I love reading Victor Hugo in English translation, 'Quatrevingt-treize' and 'Les Travaiileurs de la mer.' for example, as well as some poetry and plays. How is the French language in 19th century classics like these compared to French today? I presume it would be challenging for beginners, but for purposes of exposure to French language would it lead you to learning things that are archaic and not useful in speaking French today or has the language not evolved to be so different except for new vocabulary?
@TheperfectfrenchwithDylane Жыл бұрын
Quite different than current French. Especially in books :)

Dear Dylane, thank you for all your wonderful videos and books, they are very helpful. I wonder if you would consider writing a book compiling all the 'mots connecteurs' such as bien que, malgré, même si, tel que, etc. etc. I seem to have a reasonable vocabulary for objects and verbs but struggle to connect sentences in a flowing way.
@TheperfectfrenchwithDylane8 ай бұрын
That would probably be an advanced vocabulary but yes I could probably do that. Or at least a good lesson on them :)

Salut. Ça va bien? 🎄 I recently bought & finished your "French Long Stories" book. It was excellent & really helped a lot with my learning. So, thank you! 👍 I'm now on to Camus' "L'étranger", which is now definitely readable. (Faisal d'Écosse)

I've started reading the French translation of 'Charlie et la Chocolaterie' and so far it's not too difficult to understand. I think it might sometimes help to read stories that we're somewhat already familiar with so that we don't get too confused. That being said, I would love to read some stories that were originally written in French.

I love your channel and admire the work you put into your videos. I do respectfully disagree that L’étranger is appropriate for A2 learners. Yes they may survive the first chapter but the language is not easy and a beginner is not going to discover the many levels of meaning in the book. That said I join you in encouraging everyone to read it in French. It’s a wonderful introduction to Camus and existentialism.

I have been studying French for the past few months. I purchased four of your books including the recent stories books. There is something that i am finding difficult to get clarified. How do one form the complex nouns, including adjective -noun forms. For example, orange juice is jus de orange, but simple phrase is la phrase simple without de. There are more variations i see for complex nouns structure. I am finding it difficult to find the answer elsewhere. Could you please help.
@TheperfectfrenchwithDylane Жыл бұрын
That's easier than you think it is. Un jus d'orange is a noun, as simple as that. Une phrase simple is a noun followed by an adjective. The easiest way is to remember the noun even if it has more than one word :)
