I've been composting in Lahore, Pakistan. I bury my scraps and they're mostly composted in three weeks. Must be the atmosphere. Its kinda hot here. I grew up in Pakistan. This kind of attitude of learning, teaching, passion and honesty is what made me really like western people when I was a kid. These people have so much to offer. They have so much value and I'm humbled by them.

This year I got a deal where I can load my truck up with the stall rakings of a goat farm. I load up the trucks with my tractor and haul them home where I either compost them or use them as mulch. This stuff is made of thin pine chips, straw and lots of goat manure. No weeds and no known pathogens. But there was a bonus. For years they just dumped this into a ravine adjacent to the property. Here I found a massive MASSIVE heap of very well composted material. I have used truckloads of it in my gardens and the results already are spectacular.

That's how i do compost since years. It's a bit slow ( 6-12 month for 80% decomposed, i move the 20% left to the next box), but it work great for the low amount of work. All i do is sometime when i got a leftover of water i drop in it, so it's not too dry, and i mix it a bit when i add a big amount to it.

Great stuff... I used a construction demo bag from a big box store (8yd -$39)...put "clean" material (leaves, grass) water from time to time, put in nutrients (horse cubes -alfalfa make great add-in) , kitchen veggie eggs stuff, mix then put in 5 gallon buckets or similar(as many as you can spare) , push materials down tightly and fill to top then leave for 24 hours at least then remix with larger mulch Interesting as you fill the inside of the bag you can also have double the effect by putting it under the bag

Great video! I agree 100%, if you can compost at home, it’s much better than sending it away. There’s only a few things we put in our local bin service these days because I don’t want it in our compost and it’s primarily things with thorns and kitchen waste but I should change that to separate the kitchen scraps so I send less away.
@philroberts72382 жыл бұрын
Kitchen waste, as you realise, does make great compost - especially when mixed with garden waste. As for thorny things, put them at the bottom of a very slow compost pile - leave it long enough and the thorns will have broken down along with all the rest of it.

Two years ago we started dropping any soft garden scraps like leaves, grass clippings, veggie scraps etc. Never did anything else to it . Thank you Mark !!! We love all your videos!!! :) Can't wait to read the book. I already have a few old, good composting books, but I loke to have it said in a new, fresh way. Here in the US amazon the book is only available on kindle...waiting for the real book...After tilling our beds a bit ( we must due to tree rootlets coming into our growing soil out in the country), and a couple of weeks after planting our tomatoes, we saw country grass springing up everywhere ! I was shocked and stressed out. We should have mulched immediately !!! Luckily, i made ready leaves and grass last fall, but due to hardly any rain here in Kansas, none of it decomposed. We grabbed lots of it and put it around all the veggies very thick along with some freshly cut grass. It will get watered a lot and it will decompose quickly and hopefully keep the weeds down. We'll keep piling on fresh layers of last autumn's leaves mixed with freshly cut grass.

Mark, you are the only youtuber I know that could probably answer this question. I have a mostly pine and some hardwood 'forest' that I am cutting down. Will this clay soil be awful for fruit trees? Should I make hills of dirt for the trees to be planted in?

Brilliant. Much can be learned from straightforward question and answer editing. Cheers

i have an orchard owner told me he dig very big hole in the ground, then dump cut branches, leaves, grass etc and then burn it when it's dried. he also throw in organic matters in the hole. it acts like a dumpster in the orchard but only for organics materials. the surrounding plant benefits from it and grow very lush.
