I’m in Silicon Valley. The Peak Design bag called the Everyday Backpack is a $300 bag that virtually every software engineer has. It’s reached a comical status, like a Patagonia vest.

On KZbin the Peak Design is heavily promoted. Its high cost and not being found in local shops meant it was for nerds in the know. It is changing and I have been spotting Peak Design gear in camera shops Many great designed backpack don't export to the EU or UK due to the changes they both have imposed on import documentation and the collection of VAT.

In the 1950s and 1960s the typical British school bag was the satchel. Strap down buckle flap, two front pockets and made of leather or canvas with a shoulder strap. # In Germany the school bag was a brief case, handle on the top, two front pockets, a divide down the centre and the flip over top was usually clipped with a spring loaded bass buckle. These came with out straps, with a shoulder strap and with backpack straps. Not a comfortable carry, particularly when loaded with the books for four or five subjects per day. We were issued in school with a text book and these where often larger than A5 and 3 to 8 cm thick. Some where large A4 size and still 2-3 cm thick. I had two German brief style school satchels. The first had all the stitching rot away - no shop then had the heavy wax cotton thread needed for saddle stitching. The second lasted me from the age of 15 through to university and in employment. In use for 15 years as a daily carry strapped on my bicycle rack to get to school and college. I still have it. A rivet broke and was repaired. In the 70s and 80s most pupils at school had a duffle style bag for books and sports gear. I did not have a backpack until 1989 - a convertible, suit case opening with adjustable straps and a metal harness for travel. In the 1970s when I worked in a factory in Germany all the workers had a locker. In the locker they put their clothes for going home and in their brief cases they had their work clothes and may be something packed from home to eat. The canteens served excellent food that was a fraction of the cost in restraints. Many had their school brief case bags and arrived looking like smart office workers with very important papers in their brief cases.

I live in a vary expensive county, so having top quality bags like Jansport imported here for a good price is huge for many. I have a Digibreak pack and I use the tablet sleeve for a book and the phone pocket as a morning burrito pocket 🤭🥰

I have a Jansport Superbreak as part of my EDC and I love its simplicity and its light wight design. its pretty affordable and timeless too. im also the kind of guy who rocks Levi's 501s and Converse Chuck Taylors 😅

Almost every child born in the 70's in Sweden has worn a Kånken in there early school years. There were also a lot of organised outdoor activities back then even in the cold season, which is pretty long in Sweden, and that is when the padding in the back comes in handy. You will not suffer from sitting on a cold stone in the woods if you have the padding between your behind and the stone. It is pure genius. It will also make the backpack to stay in shape when it is not fully loaded. I highly recommend everyone to keep the padding.

I guess TUMI Alpha backpack worth a mention as well as the Synergy of Wenger, these two almost the standard EDC in worldwide airports. Unless you were limited within school bag or tactical bags. lol

I have the smaller version of the Rush 24 (Rush 12) and it's honestly the best bag I've ever owned. I literally give it no respect and throw it around everywhere, overstuff it, and it's still in good condition. I had a week long trip abroad and I used it as a solo bag and it had just enough space for all my clothing. I could imagine the Rush 24 would be even better!

Interesting video, where a $45 Jansport bag has comparable cultural weight to a $400 GoRuck bag. On that note, between the GR1 & the TB Synapse, what do you prefer for your EDC/Dad bag/work bag purposes?

5.11 is like the Jack of all trades they got backpacks , tactical pants, plate vests, duty belt gear, belts, knives, etc. Can't go wrong with 5.11

The problem with all of those tactical bags is that the people adopt the identity, comically, instead of adapting the useful features into their regular civilian lives. It's exactly those electricians (no shade) who assume a militaristic attitude once purchasing the bag, instead of proving the durability of a mil-spec product into their often demanding scenarios. I used to carry an ammo magazine box as a lunchbox as a student, it was reassuring knowing that I didn't have to be gentle with my sandwiches and snacks but there's yoga moms out here cosplaying like they're invading the MIddle East with their diapers and lotions. Even more criminal when these people have absolutely 0 personality and get everything in all black.

After buying a Jansport Main Campus, I will never buy another Jansport again. Biggest waste of $50 that I've ever spent. Not worth it at all and I've maybe used it twice. Very stiff straps, shitty front pocket organization, and cheap crinkly material.
