Thanks for a wonderful and informative video. My hens are almost one year old so I’m kind of a newbie to chickens. I never knew you could love a chicken so much. They all have their own personalities. I feed all the same food to my girls as you do except for one thing - sardines! When it is really cold , they get a can of sardines in the morning with their mash and they absolutely love it. I learned about that from watching another YT channel that I do not remember the name of. Thanks again!

Thanks for tuning in! They really are like dogs, it’s funny how they all have a silly personality and see what they are thinking about, usually treats or being mischievous lol! Yes it’s amazing how much they can eat they really are garbage disposals, just no spoiled, fried, sugary, salty, poisonous (google full lists of poisonous plants or food for chickens to be sure) Basically with table scraps if it’s unhealthy for us it’s probably not good for them either 😊 Chickens do love meat and fish, they will even eat poultry. We just don’t feed sardines because we don’t eat them ourselves so their not on our shopping list and already give them grubs and crickets for their insect protein treats. Also heard an old wives tale that eggs could possibly taste fishy, kind of like they say garlic and onion can affect taste of eggs. Not sure if there’s any truth to that but we do sell our eggs! Lol safe than sorry I guess for our customers. Maybe we’ll try it someday though thanks 😊

Mine love cherries, squash especially spaghetti cause they can pick out pieces better, chard, lettuce, spinach, watermelon, meal worms, sunflowerseeds, cucumbers. Haven't tried blueberries yet. They are all on Grower feed right now, which I soak so the seed swells to double in size as my pullets are 9 weeks old. I haven't given them scratch because they are on the grower feed which is seed. My chickens look good and happy.

Hi, Ricardo and Kelly, Is there a way to make roosters friendly with each other and avoid each other and never fight, I have lots of chickens and a big land and the roosters always look for each other and they start fighting , I want to keep them all but I failed to make these roosters ignore each other, is there a solution from your side? Or give them some drugs and alcohol to make them forget each other lol xD.
@BockBockBouquet2 жыл бұрын
It can be done but it’s not easy. The best and easiest way to add new roosters is as a baby chick and when they are still a 3 month old small cockerel start the introduction as you would other pullets and let them grow up with the dominant rooster. Then it would be clear whos in charge and they would submit and the other rooster would have seen no threat from a baby. BUT it can still be done! All rooster personalities are different and hormone levels, depending how bad your rooster wants to be in charge. I would let him spend at least 2 weeks, possibly a month inbetween a fence to the other rooster. They will acclimate to each other through the fence for less fighting, use smaller fencing like hardware cloth if they bloody each other through a big gapped fence. Once they stop fighting through the fence and the old roo seems used to the new Roos presence then you can release. There may still be some fighting but unfortunately it must happen as a natural part of their pecking order, they have to settle who in charge and it’s a natural part of their life. Just watch (it will be hard to see) and let them fight until it’s figured out. Hopefully one backs down and they have it decided. Only intervene if it looks really bad like one may get hurt. It one gets bloodied he’ll need to be separated again until healed as the like to continue to pick if they see blood. Hope this information helps, it is much harder to introduce older rooster, babies make it much easier, but it can still be done

@@BockBockBouquet Thanks for this useful information, I divided spaces for each of them because they are brothers and the same age one years old and prevented them to see each other, dominant rooster 4 years old he is their father all, they are afraid of him, but they target each other now each one of them with his chickens this is the perfect solution because they want to kill each other and I'm tired of treating their wounds every day and seeing them fight the worst thing about raising chickens is the fight between roosters

I tried to give my chickens a corn mix as a treat in the afternoon but one always gets really runny stools after, tried also sunflower seeds, the same thing. Any advice as to why this happens, when she eats her daily food she is okay, just seems to be treats
@BockBockBouquet2 жыл бұрын
That’s strange, runny stool is usually just from too much water consumption. Corn is junk food to them you could just omit it entirely it’s not good for them anyways. Maybe that one chicken has a sensitivity, just like all people are different and different intolerances and allergies

My chickies are almost 13 weeks old so they’re still eating chick starter. What kind of feed do you give your hens once they start laying, and where do you get your scratch? I’ve also been giving them a little bit of the Grub Terra and your right, they go nuts for it!
@BockBockBouquet2 жыл бұрын
Hello depending on what brand you use you switch from chick starter to grower feed at 8 weeks of age. Some brands the chick starter is also a grower, so you never switch and feed the same feed until age of laying eggs. We recommend switching from starter/grower to layer feed once they lay their first egg. Layer feed has too much calcium for pullets not laying and the excess calcium can damage their kidneys. Also once laying keep a dish of oyster shell free choice on the side somewhere and they will pick at it as they need. They self regulate how much calcium they need to make strong eggshells. Oyster shell is a slow release calcium supplement where as layer feed is a quick release calcium. We purchase scratch from our local feed store we live the brand scratch and peck feeds. We have them linked in our description you can also order online
@alisablack74772 жыл бұрын
