There is nothing wrong with accents, that doesn’t mean those who can’t understand someone with an accent is also wrong too. As someone whose neurodivergent, it’s very difficult for me to distinguish what’s being said if I don’t have captions/subtitles or I ask for them to repeat themselves. It’s not that I want to not understand seining with an accent, I physically CANT. Please don’t make us feel bad for something we are slo just as incapable of doing as those with hearing impairments. Great vid! We recently lost our 12 year old Pom to tracheal collapse. We adopted him at approximately six years of age and never used a collar on him. These guys really have weak tracheas. One thing that I would have also included is being careful about keeping their teeth clean. Poms frequently suffer form gum disease and this leads to heart problems. Our Pom arrived at our house with no teeth. He developed a leaky heart valve within three years of us adopting him and he saw a cardiologist for the rest of his life.
@Manhandle7307 ай бұрын
Yes they have terrible teeth. You need to start as early as you can with getting them used to dental care. For tiny dogs they are a lot of work. But they’re definitely worth it!!
@kathrynmettelka72162 жыл бұрын
Active Pomeranians love to run around, which makes it extremely important to keep them out of danger. Kitchens offer dangers to puppies when a puppy parent cooks. A cook could spill something on a puppy or trip and fall. Puppies, like children, have to be protected when they are young because they don't yet sense danger.

As a Pom owner myself I totally agree with the harness and early socialization/training early on. Because we did this our pom is super friendly and social everywhere we go with him. He loves meeting new people and dogs which is great because he is adorable! We do shave ours though due to us not always being able to brush him off often. We did leave his hair long for the first several years before we started consistently shaving him. His groomer and I are very surprised that his hair has not grown back weird or uneven yet. He’s 10 years old now and only started consistently shaving him about 4-5 years ago.

If his eye stains get hard I use cotton ball dipped in warm water I blot or wipe gently to loosen up the hard stuff and use flea comb and it comes out easily. I'm gentle around the eye area. I know he doesn't do stairs so he sleeps downstairs as the stairs are steep and I don't want him to fall.

Summary: -Dont use a leash, use a harness . A leash will cause stress on a dogs throat and the pulling can hurt them, especially small dogs. - Socialize your dog with other well trained dogs and humans, especially from 6-16 weeks old, this is very important in developing their behavior for the future. - Make sure to groom your dog often, train it as soon as possible to get used to frequent brushing and grooming so their fur won't get matted. -Wipe their tear stains often and keep their face/eyes area clean -Make sure to block off areas of the home where they are prone to getting hurt (unless you can keep close watch on them 24/7) such as the kitchen (so they dont eat foods off the floor the you dropped and might make them sick) or stairways (so they dont hurt their little legs ).

I had a pom for almost 18 years. She constantly amazed me. She was by far the smartest dog I have ever owned including the border collies I have now. I used to wonder how she packed so much smarts into such a tiny brain. She was more like a partner than a dog. She would help me herd the chickens back in when they got out, tell on the cats when they got on the counters, when I was making a quilt she would keep that rat terrier off the cloth on the floor, in the barn she would root out mice, and she never failed to make me happy when I was sad. She did way more things than I could tell here. All I can say is never be harsh with your dog, any dog. They all want to please you and if you can show them what you want and praise them they will try even harder to do the right thing. I finally had to put my pom down when she got a liver tumor. I miss my little friend.

@@CeceFamily Thank you. I needed that today. I saw a man in the store today and he had a pom peeking out from inside his coat. We talked about them. I have been missing mine so much even though she has been gone a year. So much death in my house it's hard to take it al in. My husband died Sept. 15, 2021. My youngest son died the day before Thanksgiving in 20232 My pom died in 2023 and I had to put down her puppy on the 13th of this month. She also had a big growth on her liver. The puppy was 16.5 years old and 1/2 chihuahua. She was a good little dog but she was.not as smart as her mother. Anyway I miss them all. My house is so empty and going to bed all alone with no little dog at my head or feet just seems so wrong. Anyhow your words of kindness mean a lot to me today. Thank you BTW I could understand you perfectly. You have a lovely voice and your advice is spot on.

Thank you so much for your suggestion! We'll definitely look into it! Dogs usually have zoomies after a bath, and go crazy running around the house - it's actually pretty normal! Ours do it all the time too after we groom them at home and it's so much fun to look at hehe!

Thanks a lot for everything, I will keep on binging your videos to be super ready and studied!

That sounds super exciting! A good and ethical breeder should already have started socializing your puppies to other dogs that she has and different environmental triggers so that shouldn't be a concern at all! (Of course that's always a big if - but you often get a sense of if the breeder truly cares about the puppy's well-being just by talking to them)

Hoping someone can help, I have two 10 week old boy pomeranians (from the same litter) and they are sleeping in their playpen together, however I can constantly hear and see them play fighting which is getting slightly more aggressive. I’m still new to this breed, and need help with training them. Do you think it’s best to keep them in seperate playpens/crates? I generally leave to go to work at 8am and they’re home together most of the day. What would be the best option for them?

Your videos are the best! I wish I was in NY because I’d 100% be coming to you! I regret not getting my girl socialized with other dogs, but she was sick when I got her at 8 weeks, and by the time she better and fully vaccinated it was too hot in Orlando. She’s 10 months now and she’s not aggressive with other dogs, but very shy and doesn’t really know how to play. I want to get another dog but I don’t know when it’ll be appropriate timing.
@CeceFamily2 жыл бұрын
Aww thank you so much!!! ❤️ At least she's not aggressive so that's a good thing hehe! But fearful dogs are usually incredibly challenging to train too as they're running away from the trigger instead of coming towards it. Just find a few close friends around for her to hang out weekly or daily if possible, and that should help to build her confidence slowly. Get another dog whenever you feel like you're ready for another year of having a puppy around - it's a lot of work to raise a puppy, and can be both mentally and physically exhausting we all know it haha! 😂

I did make one mistake when I got my boy. Roughly at 5-6 months old he had his first grooming appointment, I didn’t know much about the coat type and ended up getting him shaved… He’s 4 now and his coat is still recovering. I was so careful with my boy as a puppy, however he still got enough socialization. No collar, unless it’s already on and it’s only for a quick potty break. We did use an ecollar for off leash training, as we had tried everything else first. I definitely don’t recommend it for everyone, it’s just what my boy needed. We are able to get away with once a week brushing, because I am constantly checking his coat for matts. Most often I catch them when they can still be brushed out, and I clip them out carefully if I can’t brush it out. We use gates in our house to restrict his ability to go to certain places, and use a bathroom rn (his crate has needed cleaned for a while, I just haven’t had the spoons for it) when we leave the house and he doesn’t come with us.

I'm going to be a Pomeranian owner in about 4 months, feeling pretty nervous! I feel like because of my anxiety, I might accidentally teach my Pom to fear stairs, big dogs, and kids, haha... Should I teach my dog how to use the stairs? And if so, what age should I teach them? Or would it be better to not teach them at all and just train them to wait for me to carry them up the stairs? The downside I could see of this is the dog not knowing what to do if there was a house fire and I wasn't there. While teaching them to use the stairs could risk some accidental injury if I forget to gate the area. Do you have advice for socializing your Pom with big dogs and kids that may be a risk for them? I'm thinking of putting a coyote vest on my Pom at dog parks to put my mind somewhat at ease, lol.

My first advice is to relax - everything will be fine especially when you've done all the homework beforehadn like you're doing now! Yes you can definitely teach your dog to use the stairs, at what age would really depend on your Pom's size and your stairs but I generally tell people to wait until they are at least 4 months just so that they're less clumsy, and also just gate the stairs when you're away. While it's possible to teach your dog to wait for you to carry them up the stairs (both of my Poms know how to wait for me even though they are capable of climbing up if they really want to), I wouldn't trust a puppy home alone with stairs ungated especially when puppies are so prone to hip and knee issue as their joints are still growing at this period.

There are always big dogs that are good and gentle with small dogs, and big dogs that aren't a good fit and play a bit too rough for their safety. It's usually pretty easy to tell one from the other once you learn how to read their body language. So you know just observe the kids and the big dogs's body language, and only let them hang out around gentler big dogs. I mean worst comes to worst, you can always intervene if it becomes too much for them so don't worry too much!

Very helpful video, thank you so much! All of these things are really good to know. My Pomeranian (his name is Nyro and he's a bit older than two years) is luckily quite well behaved, although lately he has been whining very often. We suspect it's because of a female dog in our neighborhood who is in heat, because he's also very active, humps our shoes sometimes, and outside he starts pulling the leash like he never does otherwise. It has been like this for two days now, but it isn't the first time he's like this and it usually goes away after some time, but we never know how to deal with this situation, since we definitely don't wanna punish our dog (we only reward him for good behaviour and tell him something is wrong by saying "no"), but the noises he makes are kind of aggravating when you're trying to do work or talk to each other.

My pom Sylvie is reactive towards people, dogs, and inanimate objects. She's slowly getting better but when it comes to inanimate objects, I have to nudge it with my foot to make her realize it's safe. When I got her, her old owner said she was 8 months old, but first trip at the vet told me she was 1-2 years old. I have a toy Aussie who used to have that issue but we've been able to fix it and he does much better now. My biggest issue is my papillon is extremely social but he also likes to cause trouble, so even if he's not bothered by the sight of other people/dogs, he'll alert her to it and she'll get into a barking fiasco. Still, she's getting better.

Thank you for not giving up on their behavioral issues and continually working on them! I’m sure they’ll improve after consistent exposure to the triggers and counter-conditioning at the right threshold ❤️

Love our lil Pomeranian, but the socialization thing we can relate to and can not get our lil guy out of the problem it caused, We live in Australia and got Rin February 2021. We got him at 8 weeks old, from the time he was born till we got him there had been bad bushfires. The person we got him from had been isolated because of the fires and everyone was told to stay inside because of the smoke, the bushfires lasted 2 months. Then for near 3 weeks after we got him we had torrential rain and thunderstorms nearly every day So where stuck inside. 2 weeks after getting our little man, Covid hit and we where put in lockdown for a little over 8 months. He is now 4, and while he is good with us and close family, (the few we could let him be social with thanks to fires, rain and covid) he is extremely reactive when taking him on walks or out, so often looking for places that have no people or other dogs :(

I have made mistake #2. I waited till she got all her shots and now she’s afraid of everything. I have her in training and my trainer says to start taking her to parks where she can approach people if she wants to to help build her confidence. I was thinking of taking her to my university. She gets really excited near people and pees and my vet said it’ll go away so I’m hoping it goes away soon. I take her on walks and she freezes every time she sees a person or a dog. I’ve been using treats to get her to focus on me so I’ll keep trying that

I'm so glad you're getting her the help she needs, and that you keep trying to counter-condition her fears with positive reinforcement. She's lucky to have you & I'm sure she'll get better soon with more practice and training!

Mine hates the sound of a motorcycle. Even if we're inside our car she will still bark and bark and bark 😅 thanks for this video. I learned a lot❤❤
@CeceFamily2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! ❤️ Maybe try playing the sound of motorcycle from your phone at home at a low decibel first and reward her with treats so she can make a positive association with the sound, and gradually increase the volume, and finally when she's ready - bring her outside close to a motorcycle but far enough so she won't react to it and repeat the same process? I hope this helps - this might take time to get rid of though haha! She's soooooo cute btw!!! I love her dress in your photo! ❤️ And hey my English name is Jane too 😛

I'm so lucky my pom is a "throwback" and around 17 lb. It makes her much less fragile, but I still never use the leash on her collar. She makes coughing sounds when I even touch her neck. I definitely don't want to pull on it. Congrats on becoming a dog trainer!

NEVER have your Pom groomed by anyone not trained in grooming Poms. Shaving a Pom destroys their beautiful coat and it will never look the same. Speaking from experience.

If I have a backyard so i still need to walk my pom or letting her run around in the backyard is ok?
@jasonalkuhaili90012 жыл бұрын
hi, I already asked you this but I think I have u the wrong details. I have 2 poms and they have been fighting. I don't think they are play fighting because they are biting each other and one is biting off the others fur. They are both 4 months old. thanks
@CeceFamily2 жыл бұрын
Without seeing their video playing with each other, it's really hard to tell for me. One thing I know though, young puppies usually have a tendency to play a bit too rough and also very mouthy while playing. Like it or not, other puppies are usually the best teacher for them to learn how to play less rough! For example, if one puppy is biting too hard, the other puppy will communicate and let the puppy know hey it's not ok so eventually the puppy will learn to control their bite more when they play with each other. One quick way you can use to test is when you see puppy A is biting puppy B, try holding puppy A body so the puppy can't run towards puppy B, give puppy B a break, and see if puppy B is coming back to puppy A to ask for more. If A is still coming back to play with B, it means they actually enjoy playing with each other and the biting doesn't really bother them/hurt them that much - so you're good!

Pomeranians definitely must be thoroughly socialized asap unfortunately my mother's pom was extremely ill and very delicate for several weeks from the day he came home and needed constant care for the first entire week which caused him to not only miss out on that vital time window but form the mother of all attachment issues. He's not a fan of strangers on the street outside the window and while he will tolerate the presence of people in public even large noisy crowds, he refuses to allow anyone to touch him unless my mom literally puts their hand on him and it does nothing but stress him out so she usually refuses 90% of the time he's fine with other dogs especially younger and surprisingly much larger dogs and he adores cats considering he lives with 3 but he is very picky with the people he allows around him
