The buck bantam is always a special knife to me, a long time family friend of ours owned one and died last year, when we went to his house for his celebration of life I saw his buck bantam on his workbench which happend to be where he passed away as well, I ended up being able to keep his knife and now it sits in my knife cabinet as my most priceless knife

I can understand why you would think that the RAT series from Ontario has the esee warranty because they come from the same mind that designed the esee 4, and so on. They are practical the sake knives. But Ontario doesn't have that warranty. Also Ontario dropped most of their steel down 1075 last year. I'm glad I picked up a RAT 7 before they switched. Great video as always.

I think you confused Ontario's typical warranty with Esee's no questions asked lifetime warranty. I think the two companies have a shared heritage or steel source or something but Esee knives are quite a bit more expensive and that is partially because of the unbeatable Esee warranty. The s35vn Izula is USA made and under $100 and would have been a good fit for this list!

The Spyderco Pen knife has become my favorite EDC. I wear scrubs to work, and cannot carry around a big heavy knife. It hit all the buttons for me. The size is just small enough. The weight is not even knoticeable. Has to be one of the lightest knifes that I own. The handle material is plenty strong, no metal liner is needed. Its got Spydecos amazing flat ground leaf shaped blade. And, that wire clip. It took very little time for me to realize that blade locks on EDC’s are not necessary. I have owned mine for 3 years now, and I carry it more than any other knife I own.

Kershaw managed to carve out a significant piece of the knife world pie for itself. Many ppl complain about the weird designs, low quality of materials etc...but somehow, they're afloat and doing fine. I was never a fan of this company until I saw Launch 10 and fell in love with it. Sometimes they can surprise even picky and choosy customers :) EDIT - I also got spring assisted fatback - very practical and pretty charming...weird XD

Kershaw arguably has the most reliable assist with the torsion spring design as opposed to the coil spring around the pivot... Plus Ken onion. At least, in my opinion, though I stopped buying Kershaw. I like closing mechanisms that don't put your thumb in the way of closing the knife.

Getting harder and harder to find a good USA made knife under a $100 that has good QC and quality, there are still some but that list is growing shorter all the time it seems. Fixed blades from companies like kabar, Esee, Ontario knife company etc. Do have some models under that $100 but usually in 1095. Just the nature of the beast though everything is going up in price these days just wish they would put the same quality into their budget knives like they do their premium options, which some companies do but not very many. Thanks for the great vid Jerad and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable.

Kershaw always have done some nice pieces fair play BUT there is always something wrong be it assisted, crap blade steel, there always just seems to be something otherwise they would have some excellent models. I doubt that makes sense but I’m trying to say it’s like they are always doing it on purpose just so they hold themselves back from really standing out. Have a great day J&K stay safe and healthy both😘👍

Curious about the new USA made Schrade budget knives "Slyte" there's 2 versions in the $50-$60 range (1 small and 1 regular size) in D2. Looks like decent knives should drop any time. They also got some in S35vn including a axis lock one, but the 3 USA made ones are $150-$250 MSRP, so probably cheaper at retailers. Hopefully you can test the Slyte Jerad? And maybe they will send you one of the premium ones :D

I would imagine Kershaw is where most of us started getting into “better” knives. I once thought spending $60.00 on a Blur was elite. I also prefer unassisted knives. Us options are sometimes limited compared to the price and quality of foreign made knives. It is a dilemma for sure.

The UKPK wins by a mile IMO. Not only is a great knife for under $100, it is one of the best designs for a modern slipjoint I've ever seen. Even without any kind of lock, the Spyderco foward finger choil makes it pretty much impossible to close it on yourself.

I agree with y’all about trying to do more USA made knives but I also understand that it’s not an easy thing for everyone. I have a few American made knives but I have to admit that most of my knives were manufactured in China. I don’t have the kind of money it takes to get the same quality US made knives as the budget knives manufactured in China. And there are some really good quality higher end knives coming out of China as well. It’s hard when you can get a decent quality knife from Civivi, Kubey, Sitivian, Sencut, Kizer, etc., and the quality surpasses most US knives of the same price. Sometimes you would have to pay three or four times the money to get the equivalent quality in a US made knife. We need to get some American owned companies to do their manufacturing here in the States, up the quality, and make the prices competitive. They will get enough business to cover the lower profit margins. They need to forget about cutting corners and make Americans proud without breaking the bank. The way things are looking now, we might not be able to get anything made in China too much longer. If we end up in a war with China over Taiwan, any imports from China could become history. If we end up in WW3 with Russia, we could be struggling just to put food on the table and survive. Let’s pray that those things don’t happen and we can continue with our knives and sharpening. Keep making those great videos, Jerad, and you and Kara take care.
