Hi, I love your videos. I've got the following question which is better for a-cut assembly - using in out and then inserting (looks like the standard method). Final Cut Pro X editors use this method - or putting everything on the timeline and trimming ( gives more precision and eliminates the need to insert into the timeline every single time). Editors like Taran from Linus Tech Tips use this
@JayLippman4 жыл бұрын
Either is good, but I like using in and out points for most of my videos.
@AhmedThahir20024 жыл бұрын

Hi Jay, I've got a question. May be a little off topic but I've been experiencing a weird issue with DaVinci. I have been editing a video that includes some drumming and the exported clip is off sync no matter what I do. It is only visible in the drumming parts, I've never noticed it in any other clips so it must just be a very slight shift. I have tried different settings, frame rates etc. but the problem persists. Do you know why that might be?
@JayLippman5 жыл бұрын
At first the only thing I could think of was that you shot this in a variable frame rate (like on a phone or something), but the fact that it's only the drums kind of takes that away. Drums are weird with the way sound carries. That might translate into how they hit the microphone as well. That's just a guess though. I honestly have no idea for sure. But it definitely doesn't sound like a Resolve issue, since everything else is synced up fine.
@tara-mayemoves19775 жыл бұрын
@@JayLippman Thank you for replying:) I think you might be right about the variable frame rate. I did record it on my phone in 24fps, but when looking at the properties of the file it's 23.25. The original looks fine though. Actually, everything looks fine even on the timeline (project settings - 24 FPS). The problem must be occuring during the exporting process... Have you never encountered such an issue? I need to come up with some workaround as I edit a lot of music & dance videos, and this is messing everything up for me:(

I have a post on Blackmagic Forums "DaVinci Resolve 16.1.1 on Windows 10 No Audio Inputs" but it hasn't been answered and I have exhausted all of the settings aI can think of. Great tips, thanks. Another way to do Output Blanking if you want settings that aren't in the Output Blanking menu is on the Color tab, Output Sizing, in the Blanking section adjust the Top and Bottom values to create a custom blanking setting. Of course it needs a bit of maths to figure out the values but pretty straightforward then you can set any custom values you want for blanking.

Quick question on Selection Follows Playhead: I really like the feature - makes it behave like Premiere Pro does - but it always selects the topmost video track that the playhead is over. So I find that if I've stacked a bunch of clips, and I'm working on the clips on, say, the Video 2 track, DR always selects the clip on, say, the Video 5 track. So I start editing in the inspector, and have to undo, redo on Video 1 track, etc. Is there a way to have it "follow" the playhead but stay on the same video track? Great tips, man!
@JayLippman4 жыл бұрын
I wish I had an answer for this, but all I have is a guess. You might want to try deactivating the track auto selector (the box with two opposite facing arrows on the left side of the track) on the video tracks you're not working on. That might do it. Maybe. Please let me know lol.

Hey Jay, great videos! I am also making the switch to Resolve from Media Composer since Avid's customer service has gone so far downhill the last couple years. Anyways, I'm importing video (MP4 - from camera(s)) and audio (WAV - from Pro Tools), and they end up as different lengths?? I.E. once I line them up they fall out of sync because one clip is actually longer or shorter than the other (video is longer / audio is shorter). Is this a common issue? Hopefully with a common solution?? Thanks!! And keep putting these tutorials out, they're super helpful!!

Hi everyone. I am having great difficulty installing Davinci Resolve, free version on my computer. I already had Davinci Resolve 16 installed so just tried to install version 17 over it when prompted to update. I am using Windows 10 home edition OS and this is run on a ASUS G752VS lap top. My Laptop spec is: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6820HK CPU @ 2.70GHz 2.70 GHz, 32.0 GB RAM, 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor, 512 SSD, 1TB HDD, 8 GB GRAPHICS CARD, Windows 10 Home EDITION, Version 20H2, OS Build 19042.870. Version 17 fails to install. I have plenty of disk space and am trying to install it on the main SSD drive not the HHD drive. I even tried removing all of the Davinci resolve programme files and checked my computer for viruses etc. uninstalled and reinstalled, Visual C++ 2015-2019 from Microsoft and still can't install. See photos as an example the problem I have. I have checked and updated all drivers on my computer. I have reached out to Blackmagic customer service and they said that they only give information and support for the paid studio version. I was also told to visit the Blackmagic forum, which I have done and everyone has the same problem with no solution. It has been 8 days now that I have had no editor and am stuck. Today I tried a computer system restore and it still will not install. Is anyone having the same problem? Any tips resolving this issue?

Enjoy your videos very much. It is one thing to watch you do somethings like getting transitions set like you want on KZbin then when I come to do them they either will not come in or if I try to put them across a splice and they are only at the end of the first slice. But that is the least of the issue. My last video I put up is @sphcofc on KZbin it is rough. You wouldn’t believe I used to Video Edit for a living. Now I realize that was on a Grass Valley switcher with a director, two camera men, a couple of tape men, a gaff and a producer. Anyway here is an idea of how I am trying to produce these videos. Same every week every time no going to the 6 flags or anything like that. Go into OBS-studio set up a Scene-Collection calling it by the name of the latest sermon going to record. Set up scenes one of just me on the Camera with a source of my iPhone, I know need the latest and greatest camera, its called funds. Then another scene my image Slide show and the iPhone. I did figure out if the camera is not in there I will not get audio. Now I am also recording audio by way of a Nady Wireless lavalier mic. Which is the audio I want to use. Recoring onto a Sony H5 Zoom. I use for my audio on my website. Once that is set I take to my office, no internet there so have to bring everything back for post. Record, I do some picture in picture but for the most part only want the charts on the video. Now I save them out as mp4, assuming that is the format I want for Davinci Resolve (DR16). In post The three recordings I have done at the office, The teaser for the beginning. The sermon to first break, have a infomercial in the can, then final section. Drop those in. I drop the begging teaser onto the timeline. I lock the video V! so I can delete the audio that is with the Video. Sync audio video cut off the front end part i don’t need cmd B and then Shift \ delete. that is after unlocking V1, had to do that in order to sync audio/video. Everything is good to that point. Now here comes the rub. I want to append the sermon to first break part. I then try to add the audio that I am going to use trying to get it to Audio track one appended to the audio track from the beginning footage and no, no it isn’t going. So I render what I have name it something I can pull into another project. I had to do it that way three times to get the completed video of 30 minutes finished. Now I want to add a stinger file where I say now here’s the sermon. Got it in added my .movs I made in Keynote no problem. Go to put in transitions no, no they are not going. Now having said all of that what do I need to do different? Can you give me an idea for a workflow that will be quick but quality. Since it will be basically the same each video. I do have better lighting coming. When I get the funds I am thinking of a Canon M50 or a Sony AX53. I am using the front camera on the iPhone but can’t tell when I am looking into the camera on the bloody thing and I appear to be afraid to look at the camera. It doesn’t bother me to look at a camera. I did it for 5 years doing weather in Memphis, TN on week-ends. I just wish I had the budget we had back then. As our engineering department used to say throw enough money at it we can make anything work. I have been consuming KZbin videos like crazy almost as good as going to a hands on Grass Valley Switcher class. - sphcofc@gmail.com Mike Hughes, Minister Springhill church of Christ.
