The cult of Osybus have freeing Strahd from his dread realm as a primary goal so don’t think a devotee would wish to kill him, an ex cultist would be cool to play.

My idea was pact of the undead warlock with strahd as the patron forcing the character to spy on the party. And somehow breaking free of his control along the way.

I’m playing a Tiefling illusion Wizard named Dracus Blackfyre. he was an orphan who grew up in an orphanage raised in the attic that doubled as a library. Old white bearded man helped teach him bits of wizardry in the library and he grew to love illusion magic because he used it to get revenge on the kids that bullied him in the orphanage.

The character I'm currently playing is a Servant of the Dark Powers She's Twilight Domain, flavoured with control over the mist Shes been a real blast to play, and gives me a little more freedom to use general lore that I know As a hardcore Ravenloft fan

I play as Paladin, homebrew Oath of The Grim Hunt. A sorta monster hunter Paladin, particularly against Werewolves and Vampires

I’m playing a Vistani character who works under more the good aligned Vistani. So far it’s added much more of a welcoming flavor whenever we come across other Vistani, and I’ve been able to talk other Vistani into not following my group around.

I wanna play a plain vanilla human fighter using only the PHB. I don't like power fantasies and think the sense of overwhelming dread and terror works better when victory is not guaranteed but less likely.

A character concept that I'm planning onplaying at some point, feel free to use yourselves! The scion of a great mosnter hunting family, nearly every male has set off for Barovia in the hopes of killing Strahd, and reclaiming their ancient homeland of Barovia. However, unlike his/her ancestor, this character has no interest in chasing after Strahd, even after their father vanished years ago. Rather, they're compelled to journey into the mists after their spouse and child are kidnapped by Vistani, Strahd desiring yet another toy to play with. A few classes could work. Monster Slayer Ranger would obviously fit, but I'm more biased towards Blood Hunter. I think it personally fits a bit more. Whatever the class, the race and weapons choice would be the same. Pick Variant Human, grab the Crossbow Expert feat. Take a whip and hand crossbow. Strategy is to basically keep as far form the enemy as possible, exploiting the Reach property on the whip, and the extra attack from Crossbow Expert. Perfect for if you want to evoke Van Helsing/the Belmont's from Castlevania!

I played through strahd as a astral self monk. The whole idea was to punch as much as I could. That was before finding a vorpal sword and using it for the rest of the campaign, before eventually getting to strahd and getting the most lucky nat 20 in my life, one shotting strahd by cutting of his head

I'm playing dwarf Twilight cleric with "Twilight is defense against darkness, night is time for rest, not a terror". And my dwarf is a tree-hater )

You could also have a Gloomstalker Ranger be from the Order of the Raven or as a wandering monster slayer ranger is another good alternative. If you want to a Belmont from castlevania maybe try a Paladin of Devotion with a whip and maybe a bit focused in Dex. You could also play as a Dhampir sent by Strahd's cousin (I forgot her name) whom could be the reincarnation of Tatyana to slay Strahd. For that build maybe a Echo Knight cuz you could reflavor it with vampiric abilities and it can give players an Alucard build without the whole 'Son of Strahd' trope which can get problematic cuz DMs generally want to avoid MCs. Another build perfect for Curse of Strahd is a Vistani fortune-teller you could build as either a Divination Wizard or College of Spirits Bard from the caravan troupe of Madame Eva.

I played for one session (because that’s all the Dm did before dropping the campaign completely) a Female Lizardfolk Rogue with planned monk levels that uses the spinal cords of her fallen tribe after they turned into undead, and formed a whip out of their spines. She was Castlevania inspired but really only by name being Sonia and by her use of the whip, everything else is original and on the table, for being a dude I apparently freaked everyone out when I was able to voice her with a shockingly accurate female voice. I also had the DM to increase my damage dice from a d4 to a d6. It was such a cool character that I never got to play beyond one session and it will never happen again since most of the people from that group we had falling out with eachother and I never saw them again. To this day I still blame myself for it even though I don’t even know what it was that caused it.

One concept I wished I had more of a chance to play through was playing as a Dusk Elf that was whisked away from Barovia prior to their fall when Strahd took over. In particular, this was a Paladin Warlock of the Raven Queen, whose desire was not only for Strahd to be vanquished, but also for the line of Dusk Elves to be restored from their death. This concept can be used across multiple build setups, or could even be an opportunity for a DM to add in a few surprises for the party down the line. Love this idea for shorts! Keep em going!

One of my players in COS is in fact a dusk elf druid who managed to escape Barovia as an infant with the Vistani. The rub being that SHE is in fact the daughter of Rahadin. He thinks his daughter died alongside his wife Patrina at the hands of the dusk elf enclave. She doesn't know anything about her lineage or race at all. She thinks she's a cursed wood elf. She recently met Kasimir. Things are getting interesting.

I was a human battlemaster the first time, then a Kenku Evocationist. Using catapult to throw bags of silver dust, or “danger glitter” was the best. My second best was flour bombing them then throwing a fire bolt in the dust cloud then watching them go up in flames

What if you want to become a true vampire and side with strahd secretly using the party to get close to him to uncover how he did it so you yourself can become a true vampire

im playing a ranger who has had horrendous rolls so everyone has labled me 38yr old ranger as still trying to get his merit badges.... strahd offered me immortality as a vampire ( not spawn ) and so far in the campaign... all the bad shit has been done from my party and strahd has been pretty chill.... so we all agreed ( except paladin who is our insurance policy )

I'm on this Campaign. Last night my party and I barely escaped a coven of vampires. One of my party members died and I had to carry my character's mom out I thankfully made the survival check (I'm proficient) and made it to the church with my party. I'm a level 5 Bear Totem Barbarian and my character's mom is a wild fire druid who healed me while I cover the others escape. My mom went down and I hand to dash while carrying her. My heart was racing!

I played an undead warlock in cos, and I survived. No really all I did was survive. I had a few tricks to help the rest of the party but besides that I was practically dead weight.

Never played curse of strahd, but ive always had a character idea for it Callus hollow a former kings guard turned Vampire by...well Strahd of course after he and his forcess attacked the kingdom Callus used to live in and killed pretty much everyone including the royal family who was for all intesinve purposes callus's family...why did strahd decide to turn callus into a vamp instead of killing him? No one knows but strahd, after a couple centuries of hiding away and trying desperately to not harm innocents callus now roams the land as the KnightWalker and viscous vigilante/monster hunter who feeds on only the most barbaric kf crimnials...but can he suppress his feral vampiric instincts before he finally gets his revenge on strahd? Or will he succumb to his dark nature and harm those he calls freind...yeah i spent alot of time on this guy (human/vampire fighter rouge multiclass)

I came up with the idea of a Giff Monster Hunter Ranger who favors the Undead as a potential character to play during Curse of Strahd. Having retired from military service, he took up vampire hunting as a hobby to fend off the boredom of retirement and has decided Strahd is his next target. While he’s not against liberating Barovia, his motives boil down to hunting what he has deemed “big game”. Is this idea viable in anyway?

Dante, a Reborn Oath of Vengeance Paladin of the Order of the Silvered Dragon. Killed in life for uprising against the Vampire lord and forced to wander Argnvost and later Barovia as an undead Revenant. Never to know rest, Dante seeks to right the wrongs of his fallen comrades and gain revenge against the Evil undead leader who created this cursed world of Barovia.
