You've most likely have gotten cut by something at some point, normally it isn't too bad if you live in an environment that is normally clean. Instead- imagine shoving dirt and feces into that open wound. There is a very high chance of infection from it and, if not treated, you could lose wherever the cut was made- such as your hand or foot.

Spikeful shits!
@voteZDLR5 жыл бұрын
That's devious, not only are the tips of some of the spikes barbed to prevent a soldier from easily pulling it out (as opposed to how easily it went in) but conversely some of the spikes lower down were faced more downward than upward so upon trying to remove their leg they just got another spike even deeper. That on top of the fact many of these traps had poisoned tips (and some even with human excrement slathered on them as well) for maximum damage and even infections being caused.

I know of IED's all too well with my 2 tours in Iraq. I have gone through so many that I have not been able to attend a firework display since I have been back. About halfway through my first tour in '03 we started hearing rumors of bombs and such but it was treated like more of a myth. Then 3 years later I went back again this time they were not a myth. In my first 6 months of the second tour I already gone through at least 30. Most were quite small and just rocked our trucks a bit, but every so often a big one would go off just narrowly being directly hit only receiving minor cuts and bruises (thanks for the armor). I know there will be a number of you to crack jokes or say other inappropriate things, but it doesn't matter. I hope none of you ever have to live through something like that for It will scar you for the rest of your life and you will never be the same.

When I was in Ho Chi Minch City (Saigon) Vietnam, I visited the Chu Chi Tunnels, The Vietnamese tell a very different story about the Vietnam war than we in the Western world have been told about. These punji traps look even more gruesome than they seem in photo's. I am a bit claustrophobic so I just looked into the tunnels, It must have been awful to be in there, they also had dug out a much larger tunnel with one room used for surgery, and without the niceties we have in our hospitals and operating theatres, such as an example they couldn't sterilise implements the same way, no anaesthetic machines. It must have been absolute hell for the Vietnamese people and the poor American soldiers who were aged at approximately 19 when they were sent by conscription to kill and die for a worthy didn't want and the people didn't want, in fact the only people who wanted that war were the politicians - next time they want a war why don't we just give them the gun's and send them out to fight? and leave those of us who don't want war alone?

Another harsh Vietnam trap was the piano wire. Vietcong would string piano wire across paths where US soldiers would cross with vehicles. If a person was traveling at a high speed and came in contact with the piano wire, they would be decapitated or horribly dismembered. The most elaborate part of it is that you can't see the wire until you're very close.

To me (and a hell of a lot of footsloggers in WW2) the German "debollacker" which would spring up when stepped on to waist height and target the groin region hence the nickname, is the scariest mine ever created, for a man who had to walk into enemy territory filled with the foreboding that you would encounter this devil's device, made from porcelain or clay with the least amount of metal possible to frustrate metal detection device's , that will slow down any infantry advance when the knowledge of the injuries inflicted became common amongst the soldiers unfortunate enough to have to deal with such devices

The punji trap is also used by poachers on animal trails, normally the pit trap with several spears or sharpened stakes in it to kill or immobilize the animal. Set guns with trip wires have also been known to be used by poachers. As for the booby-trapped toys, a favorite of the Germans and Japanese in World War 2 was to leave an attractive souvenir in the form of a Luger or Nambu pistol in the open with a trip wire attached to it or a land mine planted in the most likely area a soldier would move to to get the souvenir. There were quire a few warnings published in World War 2 about booby-trapped souvenirs. As for the tampered ammunition, Chinese ammunition was not of the highest quality, and did have its problems. Japanese ammunition in World War 2 was also hazardous. A very common booby trap in World War 2 was to leave hand grenades behind with the delay element removed, so as soon as an opponent armed the grenade to use, it would go off. It just depends on how creative someone wants to get.

Ady Adrian cemetery trap because it is a 1 shot black powder gun it isn't actually a booby trap more a warning device, noise scares off the grave robber and alerts the ground keeper. so to answer your question I'd like to fall on to the wire of the cemetery gun

My grandfather told me the worst trap he encountered in the Vietnam war was a trap that involved poisonous snakes. VC would cut the snake's head off then, place it on a piece of wood, then fix the wood to the frame of a doorway, then would rig it so when someone would open the door, it would swing down and stab them. He told me most of them got very sick or died.

I just took a tour of the oldest working arsenal manufacturing facility in the world. Towards the end of the tour, the guide had mentioned that when a stationed unit had to leave the area and didn’t have time to pack up all the weapons and ammo, they would tamper with it like you mentioned in #2. They would color the faulty rounds a bright red knowing that enemy forces would chose that round first, believing the red color meant a high powered round. However unlike in #2, they did this to actually take out enemy troops, rather than make them doubt the manufacturers.
@tormodhag68243 жыл бұрын
I mean, the red rounds were technically more high power

I'm gonna show #3 to my sister, she's kinda OCD ^^ EDIT: You kinda missed one. Non-metallic landmines are the most deadly mines we know. They are a pain to detect and banned from conventional warfare because of the collateral damage from not being able to find them when the dust settles.

Sitting here in total amazement over the crooked picture bomb and the fault munitions. Total genius ideas. Imagine firing a rifle round full of c4 my God! Boobytraps from punji sticks to IEDs, claymore, mines, has to be the scariest thing to come in contact with. Psychological aspect of it is 1 hell of a war front in my opinion.

Unfortunately the booby trapped ammo is now hurting and killing random innocent people who buy bulk ammo.
@Korrupted87878 жыл бұрын
BS. Bulk ammo is in sealed cans.
@handlesaredumb18 жыл бұрын
Korrupted not all of it. There are several videos on here that show instructors getting one while teaching using bulk ammo.

If it's bulk ammo from the 60's and 70's and its not sealed why would you bother even loading it? Even if it is corrosive powder.
@handlesaredumb18 жыл бұрын
Korrupted cheap to shoot. Windex your barrel before your final cleaning pass and the corrosive ammo won't harm anything.
@Korrupted87878 жыл бұрын
Cheap to shoot? I bought 1000+ round sealed Russian surplus 7.62 for 175$ CDN, can't get much cheaper than that. Point I was trying to make is if your shooting 50+ year old ammo that isn't sealed for that amount of time and get misfires or in this rare case sabotaged ammo, I have no sympathy.

For the first trap could they use something like a metal pole to hit the ground infront of the, so it would set off the trap without anyone getting hurt

The Turks did a similar thing to the Armenians during the Armenian Genocide, except children were the intended target. The land mines would have colorful ribbons or tassels attached to them to lure children in, and when the child pulled on the ribbon or tassel, it would detonate the mine. Similarly, pressure relief triggered mines have been used in various conflicts to booby trap dead bodies. When the faction of the dead soldier attempted to retrieve the corpse for burial, or even to strip them of useful items like ammo, intel, and even rations, moving the body would release a pressure trigger that would set off the mine. Not as terrible as child targeting mines or as clever as the crooked picture frame traps, but still very effective.

Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam ." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window ? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"

The IED idea was used by the Russians in Afghanistan in the 80's some 30 years before Iraq. The Russians would use pens books toys cuddly bear etc and leave them to be be found with the predictable result. So no its wan't first used in Iraq against the coalition forces. September 16, 1987 AWEEK before, Soviet armor and paratroops had pulled out of the area in Afghanistan's Ningarhar Province. Behind them they left a variety of toys, scattered by a riverbank. Among them: a bright red plastic truck. A 14-year-old Afghan boy made the mistake of grabbing it. It exploded in his hands. It was one of the booby-trapped toys the Soviets are using as weapons in their war against the civilian population of Afghanistan that opposes Soviet occupation.In this particular instance, the boy was fortunate. The booby-trapped toy was defective. He retained his fingers. Other children have been less fortunate. They have lost hands, or even been killed.This is part of the toll the Afghan war - a war that has taken a million civilian lives and caused more than 3 million refugees to flee Afghanistan - is inflicting on children. The story of this toll, and the suggestion that children are sometimes singled out by the Soviets for intimidation and terror, has been collected in a report by the Center on War and the Child, an Arkansas-based foundation. According to Richard J. Parker, the organization's director, the center has two other reports under way, one on the role of children in the Iran-Iraq war, and another on the impact of conflict in Uganda on children. ``Children,'' he says, ``shouldn't be the victims in wars fought by adults.'' Mr. Parker says the center accepts no government money for its nonprofit operations and espouses no particular ideology. Thus while the Soviets bear the brunt of its criticism for cruelty to children in Afghanistan, the use of children by the mujahideen, or freedom fighters, is also chronicled disapprovingly.Citing a study prepared for the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, along with a variety of eyewitness accounts, the report confirms the use of booby-trapped toys and soap against children, the conscription and deportation of children to the Soviet Union, and the indiscriminate bombing of villages resulting in the death of children.There are also accounts of the execution and burning of children which are too graphic to be recounted.Perhaps one of the most cruel and morally offensive Soviet tactics against Afghan children, says the report, is the use of antipersonnel mines constructed to resemble toys. The toy bombs have been disguised as dolls, chewing gum, pens, trucks, combs, and other common objects. When picked up, they explode.The Center on War and the Child says that in a struggle for the loyalty of Afghan children, thousands between the ages of 6 and 9 have been transported to the USSR for up to 10 years of study. The purpose of this is to create a cadre capable of leading a future communist Afghanistan. The report makes clear that on the other side of the war, among the mujahideen, there is a corresponding attempt to indoctrinate young children.In the schools across the border in Pakistan, crowded with Afghan refugee children, regular lessons are heavily laden with political education. Says one schoolteacher: ``We never just teach them that two plus two makes four. We say that two dead Russians plus two dead Russians make four dead Russians killed by the mujahideen.''With the exception of the Iran-Iraq war, where thousands of young boys have been sent on suicidal human wave missions, the calculated victimization of children in Afghanistan is as gruesome a use of children in warfare as one can imagine.So far the Arkansas institution chronicling this cruelty is not impressed by the character of Western protest. ``Tragically,'' it concludes, ``the Soviet Union has been permitted to engage in a policy of genocide directed at children of the resistance with little challenge or moral condemnation from the United States and the rest of the world.''

Here is one WW2 German booby trap I have heard about - When the Allied investigated an abandoned house, they found nothing. Seemed like it was safe to occupy, so they turned it into a post. Then one Allied soldier decided to go potty in the corner of the building. As soon as his urine hit the wall... BOOM!!! The whole building was blown sky high.

Actually in WWII the Japanese would booby-trap the corpses of fallen us soldiers and airmen usually by placing grenades or pressure release triggered mines somewhere under the deceased so that when the body was recovered by the American forces the primed explosive would detonate. in Vietnam the North Vietnamese used this in a more gruesome way, they would remove the nose, eyes and some of the bone around it to plant an explosive charge in the face of a deceased enemy then place the body leaning against a tree with the helmet tilted over the face when an American would find the body they would lift the helmet to try to identify the person only to have the explosives detonate causing the head to explode and send shards of bone as well as often poisoned nails or needles that had packed in the hollowed skull flying as shrapnel.
