I’ve just started on this journey, I was the typical “wardrobe full of clothes and nothing to wear”. I love having my wish list and then deciding what to buy from it next - I think it’s that psychological thing of wanting something, waiting for it and then finally getting it. You do appreciate it more I think and therefore look after it better! It reminds me of being a teenager and that feeling you would get when you’d finally saved up enough to buy that top you’d been eyeing up in Miss Selfridges for weeks 😂😂😂😂

It’s so important to think about your wardrobe holistically. If you buy a new lamp for a room, you don’t just grab the first lamp you think is cute, you have to consider whether or not it will work with the room you want to put it in, whether it goes with your style, whether there’s a real need for it, etc. We need to do this with our clothes, too, and that’s how you can avoid “tons of clothes but nothing to wear” syndrome.
@sweetpeace54 жыл бұрын
Love this lamp analogy; so true. It really does come down to being thoughtful & deliberate with great consideration for whether the item plays well with other items in your current wardrobe, fits ones lifestyle, fits well, high quality etc. I’ve made far too many impulse buys & it absolutely creates chaos.

Important point about 'recycling clothes' , buy second hand as much as possible and sell on or give on after use. Save the planet!
@thandosdance15044 жыл бұрын
I needed mules and I decided for once to try n see if I can get new ones. The leather ones were about R800 on sale and plastic one R400 which tbqh way over what I could afford. Just went to my favourite thrift place n came back with 3 good leather pairs for R240. What was interesting for me was that I never knew I needed them to start with until I couldn't wear closed shoes due to hurting toes.

When I turned 60 earlier this year, I no longer liked my 20+ year Boho style (still very popular where I live in California), and wanted a more classic wardrobe. I lost three sizes the previous year, so I had to replace my wardrobe anyway; most alterations are not feasible for such a big change. (I was able to take in some simpler pants and skirts.) I have been gradually rebuilding from scratch, and am preparing to sell online the better-quality and more-desirable items from my previous wardrobe, and gift or donate the others. I don’t donate or keep anything that isn’t in very good, wearable condition, but recycle these slightly faded, etc., items. So, I’m holding these until H&M reopens its garment/fiber recycling program after the pandemic. I find your tips for re-gearing a wardrobe very helpful! I’m almost excited to see a new video from you!

As another person mentioned, I’ve got a closet filled with clothes but nothing to wear. After listening to your counsel, it’s as if a light went off and I am so grateful! I have a direction now and eager to pursue a better way of shopping and dressing even at 64 years old. All the best to you!

I found this so helpful! Process seems more streamlined than other videos/blogs I’ve seen. Going into my mid-30s I feel like I need a totally closet re-haul to rid myself of trends. Still pieces I’ve had trouble letting go since they’re good quality but find them not fitting into the style I’m developing as I get older and settled into my career/lifestyle. Thank you for the help! If you have a follow-up video about any of these steps - that would be great!

Thanks Emma, I like your style so much, and you have been very much my inspiration on my capsual wardrobe. Very much agree to spend that bit more on the pieces you know you can wear over and over, which I very much do so on my classical pieces. I'm a bit older than you, 54😀, yes old enough to be your mum, but i have learnt so much from you. I would just like to add from my own mistakes, dont splash out on those items that are in for a season, that you know you most probably won't be wearing next year. I usually by the bulk of my wardrobe at mid to high end from the high street, but those one hit wonders i sometimes dip into, i go lower end. For those youngsters out there, listen to Emma those high end staple classical pieces will last a long long time. I wish I had started that 20 plus years ago, I would now have a wardrobe full of some vintage beuaties 🥰😍

That is fantastic! My daughter has on more than one occasion said "mum I wish you had some of your old clothes that I could wear" I loved the 80s. Thats the thing with Emma's style, it suits all ages, gives you a great base to tweak to your own style. Its nice to see that us older ladies are still enjoying fashion, we are not ready for the elasticated waistbands and velcro shoes just yet 😊 Happy shopping! 😀

I have more of less been following those steps since the first lockdown. I'm slowly building my new wardrobe with versatile pieces and having fun mixing and matching them in a different way. I personally love using Shoptagr for my wish list items and I've been keeping a wish list on Evernote so as to not stray from there. I have put myself a budget for Black Friday and I'm waiting for those discount codes to come through. The blazer you showed from Mango has been on my wish list for a while now but it's sold out. I'm also thinking about the taupe blazer you were tweaking for your collab with some brand and I'm not sure which I like best. I really don't need that many blazers, I have a black one from Zara and I recently bought one at a discount from Everlane in a gorgeous earthy tone. On the other hand, however, I have extremely sensitive skin regarding jumpers. I can't stand wool and I hate wearing synthetic materials so I don't have many options for the colder months. I'm thinking blazers are a great alternative and look so chic and put together. I will try alpaca, though, like you mentioned in another video. I tried cashmere last year but I still find it very itchy and it drives me crazy. It's weird but I'm saving more money now that I'm purchasing more quality items than I used to when shopping sloppy garments just because they were on sale or were extremely affordable. It's like my mindset has been altered and my habits have changed and affected other aspects of my life as well, in a very positive way.

While I love the idea behind this video, and generally the tips are good, one aspect that seems to be missing - practicality and what it is that a person actually wears. If I look at my pins/what I save you would think I wear heels everyday, while I havent worn them in a year 😅 keep in mind what it is you actually wear and not buy clothes for your “fantasy self”
@sweetpeace54 жыл бұрын
GREAT & VITAL ADVICE!! Don’t buy clothing/accessories based on someone else’s lifestyle that has no reflection of your own: buying for your “fantasy self” esp with social media constantly in your face which often has us creating an image in our mind of some person we want to be & then an urge to buy things completely incongruous with our real lifestyle. I’m so guilty & it’s such a waste in ALL ways. Brings great guilt.

It would really depend on the style you are aiming to achieve, although there is no reason you couldn't have two or three for different styles/occasions (ie. work, home, etc.) If you can't have a style that fits all, then take aspects that you like and fit them into each board. For example work on your home style and then take the aspects that you like from there that can be used for work and add them into the work board, adapting them as required to suit the need 👍

So i just can not comite or invest myself to buy a better quality sweatpants. So in that aspect i go to these stores.
