I’d really like to hear what your experience with the Wildland firefighter hiring timeline looks like. Because it’s seasonal and there’s a lot of returners, it seems like there’s a secret club to getting hired at “the right time”.

I think being passionate about wildland firefighting will help you show others that you’re Capable, willing to learn, navigate and gain skills. I knew once I did my first season that it was the career I wanted to pursue.

are you a fulltime like year round wildland firefighter? or do you just work in the fire season and then have another job in the off season?

Although it's been years since I was on the line, I still carry medical gloves and a trauma dressing. Recently I saw someone fall and strike his head on the sidewalk in front of me. I was able to control the bleeding and keep him stable until first responders arrived (one of them was my old student firefighter).
