Hi Mattias. Grettings from Brisbane, Australia, where your Leica M8.2 is living quite happily with its sibling, an SL2. Yes, this is YOUR camera, the one I bought from Tommy H. The patina hasn't changed, it still works perfectly and I loved using it around Europe while I was working there. Funnily enough, I actually started looking for an M8 mostly because I'd watched your videos about it. Little did I know that I'd end up buying the exact camera I'd been watching on KZbin. I've had an M240 (which I wish I'd kept), an M10, and an M9M. This M8.2 is the only M I couldn't sell. It's just too beautiful. Say hi to Sweden for me. I miss the place a lot!

I may use other cameras at times (I now use Fuji X-E4 for street and discrete) but I don’t think I’ll ever sell my Pentax K-1 and the Limited primes that go with it. AF may not be blinding fast but everything feels right to shoot with and for landscape, architecture and low light the image quality is amazing. If they stop making them I’ll buy the last one and keep it always. The fact that my original Pentax *istD from 2004 is still going fine also after 17.5 yrs gives me comfort that the K-1 has a long life ahead of it to use into my retirement

Nikon D40x with an old 16-35mm F2.8 zoom. My first digital camera. For some unknown reason, the landscape shots had this quality, I really liked. A consumer cropped sensor camera, and the full frame zoom lens with the squeaky focusing motor, that together created an eccentric experience.

My main regret was parting with my Olympus OMD-EM1 Mk.II just over a year ago. I regretted it almost immediately. I have just repurchased a used copy and I’m really happy I did. It has the best ergonomics I’ve experienced in a mirrorless camera and is on a level with Canon’s 5D series. Likewise, the colours in the Olympus are fantastic. I do regret selling my 5D Mk.I and Mk.IV too, more so the Mk.I surprisingly. The colours that camera offered were simply fantastic, especially for portraits.

They're not expensive but still a little difficult to get a good condition one here in Dubai with absolutely all the bells and whistles it used to come with. I found some options on eBay but shipping was a hurdle. We used to have this baby back when we were kids. And while I wouldn't want him to deal with the trouble of buying and developing film in a digital age and with him being nearly 70yrs, that's something I'll figure out soon once our family are able to move in together again. (Adulting, some unfavorable issues back in India and the fact that my older brother has moved to Canada.) But for sure that thing would make us time travel just by the very presence of it in our hands

There is one film camera that I bought in 1973 in Berlin Germany where I was stationed in the Army. It is the Nikkormat. Kind of the poor man's Nikon F Photomic which I also owned. I had I think 3 Nikkor lens. The Nikkormat had and is still the best ergonomic camera ever made. The control layout was just a dream. I have never owned a camera since that even comes close. Builletproof build, small, lightweight yet very effective as a photographic tool. My last camera, the Olympus EM-10 reminds me of that old Nikon. Simple, all the controls and menus are easy to use and it fits nicely in the hand. The worst camera I ever owned was the Canon 5DMk2. Big, ugly and had the worst case of shutter slap below 1/250th. one of the only camera that I have ever sold was the first Fuji X100. I sold it because at the time I had no use for it, but that's a decision that I came to sorely regret. I bought it for 2021 and with the X100V hype craze I was able to sell it for 500 (and I was one of the cheapest listings online). The next year after selling it were simply filled with attempts to replace it as an ECD cameras (as I found myself in need of one again). I went from the Fuji X-T1, to the Lumix LX100 and LX5... none of them were really able to replace the feel of the X100 and its OVF which I really liked and almost exclusively used. I refused to buy another X100 as there was still problems that drove me crazy with it (histrogram metering and the god awful AF performance using the OVF vs EVF or back screen), and the price didn't come down at all. I was extremely lucky to find someone selling an X100S for 300€ + a ton of extras (inclusing a leather case, leather straps, dual charger, 6 batteries, original box, rope strap + original strap... counting everything in I might have had the camera for a little over 150€) with the caveat that it was sold for parts : the previous owner could not turn the camera on as the switch was stuck, and same thing for the shutter button. It was a huge gamble on my part but with a little of rubbing alcohol and dental floss to remove most of the gunk, and some carefully applied WD40 for lubirification, it works like new now ! The X100S not only fixes all the problems I had with the original (low res EVF, innacurate AF using the OVF, hard to used histogram metering in manual mode), but it's also in black which is my preference over the silver paint of those few first X100 cameras that looked like plastic toys. I'm definitely not letting that one go and will use it until it breaks. I have no reason to upgrade to any of the newer models.

Hey Mathias, another lovely video, and after two years of resisting your Pentax KP review, I've now finally succumbed and bought one. Ebay should really be paying you a commission overtime someone buys one of your recommendations! On another note, I think an older forgotten camera you would really love is the Kodak sensor Olympus E-300. A small but solid range-finder body, quirky box like volvo looks, pop-up flash, nice feel in the hand and simple well placed controls. And the colours from that sensor are wonderful, sometimes a little on the warm side from the weak IR filter. My favourite CCD camera of all time. It's the older four-thirds mount, which was mostly geared towards zoom lenses, but they have two lovely affordable prime lenses - the 30mm f3.5 Macro (60mm equivalent) and the stunning 50mm F2 Macro (100m equivalent.) And the four-thirds can take adapted vintage lenses, including M42, OM and Minolta MD. I've bought several on Ebay mint for around and below £100, sometimes with two kit lenses included. I think you'd love it. And if you end up liking the body, it's successor, the E-330 has a flip out screen, and was the world's first ILC to have live view!

I got my all-time favorite manual focus film camera, the Nikon FA, for $75 in 2008. It broke when I poked through the shutter and I just bought another one for $200... I guess the lesson to be learned about film cameras in particular is that they're not making them anymore, supplies are finite, and demand has actually grown. Hence, prices will remain higher than we were comfortable with a few years ago.

Same is true of lenses, including second hand. I bought a Canon 6D and a 24-105 way cheaper last year. I needed to buy another backup camera and it was much more for a second hand one. I also looked at the EF 85mm L lens, and it's now £100 more just 6 months later for second hand. I think because Canon announced they are no longer making DSLR stuff.

I sold my Canon F1. It made terrific images. All manual with the three lenses that I had at the time…changed up to an RB67 for portrait work and weddings. That too got sold due to its size and complicated use. I switched to a Mamiya 645 which I still have. My Olympus cameras I still use as much as I can. OM1 and OM4t plus OMD 1 mk 2 and the Pen f. Recent addition, TG6 and an old TG 810. It rains a lot in Oregon.

I too miss my KP! It did not owe me anything, though I’ve not seen one go as cheaply as mine went when I sold it. I also sold my APS-c Ltd glass at the same time, but have since acquired the excellent 43 and 77 Ltd lenses, which I’m sure are small enough to go nicely on a KP (should I ever replace mine)!

Not one I wish I would have kept, but one I wish I would have bought when it showed up back in the day was the Olympus XA in mint condition for $50 at my local camera store, but back then I wasn’t a fan of the 35mm focal length and was lusting over medium format. But, now I just bought one for $200 in mint condition as my “full frame 35mm” to pair when I don’t have my M240 with Summarit 35 with me and need/want something small and full frame. I’m so glad nobody ever wanted my old Sigmas, and pull out the dp1 and dp2M on occasion and am still blown away with the results when everything is perfect.

I bought my Leica M8 and M9 used and sold both two years later in 2019 because prices for both soared and I made a large profit. But I miss my M9 and regret selling it; it was in mint condition and the sensor had been replaced by Leica with the last sensor series made, guaranteeing no sensor corruption issues.
@Biosynchro3 жыл бұрын
The prices that the M9's are going for these days... Phew!
@MB-or8js3 жыл бұрын
I still can't get what people like about the M9 other than an emotional connection. The CCD sensor is overhyped - the newer CMOS ones can do all the old CCD could do.
@Biosynchro3 жыл бұрын
@@MB-or8js I agree. If they were priced appropriately they would make more sense. It's the price that is wrong, not the cameras per se.

Here the M9 is currently down in price again. Since buying my first M8 Ive seen prices on all the Leica models go up and down with 6-10 months intervals.

I really miss the Nikon Df for its sublime image quality but remember the terrible grip and was bummed by low light AF due to lack of a focus assist light. Ended up trading it in for a D750 which has served me well.

In 2019 I bought a Fuji X-T10 with an XF 18-55, both in excellent condition, for just 300 Euro. I found this camera so amazing that I sold the body and bought the X-T20 instead. But it's pictures didn't have the look which I liked so much from the X-T10 so I finally sold the X-T20 with the XF lens. What comforts me is the fact the the money from this sale allowed me to buy a used Sony RX1 which I now adore even more than the X-T10.

I 'upgraded' from Fuji XT1 and XPRO1 in the past and missed the image quality of the older sensors so reverted back to the same equipment and will not make the same mistake again 😅 35mm f1.4 and the excellent 18-55 ..... job done for my needs 🙏

I love my Nikon Df, which I only bought after seeing your video of the Df - after I bought it the prices have remained stable, and the camera is a beast, but also very rare today. I will probably keep using it until it gives up the ghost. Its a real keeper, and I have only a small number of lenses, so I am not heavily invested in the f lenses - I have 50mm and a 24mm - both 1.8, they cover most street and landscape situations well.

Use a Sony E mount at home and have the best of all worlds I regret selling my D700 swapping to D600 to this date - D700 was a pro sensor and what a camera !!! I'm not the type to ever sell things. I'm sure I could afford to fund some upgrades if I did, but each and every object I gift myself is well thought out, well researched, still does the job I bought it to do. They'll probably all stick with me a long time yet.

I used to just swap around old Leica M bodies all the time via Craigslist or whatever. The current prices just make it so hard to let anything go because I know the chances of me getting it back at the price I paid is pretty much 0. I’m just very happy and fortunate I kept around my favorite two I’ve ever had, those will go to the grave with me.

There are three cameras I wish I never sold; only one is digital. The first I wish I held on to, preferably with the same lenses, was the Asahi Pentax K2 DMD with the big built-in motor. The lenses were the Pentax 35mm f/2, big but I loved it, the Pentax 105mm f/2.8 and 135mm f/2.5, all gorgeous glass. The second was the Minolta 9, an incredibly heavy but super-solid professional camera also for film. The third was the Konica Minolta 7D digital D-SLR, only 6 megapixels but the colour science with that CCD sensor... Incredible, simply pure delight!

I had a Sony A7 II. I let my kid borrow it and she never gave it back. I did eventually get an A7 III but looking back, I have no regrets. That A7 II made much better photographs for her than it ever did for me, and she's now got quite a following with the photos she makes with that camera. But really the biggest mistake I made was moving beyond a cheap body with a fast-ish 50(ish)mm manual focus lens. I did my best photography (consistently) when I stuck to that formula.

My Sigma DP1 and my Pentax Q, I hugely regret selling them but at the time, I had no choice. DP1 is top of my list but my last one was an absolute bargain price and it came with a collector's box, filters, lens hood and spare batteries. I'm often on eBay looking and they generally come in at £200+ now and often they're not in mint condition. It's more than I'm willing to spend.

ahhhh I can’t wait to try a DF. There are two cameras I regret selling… the Mamiya RB67 I picked up super cheap, cleaned and flipped for a profit when I was a teenager. It wasn’t just a camera, it was an EXPERIENCE. I sold it to pay rent… alas. There’s nothing like a ground glass waist level finder. The other one is the Nikon Coolpix 950, back when it was current. I got on the “new gear” treadmill then but never actually enjoyed any of the subsequent cameras and slowly just stopped taking photographs. What a mistake.

Thank you for another informative and enjoyable video. What do I regret selling? The Carl Zeiss Flektogon 35mm 2.4, bought circa 1984 for a 35 mm Ricoh XR2s and which I sold several years later for $35, using that toward a Vivitar 28-135 zoom. The folly of youth. Now I enjoy a little vintage kit of 5 primes: Tamron 24 f2.5 Adaptall-2, Pentax-M 28 f2.8, Rikenon 50 f2, Pentax-M 135 f3.5, XR Rikenon 200 f4 with a Pentax K20D. I appreciate your video commentaries and photography.
My Leica Q! I bought one for a really great price a few years ago, and sold it for the cheaper "more modern" X100v... There is just something great about the images that come out of the Q. I'm currently saving up for a Q2 to replace my A7c as my "everyday" camera.

Same experience with the M6 - bought in 2016 for $1K in EX+ condition, but I kept it and still use it to this day. Never felt intrigued about the M8/M9 cameras - cropped sensor of the M8 was a no-go early on for me (even it is great for digital IR), and the M9 had too many culprits for my taste. Still love my M 240! The only gear I sold was my first DSLR from Canon (Rebel XT) with cropped lenses which I never regretted selling.

I wish I hung onto my Ricoh GR2. The GR3 that I bought with the money is objectively a better camera but simply doesn’t fit in my hand as well as the the GR2. The difference is massive. The GR4 should return to the GR2 form factor and use the extra space for a pop up viewfinder in my view.

Don’t have this issue, never sold a camera. Still have all the working ones, the broken ones end up as toys for the kids if there are no sharp bits. Traveling tends to have a negative affect on most of the broken ones, could also be my clumsiness. Usually I replace them with the same or next model.

My first camera was a Pentax, and there was something special about that too. It wouldn't have won any awards compared to other cameras if you were to pixel peep, but like the Pentax kP, it had an aesthetically pleasing, buttery soft focus and light. I find that the trick with most digitals is to mimic soft light in the settings. Generally speaking, depending on the camera's standard settings, turn down the sharpness a lot, turn up the noise reduction and highlights a little and turn up the colour. I'd be interested to know how others change their jpeg settings to produce beautiful SOOC images.

There is one camera I wish I still had. I didn't sell it, it was stolen! Insurance company were very good indeed for new for old replacement, but the camera in question was no longer made and I got a different model that was closest to it. The camera I miss a lot? It is the Pentax K-01, aka the Brick. Totally left field and odd to look at, but using the lovely little DA Limiteds and small Pentax primes, it was a gem of a camera. Sadly today the second hand price is 2-3x the price I bought it new.

My biggest regret was selling a black 35mm (film) Pentax Spotmatic and lenses. The Nikon I bought with the money was sluggish for me to use and the image quality didn't justify its increased price. Recently I bought a nice used one for shelf display. Who knows? Maybe someone will make a digital back for it. I'd get that in a heartbeat and buy some more Pentax M-series lenses!
