Someone still does scifi helmets in Maya! Good to see.

Absolutely superb work. I study to be a character artist and all around 3d artist for cinematics and VFX. Your work is very inspirational and nice to see your workflow as I just started Zbrush. Makes life a lot easier. Keep up the good work!

I am amazed. This is incredible! The work is gorgeous, the process is beautiful! I only have one question: What happened between the retopo and the texturing? Did you baked the high poly normals onto the low poly? How? Which software?
@aldovicente47057 жыл бұрын
Hi Bence! Thank you so much for the kind words! Yup, that's right! Right after the retopo segment, I used Xnormal to bake the high-poly normals, occlusion, curvature, and cavity detail from the zbrush models onto the low-poly retopo model, and then used those maps as my input maps for texturing in DDO. I also used a large Cage model in Xnormal to help Xnormal project around corners and stuff. I actually should've recorded that whole segment, I'll be sure to include it on the next one! Thanks for checking it out, Bence!

again good work , and you make it look so easy , but its not , one question,, why wasting time in retopo process and u have the base mesh from maya at first ?? ,thats all . i wish to see more work from u :) cheers
@aldovicente47057 жыл бұрын
He rf3t, thanks for checking it out! And great question! I was aiming for a tri limit of 6k, so before I started the retopo process, I considered using the base mesh I had already built, but eventually I decided against it because the original mesh had a lot of overlapping parts and edge-dense areas (total over 100k) that were important for fine detail, but weren't critical to the silhouette, and wouldn't fit within my 6k tri limit. So, I felt like it would ultimately be faster and cleaner to just retopo a low-poly mesh from scratch, than trying to manually reduce a 100k+ multi-piece model down to a 6k single-piece. Great suggestion though, I definitely would have saved a bunch of time if I had kept the 6k limit in mind as I was modeling the base mesh. I could have kept a parallel version that would be easier to reduce, and then I might have been able to skip the retopo phase all together! I'll try it out next time, for sure! Big thanks again for checking it out!!

Wow, this is incredible, I can imagine this being put into some sci-fi game! If only a person could have skills to model, texture and animate this for some mindblowing results. Anyways, great work. P.S Any advice where to start in sculpting and modeling? After drawing many things I began to think that this is essentialy an upgrade to that, a picture, but in 3D.
@BungieStudios7 жыл бұрын
Arseny Zhivotov It's already modeled and textured. Parenting it to a character and animating it is not hard either. Just time consuming. There's a bunch of this stuff on TurboSquid if you're itching to try.

@aldovicente47057 жыл бұрын
Hey AwesomeBlackDude! Originally I had actually cut it to a few tracks from the Star Craft OST, but then I got worried it might get flagged or taken down since obviously I don't own the music. So then I just posted it without audio. I'm going to try and get some music for the next video though! Or maybe I'll do some commentary. Thanks for checking it out, man!

great tutorial :D whats the difference between 3ds max and maya? i am new to modeling
@IsvRada7 жыл бұрын
Basically tools and get used to work with those. If you already know the 3d concepts you can learn a new software in a few weeks. IMO maya is more powerful tool, and for animation the first choice nowadays. For modeling, my favourite is MODO.

hard surface modelling i use maya and for creature i use zbrush then retopo that dumb creature in maya is that gud or i should only use maya i am confused
@matzan4817 жыл бұрын
Why modeling in Maya instead of Zbrush the whole way ? (The same regarding retopology)
@IsvRada7 жыл бұрын
Because Zbrush shines in organic stuff, for hard-surface modelling lot of artists prefer to work with Maya/MODO/Max, etc. The workflow he is using is very common in the industry. For the same process I also use like 4-5 different softwares :)

quixel or substance painter ?
@aldovicente47057 жыл бұрын
Hey! I used Quixel Suite DDO 2 for this project. I personally do like using that more in my own work, but Substance Painter is also a seriously great tool!
@V-95K4 жыл бұрын
What plug in are you using for retopology at 12:00 ???
@ntn8143 жыл бұрын
It is maya's built in tool in Modelling toolkit, Quad draw.
@fabian32247 жыл бұрын
I think this is really good, but Substance Painter has become more of the industry standard in games. So if thats the industry you want, than you need to show painter. Also, show your piece in an engine, or at least Marmoset Toolbag.
