I don't think I can read any book in one sitting unless it's that world's shortest book that's only 25 pages.
@Au-819
@Au-819 2 күн бұрын
You might want to read really short ones like Back Cat or the fall of Usher House by Edgar Allen Poe or maybe comics/graphic novels to start getting out of the slump

I hope you one day find that book you can't put down :) I'm a slow reader and most short books take me days or weeks, but there are certain books i love that the first time i read them i just couldn't put it down

I just saw the video where you talked about saving The Vegetarian for later. It’s not quite scary in the way horror books are. It dives into women’s struggles with the over sexualization of our bodies placed by men. It talks about the predatory sexualisation of mental struggles in women. It talks about body autonomy and the cultural/societal/family weight of expectations with obedience from women. And, it’s the perfect time to read it since it was announced this morning that Han Kang won the 2024 Nobel prize for literature!⭐️❤

Shopgirl! I haven't seen people talking about that book in a while, but I remember liking that one too. I'd recommend The Pleasure of My Company by Steve Martin, it's also short and it's funny and moving, about this guy with ocd who shuts everyone away but eventually learns how to connect with people

A short book rec I can think of is Mary Ventura and the Ninth Kingdom by Sylvia Plath. Its around 80 pages and I finished it in a little over an hour. It has easy-to-digest writing which helped me fly through it. Its an eerie and mysterious read and leaves you wondering with questions.

I think the shortest book I read this year was Snow King Catches His Snowflake by A.E. Valdez. It's Hallmark...with spice. But I really enjoyed it. Perfect to get you in the holiday mood. I read it on KU but the paperbook is about 229 pages.

For fans of fantasy/scifi, I can highly recommend the "Wayward Children" series by Seanan McGuire. Even though the series has about...8?...books now, each one is pretty short. McGuire's writing is also stunning (I read "Middlegame", a long book, this year and I'm slowly going through her backlist) so the books are worth it. I also recommend the novella "A Magical Girl Retires" by Park Seol Yeon. It's an interesting premise that asks the question, "What if what you thought you needed isn't what you really needed?"

Unlike with "American Psycho" I think you are appreciating the excellence of Murata 👍 you just find her oddness in "Earthlings" disagreeable. Many do, it is understandable, but we'll see if its genius grows on you 😺😃 I am going to read the massive Leon Forrest novel "Divine Days" in February (during a single day of which it takes place) BUT that will be my only long book for 2025 since I agree with what you said in the opener, even more so as I age 👍
