Hey quick question: It is a code violation if the attic ladder is facing the wrong way or opposite way. Meaning once you climb up the ladder you have to make a 180 degree turn to service the furnace. VS have it the “correct” way so once you climb up the ladder the system is immediately within view. I have an issue with this due to lack of clearance for the actual ladder feet so it had to be installed “backwards “

Yes, you must have a platform at the top of a stairway or set of stairs.
