Always good to hear your clear, cheerful voice! Down here in S. FL's zone 10, we are just coming out of the drought season, & it's time to plant zucchini & beans! Sadly, it was SO warm here this "winter" that my potatoes only produced 3 thumbnail sized tubers, though the vines were very happy, though useless! The Sweet Potatoes are doing great, though, & I've got all the tiny Everglades Tomatoes I can eat! Good luck to everyone this growing season.🍀

I've been struggling to grow tomatoes, people say you can just take a slice of tomato and plant it and it'll grow, but nope, that hasn't worked for me, so I've got tomato seeds now, waiting for summer to start to plant them (it's winter in Cape Town now)

I planted tomato seeds on Christmas Day, 2022. 2 determinate cluster grape tomatoes and 2 indeterminate seeds from a u-pick field. All are 5'+ tall and full of green tomatoes. Going to be a bumper harvest...p.s. I use liquid agrithrive once a month. I use ground cinnamon on top of the soil and renew it monthly. Not any bugs or flies, no fungus, no worms. I haven't sprayed one time. Last year the whiteflies nearly carried everything away..Just unbelievable!😊

Dude I enjoy your installments SO much! Your knowledge is extensive and myself as a new gardener VERY welcome!! Here in The Netherlands I'm in zone 8b approximately which is VERY different from you in what? ... zon e 5 -6 in Michigan? At any rate I learn A LOT from you. THANKS!!!!👍👍

Hi, thanks for the informative video. Beginner gardener here in PNW, in zone 8b. I've always read that you should direct sow beans, squash, and cucumbers because they don't like their roots to be disturbed. But for us, that would be all the way to mid may, and some of the winter squash varieties I want to grow take 110ish days to mature. So when do you start your cucurbits and beans? And when do you transplant them outside?
@TheRipeTomatoFarms
@TheRipeTomatoFarms Жыл бұрын
Hey Trang, great questions, and really, that's the meat of it. Count backwards from when you want to be harvesting....if its a 120 day crop, then count backwards 120 days from an ideal harvesting date. Inside or outside, THAT'S when you should be starting the seeds.

WHERE/WHO can I get Orgsnic (if that’s the word, you know, minus the chemicals) from our country, Zone 5 Midwest, mostly. Thank you. PS: we would love to hear your thoughts later on growing watermelon. (It’s too early now I know). I heard it all. Wait for a yellow side, thumping, but I get mushy insides not that sweet. Do not like seedless! I have beautiful rich-looking dark soil that I’ve put egg shells & My compost in over the years. ALSO, I’ve been growing asparagus for 5 years. Does not produce very much at a time. Thanks!

Hey Jeff I see you use your domes even after they have germinated.lve seen other videos that say domes are not needed. Are there advantages and disadvantages to doing this? Your feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jeff
@TheRipeTomatoFarms
@TheRipeTomatoFarms Жыл бұрын
Hey Jeff! I take the domes off when the true leaves start to appear, but before hand I leave it on to max out germination (and growth) rates. That way I know which seedlings are superior, faster. 🙂

I have a question for you because I'll trust your answer. What is the safe temperature to start germinating carrot seeds out side? Thank you.
@TheRipeTomatoFarms
@TheRipeTomatoFarms Жыл бұрын
Carrots are great because they don't lie really die in cold temps, they lie dormant waiting for the chance to sprout. The best germination temperatures however are between 7-30°C (45-85°F).

Hi Jeff. I watch your video when it came on. But my phone would not text. So all better now, so this is the time to tell you that I really appreciate this video. Tomatoes ✔️ cucumbers ✔️ bell peppers ✔️ hopeless I guess the seeds are bad. Not even a hint that I planted a thing. Try try again, right? Not with those seeds. By the way I got them given to me. So no idea about how old or storage. Thanks for the vid. Love & God bless ❤

@The Ripe Tomato Farms hey Jeff it wan 72- 74. degrees. I started them In fabric planters. But yeah not a one. Weird. Makes me think I forgot the seed. But no I kinda remember placing them inside. It's the 1st time I've heard of that happening. And of course it's me.i picked up new seeds today. I'll get them in this week. Oh by the way tomatoes are leggy. I have to go watch your video again. Or look in my notes. It's just easier watching you. Take care. ❤️

@The Ripe Tomato Farms hey Jeff, dumb isn't the word for what I'm going to tell you. I shouldn't say, but my conscience is digging me. I went to start my seeds using the same planters.and soil. I couldn't find a seed in any of them. I also can't find the little pack of pepper seeds I was given. So I never put the seeds in. I'm just so forgetful. Or plain ol' dumb. I decided to laugh it off. But dang. Well the good news is, I did it right this morning. It's funny because in the back of my mind I was telling myself that I probably didn't put the seeds in!!! Won't let that happen again! Take care.

Hi Jeff. Somewhat off topic but I have to ask. Have you ever had to deal with Voles in your vegetable gardens? I have them in my raised veg beds and I can’t put my vegetables in them now😢 I’ve waited the whole winter and now this happened. Exterminators can only suggest poison in black boxes they distribute around the property for you. I’m strictly organic and also have a pet cat that I don’t want poison around. I’m so saddened by this. Any info would be greatly appreciated🙏
