Wow! You have cleared up for me many questions about bowing technique - especially how the thumb moves from tip to frog. I was under the impression with other violin videos on bowing that the thumb is to stay curved all the time - an impossible feat (for me at least). Thank you for clearing that up!

Excellant! Thank you. My biggest is index too far from 2nd. I'll work on curve index curve pinky. I'm using nylon around frog to lock 3rd finger to side of frog. I now place pad of 3rd on bottom edge of slide I have more leverage this way. The final part is so important. Why do we want to enforce a German franco bowhold or a Russian bowhold? Transiting between both when it works best is quite logical

OMG! This is I am currently facing with. You are indeed totally life saviour. I almost want to give up on violin thinking that I dont have talent or skills. Yup, true indeed for the last tip. I thought I need to keep on the same grip position when nearing the tip during bowing. So, I been struggling to practice straight and long bow on open strings. Can you please show video solely on bowing and grip positions for open strings practice? I guess the way my wrist turning, bow grip holds and everything for open strings bowing is messed up. 😅 Thank you.

Hi Joy! Thank you for your video! I was going to ask you if it was normal that my pinky finger would hurt after a while of playing. Like it was over pressing or over supporting the entire bow. Then after shifting the support weight from there to the middle and 4th finger, the thumb would ache after a while. Turns out, as you said, weight shifting from index to other fingers was the cause. Thanks for your video! I’ll work on this more… I’m excited to see how it’ll improve. Please keep making more videos!

I started playing 2 weeks ago, so far just self teaching as my schedule doesn't work with the violin teacher in town. Sometimes I practice full bow strokes on open strings and struggle with going to the end of the tip even with the slight tilting you described. Maybe my arms are short, so I started to move the violin away as well. I noticed you are doing this too, but it maybe was only because you wanted us to see in the camera how your bow hold changes. Can You please let me know if this is correct to slightly move violin away to the left as I am bowing at the very tip of the bow? Thanks in advance! 🙂 ❤🎻
@JoyLeeViolin3 жыл бұрын
Dear Polery, welcome to the violin world! One needs to move the body and violin in a flexible way as the bow is also constantly moving. So moving the violin a bit to your left when playing near the tip of the bow is a good move. Happy violin playing!
