I am s 11:25 o relieved to have stumbled upon your videos and websites. I am widowed 75 with health problems and credit card debt that is causing increasing stress, worry and guilt over my situation. My only income is social security and a pension from my late husband. My home has been in an Irrevocable Trust for 3 years. I'm going to spend more time reviewing the information available on your websites. I wanted to thank you for providing these videos. I'm socially isolated and feel like I don't have anyone that is able to provide any support as I work through how to deal with this situation. I am so grateful for the resources you provide.

How is it legal for an attorney who is hired by a senior to go to court against a debt lawsuit, NOT TO TELL THE CLIENT his or her RIGHTS, or that he or she doesn't have to pay that debt? This is FAILURE TO REPRESENT YOUR CLIENT and MALPRACTICE!!

I told a collections my pension and SS were exempt and protected. He then said he would place a LEIN on my 2017 GMC. I told him the engine was blown and I can tow it to him. Never called back again. 🙌

Crooked local justice court judge ignored the binding arbitration clause from a credit card company because they claimed, in a court filing, that it would be too expensive for them and he then signed a judgement against me This was 2014. I flat told the judge and the credit card company that I had no money. The judge refused a face-to-face hearing on the merits of the case so I filed for bankruptcy. Funny thing was the amount I owed was about the same as what the banksters stole from me in the '07-8 economic meltdown. I have a 'Poor' credit rating at age 75. I have cash on hand for 3-6 months and a minimal amount in a bank and credit union. I have enough money for 3 squares and a warm/dry cot so I am wealthy.... I have a pickup with a camper with solar and can tow my 4x4 and park it for free in many areas. Life is good.

actually, i called several attorneys recently due to debt issues as a senior, every one of them told me i was 'untouchable' and safe from prosecution. i was told to NOT pay the debt, and to NOT speak to any collectors, and to NOT respond to any mailed papers. i am still interested in filing bankruptcy, to clear my 'record' and give me some peace of mind.

I just received a letter from a debt collector law group asking me to reply back with a dispute due on the 18 of Aug 2024. I am a senior and only have SS benefits and nothing else. How should I respond to this letter? Tell them that my income is protected and I know my rights or ? Please advise if you can help me. TY

I’m 60. Am I considered a senior? We live off my husband’s Social Security disability check alone. He is 66. My name was on several credit cards that we have shredded months ago, but I don’t know if I fall under senior protection. Thank you for your help.

What about taking their home or car ? I have a mortgage but my car is paid for
@HELPSNonprofitLawFirm8 ай бұрын
HELPS has videos with Senior Living that discuss this. Bottom line is that different state laws called exemption laws protect certain amount of equity in a persons property like a home or car. However it is not the practice for consumer judgment creditors to attempt to take a persons home or car even in instances where there is equity over the state protected amount. HELPS videos with Senior Living discusses this.

"HELPS Non-Profit Law Firm" DOES charge for their services. I tried helping a friend by sharing this info and they told her that it would be $40 a month for two years, then $20 a month for four years. I called to verify that she understood correctly and they confirmed it. They are going to help seniors by billing them for SIX YEARS??? This was sooooo disappointing - I feel they (HELPS) are just as bad as the creditors. Seniors need to show up to court and handle their business, just like everyone else - bad move to allow others to make decisions against you because you were intimidated and didn't show up for YOUR court date. Please do your research seniors.
@PamDalton-so9by8 ай бұрын
Thats a very low price for hiring an attorney. Some seniors need services like this to lessen their stress that is hurting their health.
@HELPSNonprofitLawFirm8 ай бұрын
You may want to get your facts correct before making accusations and conclusions. At least one out of five HELPS clients receive our services at no charge. For those that pay it is based on household income. The most a person would pay to enroll in HELPS would be $40 for 24 months and then $20 for 24 months, then free thereafter. Not sure where you come up with six years. Many HELPs clients pay $10 or $20 per month over four years then free thereafter. We never turn any qualified person away. You might want to look at out reviews also. Seniors who receive protected income and who owe debt don't need to show up in court. They are judgment proof. Their income is protected. Seniors need to do their research and there is a HELPS website where you could spend hours and KZbin channel with scores if not hundreds of videos on different topics.
