Well it proved you wrong, brake, engine a chassis's were a great package, he was being gentle, too many exotics , pristinely turned out ones at that sharing the track to chuk it around full Wellington old chap

@David Olsson again, the first generation Tbird, the two seaters, were a direct competitor to the Corvette. It was the later 2+2s that were more luxury than performance.

@@ScottKenny1978 "The first generation tbird was a direct competitor to the Corvette." Sales competitor only. The only one I ever saw compete had a rear axle separate from the differential. The car came around a corner with one wheel sticking two feet out beyond the body.

@@geoh7777 was also a performance competitor. Had the 390 big block when Corvettes only had the 327. You pop the hood on a 1950s Ford police car and the valve covers would say "Thunderbird", because the Tbird had the most powerful engine in the Ford family. An axle separating is not indicative of a general performance level, I have seen axles separate from any number of cars. Most recently a Jeep Wrangler.

Jowet was fantastic...but why not? A very clever little car. All alloy flat 4, light body. My mate had one. When I was watching saloons in the 50's I seem to remember Simca Aronde being popular racers. I was at Goodwood on Saturday. Fabulous as ever!

@@therealjamesmartin A friend had one In about 1964. He pulled the heads off and replaced the rings or a valve....long time ago. Anyway he could not find any torque settings so he used Beetle ones and the block cracked. Ah well....

I think in vintage racing you could race production cars with whatever engine and trans was available from the factory at the time. So a 59 thunderbird could have a 430 lincoln engine as it was optional. So he is racing a 59 tbird 430 v8 against puny 4 and 6 cylinder cars. Same with a galaxy you could run a 427 or 428 v8 against smaller cars with smaller engines.

I was also intrigued by the MG Y type saloon. Was that the original 1250 engine? Not to mention the early lights in the grille morris minor. That model was side valve was it not....that fast?

they should start a new class at all these older race events called "the brute force" class where in all the big bodied big cube cars joust around the track. It would be nice to see all the Birds, Galaxies, Studebaker Hawks, Impalas, etc racing against each other as opposed to the David and Goliath look of most all of these races. No finesse, just weight and raw power racing, although, most of the drivers of these big rigs are extremely talented and do control that mass and horsepower exceptionally well.

For some reason I can't take these races seriously it seems like the American cars are there for the announcers amusement the 59 long white T--------bird by Brittish standards, should indeed be shorter and have a proper name and where are the Ferraris?

Nobody races a 1950s or 60s Ferrari anymore. Last time they were raced was probably 1970. Crud, people barely even run the things anymore...
