I noticed today that I basically never use my cross expecting it to land. I don't think I have ever landed a cross in sparring. I use the lead hand constantly, as well as the rear hook, and sometimes the rear uppercut, but I throw the cross maybe twice a round. Thanks for the video, i'll apply some of these in training to make my cross more comfortable to use.

Thank God I found your channel when I did this really helped me with kickboxing. I am a mistake number 1offender still tho. When throwing too close and you hit with your fingers instead of your knuckles heavy bag wins. I'm learning this lesson the hard way but luckily nothing is broke.

As a side note on tip 3, if you lean to avoid a straight counter like Shane did just now you put more weight into the bunch but makes you more open to shovel hooks or upper cuts towards the way you're leaning so keep that guard up
@TruePhil2 жыл бұрын
1. don't muscle through the bag and jam arm. sting bag, don't hyper extend elbow, cross is long distance move 2. Step in on jab and cross and pivot at same time midair 3. Take head off the center line when crossing, dodge opponent 4. inch elbow and hand closer so you can get there quicker 5. a to b and b to a. no looping, leaves you open to get hit.
@Horzydood2 жыл бұрын
Such a great informative video, the pivot while moving with the rear leg makes so much sense rather than keeping it in place and have to cover more distance for the strike.

At the boxing gym that I go to our coaches taught us a tip to rotate the shot so our pinky is about parallel to the ground, this helps to not hyperextend the elbow. Hope this tip helps you guys too!
@DarrelClouse7 жыл бұрын
good stuff Shane! Let's bring right foot forward as we push off with our jab. Bringing the right foot forward and quickly plant and pivot as we deliver the right hand punch.... pivoting, rotating the torso / shoulders, and bending that right knee as we complete the torso "twist" is what we call "sitting down on the punch"......loads of power with that plant and pivot. You offer very good tips!

Thank you Shane for making this video. I tried the straight cross on my punch pad in the back yard. I moved my head off the centre line as you mentioned and I instantly got a ton of power coming from my shoulder. This is a game changer for me, so thanks again. Also, I've seen many KZbin videos on rising elbow uppercut and was wondering if it would be a good follow through from the Thai clinch, since my opponents head would be down and open to the shot. What do you think?

This was a really good video, thanks! I am personally mostly guilty of 5. mistake, my right arm drops in most cases when I am trying to do 1-2-1-2 or any other combination where I need to my retract my right hand, as a part of a combination. Probably logically, if I just throw 1-2 small combo, I usually don't do that mistake, most probably because I can concentrate enough, due to combo being so short :D I am trying to concentrate harder with each and every training session and enjoy my time learning and advancing!

Shane, got a question that's been nagging me. How do you defend a push kick, oblique kick or any other linear kick. I got hit by a lazy push kick that hit my knee and hyperextended it and I don't want that to happen again
@felix34367 жыл бұрын
If it's towards the belly just pushing it to the side (opposite of which leg it is, so if the leg is on your left push it to the right) tends to work, also opens your opponent up for a hook or cross.
@briansull507 жыл бұрын
SoulLight if you stand sideways it is harder to hit
@GokuInfintysaiyan7 жыл бұрын
Generally all you have to do it step in if it's lazy. If it's sharp you should step back so I travels to near full extension then either catch under the heel and cover with the other hand OR just ram your body back into it. Saenchai will damn near hump the kick using the hips and flings even top level Nak Muay on their ass.
@iBeo017 жыл бұрын
typically you should try to nab a lazy linear kick (catching it) and taking him down but if you don't know how to do that you can still lift your knee and check the kick. There's also taikwondo counter kicks (I don't know how to do those) and a Karate lower block. For the lower block you want to use the opposite limb he kicks with and your forearm should hit his quad/knee and push him away. (If he did a kick with his left leg, you would use your right forearm to come around and down to his quad and push his leg away so he lands with his back/kidneys facing you. But counters to this include a fake so that you drop your lead hand and he hits you or the push gives him momentum to lead into another kick)
@soullight86327 жыл бұрын

cool video shane. i know you gotta have a good set up but i also like to throw the lead 2 instead of a jab. It is very effective if the straight is not telegraphed. ali used it against foreman i think.
@luk3037 жыл бұрын
what do u think about a lead straight?
@GokuInfintysaiyan7 жыл бұрын
When I think of a lead straight I tend to think you mean a weak-handed straight where you take the lead hand and pivot heavy on the front leg to throw a power shot from the jab positioning. But a leading straight would be okay in my opinion, given your straight is something the opponent can't time very well and you combine it with a hook for exiting or a double-jab for range keeping
@luk3037 жыл бұрын
Year you got it right, i often use the straight to set up a lead hook. But then again i also use it almost like a jab, just the the straight and out. I think conor did that against ivan butchinger aswell
