The issue to be careful about with the "upholding investment values" and for example not buying in Walmart, is that it's not just "I prefer to pay a little more and buy at Joe's retail's", because the difference is usually much more than just "a little", often a considerable percentage of the total price. It's also much easier to say it for a millionaire, paying 3 dollars more for some product and upholding a belief in small convenience stores is then not a problem whatsoever, but for ordinary people, if they started to do it this way, their monthly expenses would often skyrocket.

Speaking of PG&E and their mote, and the announcement by the governor today. It seems to me like they are on sale, do you have any specific thoughts? Given how vital their service is I feel like either the government is gonna have to bail them out or someones is gonna have to buy them out. I'm trying to decide whether or not to "load up the truck".

So Phil you mentioned railroads- what do you think about CSX? I've owned it for a bout 1.5 years and it's done nothing except chop out sideways twixt 65 and 77. Should I sell it? Will they ever be as strong as Union Pacific? I never thought to ask or research how much track they own? It's hard to find out their routes.
@ViburaBlanca4 жыл бұрын
Chuck martin I used to work for UP, All of the railroads are doing a PSR system. Laying off employees (like me) cutting corners, bigger trains. However all that saving is boosting profits for short term gain. UP is on a tear right now, it would be great to invest in them right now, just be cautious, because they are unethical, and will runaway with your investment if shit hits the fan.

Thank you phil for this amazing video which was easily understandable! In my opinion, AMD is threathening Intel's moat. AMD is developing the chip industry with its new techonology. Their processor's are topping Intel's in overall performance. I think Intel's influence is heavy on the market still (brand moat mostly), but I think AMD is soon ready to break that and take the top spot on the chip industry! I will be following AMD's stock price with great interest and try to buy it on sale. And once again, thank you Phil for this video!

Adrian Rymann The first iPhone was a useless paperweight whereas the one you use today is probably the single most useful thing you own. The $300 one was the ripoff, not the $1,000 one of today that does everything but butter your breakfast toast.

Boeing has triple digit ROE and ROIC and grows retained earnings at 11% and operates in a duopoly - sure looks like a strong moat. MSFT has gross margins over 60% and operating margins over 40% with retained earnings growing 14% - sure looks like a strong moat. I think your understanding of moats is a little off.
