I feel like the saddest thing was that not even one of the couples got the happy ending they deserved Edit: Even though they were all very sad endings, I don't think I would have it any other way. These deaths are what make this drama so memorable for me. The lesson they teach that not every the thing in life that starts happy will necessarily end happy. Sadness is a part of life which makes the happiness so exquisite.

Wang So and Hae Soo (died) Wang Eun and Seon Dook(died first) Baek Ah and Won Hee(died) Wang Wook and Myung Hee(died first) Wang Won and Chae Ryung(died) All girls risk their lives to save their man. Chae Ryung follow all things Wang Won says. Seon Dook protect her first love and became a shield so Wang Eun will be safe. Won Hee jump for the reunification of three states, also do it for Baek Ah to be safe. Myung Hee loved Wang Wook with all her heart, even though she think those love will never return to her. Hae Soo support her man to become a king although she knew the consequences. This drama has a moral lesson, no discrimination, there's no gender in saving your loved ones.

If I were to rate the saddest couple ending: 1. Emperor and Lady Oh I mean, I want to see their past. And I imagine it like on the historical comics but when the emperor and the person he loves didn't end up together. That type of story maybe. 2. Wang Eun and Soondeok Maybe they can be the same ranking as the emperor's. Cause we all know that he just started to love her and they died protecting each other. 3. Wang So and Haesoo Ok, let's give it up to our main couple. I think the painful part is because Haesoo didn't even see and tell Wang So they have a daughter until her last breath. And also the way their love story progress, it's very unique. But maybe they can have a chance to see each other again, If there will be a SECOND SEASON. 4. Wang wook and Lady Hae I literally cried at the time when Lady Hae died. You can see at the last episode, when an image of Lady Hae flashed at Wook's mind before he died, you will know that he loved her all this time. 5. Baek ah and Woohee I don't know. I also cried when she died. But I placed this last because I think that other 4 are sadder. BTW THIS IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE KDRAMA. BUT ALSO THE SADDEST

When everything wen't downhill, haesoo also did. She slowly turned quiet, she was the most joyful and funniest girl in the beginning but turned out to be the most quiet and sad girl in the end. I remember when I've watch this first time (the video), it remind me of my late sister.
