Kris... I've been using different versions of Premiere Elements for around 12 years. I never had a clue how to do PIP. I now at least have a baseline to work from. Thank you VERY much for this. Looking forward to watching more of your work.

I have watched100's of KZbin videos, mostly concerning Photoshop Elements and Premier Elements. While Premier Elements (PRE) is considered a consumer level program, it still has an amazing number of controls, choices, and effects. This is an excellent video for newbies, or for those hoping to expand their knowledge. Speaking as a supervisor of instruction (retired), and having taught K - 12 teachers how to use PRE, you do an excellent job of providing the central focus of the content, while including very necessary little details. These little details can cause frustrating detours for users when trying to "fill in the gaps" that presenters didn't include. Here's some examples of those little details. (And if any of your "experts" out there scoff that these, I'm pretty sure you've never taught folks how to use such a program, or you aren't very effective teachers.) 0:49 - the top down hierarchy that PSE follows; 2:16 - how to open the key frame controls; 3:55 - staggering windows so that they don't start simultaneously; 3:35 - clicking in Motion window, seeing and using the "dot" that appears in the corresponding video, and using that "dot" (instead of trying to do everything in the key frame control window). There are a number of other times you provide such asides this video. Your voice is pleasant, and your electronic "demonstration table" is ready to go. (I've watched MANY KZbin videos and wondered why so little preparation was made before turning on the camera.) Kris, you are a good teacher!

Holy mother of Jesus! I have been looking for help like this for sooooo long! Only I farted because I farted about with the buttons and read some of the effect types that i had an idea of what i was looking for i.e. picture swipes but according to you these swipes (moving images) i needed were actually called PIPS. Thanks you so much for this. Maybe change your video tags for more uneducated search terms. They could get you more views :)

Thanks for posting. Any advise on computer build for running premiere elements? My current machine's performance is unusable. Thanks for any advice.
@KrisKasprzak
@KrisKasprzak 7 жыл бұрын
I build my own machines so I have no particular model to point you to. I would recommend the fastest processor you can afford (I run an intel i7 and it's very good). I've got 16 GB ram, and never seem to run out. I've tried creating RAM drives and while very fast i've not taken the leap in making it permanent--recommend you get and SSD drive. My graphics card is very old (like 10 years but runs fine).

Hi, Kris: Is there a way to “hold” a dissolve transition in place so that 2 images continuously play over one another...a double exposure, if you will. Thanks. Stay safe
@KrisKasprzak
@KrisKasprzak 4 жыл бұрын
sure, between your video segments, say you want a 2 second transition but using the last frame of the first video and the first frame of the second video. Basically freeze the last frame and the first frame and use the frozen images as the transition. Here's how 1. move the cursor to the last frame in the first video, use page up/down and L/R arrow keys to move cursor to last frame 2. Use Tools | Freeze Frame and insert into the video--this action will create an image and put it where your cursor is on the timeline 3. move your timeline cursor to the first frame of the second video--again use page up page down and L/R arrows keys to get the exact first frame 4. repeat step 2 5. now you have 2 videos separated by 2 images lst frame of first vid and first frame of second vid 6. move image 2 above image on --say on Video 2 line 7. move video 2 to left (or right click in the empty space and delete and close gap 8. expand the video 2 time line (little down arrow on the far left near where it says Video2--all the way to the left 9. you should see a yellow bar across the image in the video 2 bar--that bar controls visibility--all the way up, 0% transparency, all the way down, 100% transparency. 10 adjust the bar to your liking. or... rightly click and select Fade | Video on or Video out. 11. for the ultimate control move your cursor to somewhere on the image, click the little dot < O > just below video 2, move your cursor to another location and click the dot again. repeat a few more times. These little dots on the yellow bar are now drag handles so you can fade in/out with more control I hope this is what 15 min of typing is what you are looking for :)

Hi. can I just put a fix image over my video? I do guitar tutorials so I want to show a picture, in a corner of the screen, of the guitar chord that I am playing whiile actally playing it. I have no program to create the picture so I will need to copy paste a pre existing image of the chord from google. Can I do that with this program or with the 14 version? thanks !
@KrisKasprzak

+El Salón de Guitarra Sure. just add your picture to the timeline, the select the picture from the time line and edit the size and location, as if it were a video. Make sure your picture is re sized to the size of the video.

Kris.. Is there a way to cross-fade audio only...on the timeline. It appears it won't let that happen. Thanks.
@KrisKasprzak
@KrisKasprzak 7 жыл бұрын
yes. if your audio is part of the video, you will need to un-link audio from one of the tracks. Then drag that audio track to say the narration track, then drag the end of the un-linked audio over the other audio (do the same for the other video if you want more of a cross fade effect). Then show the volume control on the audio (yellow bar) and insert keypoints to allow audio volume level control. Make sense?

I'm very very new to editing videos. For the very first part of the video, you are using three different videos, correct? These aren't zoomed-in parts of the same video, right?
@KrisKasprzak
@KrisKasprzak 6 жыл бұрын
Yes there are 3 different videos. however if all you footage was in the same video, you could still get the same result. For example, if the first 2 min segment was a car in driveway, second 2 min segment was say driving, and say 3rd segment was washing the car, you would split the clip at each section then drag the desired clip to the track and location (like have car washing PIP over the car driving).

Kris, why is it that when I do a quad split screen do the 4 individual videos have a marked drop off in resolution compared to the individual videos when viewed in linear processing in the video eg (kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJfNi4yil96bm6s ) ?

Good question, i saw your vid and understand the issue, let me mess with mine a bit. Scalling a video up or down will alter quality, but not as bad as what you are experiencing. When you final render are you cranking the bit rate up? I generally do (meaning my final videos are several gigabytes but quality is high).
