When I came out of the cults, it was trusting the Bible and embracing the Trinity that took a long road. Very quickly, I moved towards Reformed and Covenant. I love my Calvin and curious of his progressive covenantalism. Primarily at this point I am 1689 Confession and Pascal Denault, Coxx and Owens. Will buy.

Dr Wellum came and taught a Bible study at my church several years ago. He certainly knows his stuff, but he did not come off as an ivory-towered, out-of-touch academic, but as someone who is concerned about the spiritual health of local churches, and that the people in the pews have a solid grasp of the contents and message of the Bible. I will be getting a copy of this book, and volume 2 when it comes out.

Pastor Joe, this is way over my aptitude but, I will inject something here. I had never heard of the term progressive covenantalism. (Judging by the red squiggly line under the word 'covenantalism', I'm not the only one! LOL) What immediately came to mind was the trinity. (as opposed to the Trinity Doctrine) I understand the phrase, 'In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit' to be similar, that is, to a progressive covenantalism. How I understand the trinity: We are made in God's image. God, the Father. His Son, Jesus. His Spirit, the Holy Spirit. (only His Spirit is omnipresent) We have a soul (our heavenly host body), a flesh body, and a spirit. That's our trinity. God loved us, but many of us were bad. He destroyed what was (Jeremiah 4:19-27). He established His plan to reconcile us through His Son, Emanuel. Once He paid the price we can have communion with Him by the indwelling of His Holy Spirit. I hope you see the progression in that. I don't know of anyone that has this as their theology, except for the Word of God.
