Also, bands who don't invest in QUALITY recordings. Like you said it's about a first impression. If I turn on a song and it sounds like it was recorded in a trash can, in someone's van, I immediately get turned off by it.

Kevin Powell what if a band is actually really good but they haven't been recognized yet and dont have the necessary tools or a recording studio? Personally if the first song i here from a band who hasn't been recognized is recorded badly ill still listen and see what they're about cz ive heard songs that were poorly recorded but they were really amazing songs and then when the band gets signed or gets access to a real recording studio they re release the song and its not as good as the original.....thats just my opinion tho, you dont jave to agree cz youre entitled to your opinion and yes sometimes when the song is recorded poorly it kinda turns me off too but if the band is talented its still worth a listen🤘🤘

It depends on what the whole video has in it. It's ok to have scenes in warehouses, just not only that one warehouse. Cut to different scenes, maybe actors in a different plotline

I genuinely respect how real you are about the first impressions. I’ve heard people say the opposite and it’s ridiculous. Trying to become successful in music is no different than trying to be successful in any career. You don’t show up to a corporate interview in basketball shorts and a band shirt. Same idea. Once you make it, go ahead and maybe mix things up a bit. But image is massive at the start. Even if the response isn’t necessarily a positive one, exposure helps. Kinda like a band from the 2000s called Attack Attack that everyone hated, but got inadvertently launched into the limelight 😂 You’re the man Johnny, and so was AA

Dude!! This is so important and I think it is absolutely mind blowing that most of the time these things aren't taken into consideration by new bands. I think it would be good to make a video on investing in quality gear and quality recordings(you get what you pay for)! Also talking about having merch that people actually want to wear (design wise and garment wise)! I think it's really cool that you are trying to help others succeed! You're the man.

Mistake #6 not having a social media for your band. I was searching for Bilmuri on facebook after hearing on spotify and couldn't find anything. Only to find information through Johnny Franck productions. I understand you have everything through your name, but when branding your band you probably don't want to have people who like your band do sleuthing to find information out about your band. Keep up the good work!

For me, the image. Never considered image aside from active stage presence. That is a big one, along with the artwork, even a unique font. We had an artist roadie who gave us a sick logo, but no representative logo or image. A band name with a font still isn't enough. Also, as a beginner band, dont mess around with producers. Biggest thing I came across issue wise, demo quality and studio productivity. Go into the studio with a plan, with material, don't just show up and be like "so what are we doing?" Cuz studio time will drain you, financially and physically. Don't allow it to distort your passion to make music when your on take 67 for track 1. The struggle is getting everybody on the same page from what I've experienced too. Dont let just one band mate do all the work. But yeah, I really vibe with all of what you said Johnny, I always had the issue of not moving around on stage enough and partially due to not wanting to mess up. Things for guitarists, rock out your rhythms, bang your head and coordinate those chords blindly as best you can, but present your leads like a 100 year old bottle of scotch, clean, and held high, focus the poor. The passion of a good lead lick is still a path of a good rhythm

Good idea's Johnny, I thought also that beginner bands play just to loud, I believe if your good musicians you don't need to play loud at least in a smaller venue. and don't screw around on stage talking to each other, your there to entertain and play for the people. Don't keep playing with your equipment I think it should be checked before you start your set. Like you stated, you need to look together and professional. one last thing, if your going to have a singer make sure they can actually sing, not just a friend of yours that knows all the words.

I agree with most of what you said except for the part about how each member dresses/present themselves. For a pop/mainstream band, if that's what you're going for, yes personal style is important. Think of boy bands. Each member of a boy band plays a role - the bad boy, the nice one, the shy one, etc. Or like the Spice Girls, each member is a standout one-dimensional character, Posh, Sporty, Scary, etc. And each dresses the part to play those roles. It's fake AF, corny, and attention seeking. We listen to music, we don't look at it. Rock music is typically the antithesis of such vanity. Of my most favorite bands, The Mars Volta, Rage Against The Machine, Deftones, Circa Survive, Radiohead, etc, each member pretty much dresses however they want without actively trying to present an archetype. Or trying to present themselves as what the audience would expect them to look. That said, this is gonna sound contradictory but, I agree about album art. Album art can really draw people in. I recently got into an awesome band called Coletta because their album art was really eye catching. But that is the purpose of album art. Versus, it's not important, to me anyway, what a person chooses to wear. That is their decision and I'd rather they be comfortable in their attire and simply be themselves. Carefully selecting album art vs. wardrobe is not the same. Music is not the corporate world unless you make it so. Musicians don't need to wear a certain outfit to be taken seriously. I think authentic bands should just be themselves and dress however they want to as individuals. Otherwise, you'd be a glam rocker - which is lame AF IMHO. We as fans should accept band members as they are. Because unlike album art, they're sentient beings with feelings, emotions, and individual personalities. It's like friends, I don't love my friends based on how they dress. They're my friends, I don't care what they wear. I feel the same about the music I love. I don't care what the musicians look like. I care about what they sound like.✌🏽😁👍🏽

If he and others like him fall away somehow from their walk with Christ, all we can really do out of the same love that Christ gave us is to pray for them to get back on their walk.
