It would be nice for someone who invent these kind of tools, knows how to use these tools. The watermelon slicer is first helt upside down, so that the "cutting" part slices first. This way, the tool movement through the melon can be done. When sliced, you can flip it back to pick out the sliced watermelon. Here is a demonstration: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4HMiH2Xac2VrbM

Compare the best pumpkin saw to a kitchen knife and a electric jigsaw or drill. Compare how effective a large tablespoon is vs a pumpkin scoop. Then compare the better choice to one of the elongated metal beaters that attach to a electric drill to clean innards out of the pumpkin shell. This would help many people with dexterity issues enjoy and be able to participate in pumpkin carving fun with children. This would be one of the few times Dan could compare Halloween gadgets vs traditional kitchen utensils vs power tools. Nothing fancy, just a simple Jack-o-lantern face using a small to medium sized pumpkin. Please?

@@duckhead014 It was designed to grip vegetables only at the far ends. So the potato would have to be large enough to reach both ends of the device.

Did he test the hot dog holder with a cooked or uncooked dog? I'd think a cooked dog would be softer and easier to cut, that looked uncooked/cold.
@HyperIonMake3 жыл бұрын
A grilled hot dog would be harder to cut since all you're doing is drying out the surface. Hot dogs come cooked.
@sandyfreeland31373 жыл бұрын
If I'm not mistaken, the hot dog cutter is not intended to cut all the way through. After pressing it into the hot dog, it should be removed in a reverse manner. When the hot dog is cooked, the body curls up beautifully. Of course you can do the same with a kitchen knife. There are many other types of creative cutting you can do to hot dogs that expand when cooked, and greatly delight children!

I have it. I cooked the hot dog, it releases the grease and hard to get the pieces out. A tiny fork would help when eating it due to tiny pieces. More annoying than just eating a dog with a bun.

My boyfriend introduced me to this channel and I stumbled upon these videos. I always wondered about some of these things and if they really work. And as someone who has problems with their wrist, I do appreciate he takes into account the people that have similar issues. Also, I was initially not sold on the Moving Blade Mandolin until I saw the feeding chute. Now we wanna find one, it seems ridiculously efficient.

Hasselback potatoes got it's name from restaurant Hasselbacken (Hazel hill) in Stockholm, Sweden. You normally use smaller potatoes than shown here. Drenched in butter and topped with bread crumble, they are baked in the oven until crispy brown. The point of slicing the potato is not to stuff it, but to make the butter melt down into the potato. Also, when it baked, those slices will separate and create more surface area to be crisped. Same reason you make fries rather than frying whole potatoes. My old cookbook suggest placing the potato in a wooden spoon while slicing, and that's the way I always did it. Best potatoes you'll ever eat!

7:55 I would say to design in a fold out crank handle on this part instead of making it square or triangular. Or better yet, make it triangular WITH the fold out hand crank. That will give the best of both worlds. I say a fold out crank because it keeps it compact for storage and than it is not some separate piece to get lost over time. An example would be on some of the very long measuring tapes and the nicer chalk lines.

I love when he finds something that is really good and works properly. I'd seriously consider buying one of those mandolins! I can always superglue extra material onto or 3d print new dials for the back, and you could make the chute squeeze the veggie on both sides with some small round guide-rails on the sides to attempt to keep orientation so that you can set the angle however you want (though that sounds convoluted and awful now that I've typed it out....maybe there's a reason he's the expert XD)

Don't know if they changed the design, but the hot dog slicer worked fine for cutting all the way through. The issues with it are that a lot of hot dogs are too large to fit and it's difficult to clean
@funstuff20062 жыл бұрын
It didn't cut through the casing, which is why he had to tear the pieces out. It's like trying to guillotine a hotdog with a plastic butter knife, it just squishes. Being intended for small children the designers obviously didn't want anything in there that would actually cut. Putting a hinge on it doesn't seem like a good redesign, because they'll only use an all-plastic hinge, or the feeblest of riveted hinges. Just manufactured garbage - can't do what it's supposed to do while still being safe for the people you expect to use it.

I agree 3rd gadget... ok, yup. 4th: redesign the watermelon ;P 5th... yah, chopsticks + knife = better option You were generous with the 1 ratings.
