development.

This is a very big topic and out of scope for this consumer education platform. Planarity for all sheet like product is a big issue. When it comes to tiles, manufacturers across the Globe have been trying to minimise the curvature. Some amount of curvature should be considered as a characteristic of ceramic tiles, not defect. Larger the size of tile, more it gets visible. Also, degree may differ for unglazed and glazed tiles. I can say that what dimensional perfection good manufacturers (globally) are producing today, was never there for huge size tiles. There are ways that can better manage the curvature issues and there are tiles which are beyond tolerance limits. Your observation is correct. Thanks for engaging with OTF. Kind regards. - DV

@@panging2003 See, quality depends on actual product, Brand only tells you general perception which can only suggest most popular and widely used brands ... this way, Kajaria sells much more volume than Somany. Fact of the matter is that all leading brands make multiple types of tiles with different characteristics and follow the standards. Some brands acquire mastery on certain types of tiles and create a good track record. Having said that, there could be batch wise difference and some times issues ...and it is applicable to all brands across the Globe. The difference lies which company is proactive to attend your issues and resolve it. On face value, whether it is kajaria or Johnson or Somany or Simpolo or even slightly lesser known brands, all claim the same quality. Another important fact is that lots of people compare apples from one brand with oranges from other. This can create greater confusion. We are not promoting any specific brand like influencer channels so honestly speaking, first you should decide which type of tile you want, decide your specifications and then see the equivalent products in all good brands. Simpola Tiles are. the best quality. They r using Next Generation SACMI CONTINUA + TECHNOLOGY in Manufacturing of Tiles .NO other Tile company in India yet not using this Technology in manufacturing of Tiles.Its a open challenge.

I bought kajaria directly though most local shops and Tile mistri was suggesting me somany . Somany has invested heavily at local level marketing . But i bought kajaria bcoz i had watched their TV ads and i thought as they r investing such large amount so they must have invested in quality too. Though one premium product hardware shop told me to buy Johnson .

As such it is not very easy to predict the quality of a particular tile just by the brand name. All good companies make tiles which follow standards. Kajaria is popular brand and makes good tiles. @@sanjaybiswas1829 In white colour, there could be at least 3 types of different tiles. 1. GVT 2. Full Body 3. Twin charge Rarely any co makes product 1. Very Few companies make product 2 because it is difficult and little costly and they are not getting much volume ( johnson has been making it, for example you can check ). The 3rd product is glazed one. And much easier to make. White still cuase more rejections at factory level and little premium is often attached with it. You will get both- polished and well as Matt finish in white. Being sold in seller volumes, sometimes th waiting period could be high. Thank you - Team OTF

We can understand the confusion. There are two podcasts which might help you in making a decision- 1. Best 5 tile brands and 2. Difference between branded and local Gujrat brands See, it's very difficult to say of the tile lot you get from a brand will not have any issue... it may, in fact. Both are into selling tiles and all brands follow standards. But those standards are very basic while customer expectations are high. Go for one where you are getting comfort and commitment from retailer / dealer that if quality is issue, they will replace material immediately. The referred podcasts may give you required understanding / clarity. Also, it is not feasible to predict the quality on the basis of name as there are more than 800 small to big companies marketing tiles. Consistency and customer service (if the batch you got is not perfect) remain the guiding principles. People rely more on leading brands for this reason even though smaller or lesser known brands may also give equally good tiles. Thank you. - Team OTF
