Tip for zenithal, use the technique with the primers or undercoats. Black spraying upwards, gray straight on, and white from above. Then give it color coat.

I've never painted a print but I know it's time to learn. This was a great intro. I guess I thought you had to be an airbrush artist to get these effects, so it looks like magic to me.
@Nosferatuklown3 жыл бұрын
I do the Zenithal starting from a black base then to light grey at a 45-degree angle then a pure white (lightly from above) with rattle cans - then few drops of Liquitex Acrylic Colored Inks in the air brush and once blasted with color it comes out vibrant and stunning and shaded to different tones of the ink color because of the three-stage zenithal. My personal favorite way of "Quick Coloring" - the metal effects for patina and rust look great though, gonna try to give that a shot next time I'm at a hobby lobby. Some new(ish) techniques I'm trying next is cheapo soft pastels from the dollar store in a coffee grinder to create "Pigment Dust" to weather prints. And while at the dollar store grab a "Kid Pack" of tiny assorted oil paint tubes - dilute with white spirit and make and oil wash that's 1000% better and easier to use than your traditional acrylic washes and in many more vibrant colors - splatter it everywhere and with a Q Tip dipped in pure white spirits just do a light cleaning on the areas you dont want it on and it come of clean without that "coffee staining" effect you get with acrylic washes. But if you still want to create tons and tons of custom colored washes check out "Black Magic Craft" on KZbin (king of DIY dioramas and RPG Terrain) he has a whole video on making bulk "Black Magic Craft Wash" that's a 95%accurate clone of the washes Game's Workshop makes but with the option of making them custom colors (like the light blues/greens for a patina effect wash) by using cheap cheap cheap materials all sourced from Hobby Lobby/Michael's/Dollar Store. I'd REALLY love a collaboration video with you two since he's started to get into 3d printing of large terrain buildings and terrain scatter items (dumpsters/shipping containers/etc) for his own game boards a year or so back

(I have the same printer but it takes nearly 1hour 10min every cm or 55min close but without destroying my FEP). Here in Florida I gave up on regular primers and just use a satin paint. Less fuzzy and your following layers of paint don't end up with the bottom layer bleeding in. I did a couple Cthulhu buddhas, one with black primer, one with black satin paint, and the one with the primer dulled out later gold paint so fast as it dried and multiple layers did not help. The one with satin spray paint held it's color and adhered very well.

can 3d print resin be used like uv deep pour resin? sans 3d printer?
@UncleJessy3 жыл бұрын
No, 3D printer resin is much more brittle and cures via UV light
@randallbourque13213 жыл бұрын
Not really. 3d Resin is made to be cured by sunlight in very thin layers. Poor resin cures because of a chemical reaction between the two different components. Hope this helps.

Hey uncle Jessie what do you recommend for somone who is wanting to get into printing like printers, filament types, encased vs open what would you recommend around 500 to 2k
@thekkidd3d3 жыл бұрын
That price range literally covers everything that isn't Medical or Industrial grade.... First 3 questions you need to answer for yourself (and anyone trying to advise you): ¹ Do you have the ability to ensure a well-ventilated space? (You need this if you want to do Resin printing. It is good to have for Any printing. Especially if you plan to airbrush etc at some point...) ² Do you want large build volume or a smaller format? Also, do you have the space to put a roughly man-sized machine that produces a fair amount of noise? ³ How serious do you want to be about.the hobby? $2k Large build Resin printers are a real investment in more than just Cash. They take other kinds of investment and upkeep. (True of ALL 3d printers) ⁴ Lastly, do you just want to make nifty trinkets, decent models or very high-resolution detailed miniatures? (If the former, probably a filament feed. The latter, you almost certainly want Resin.....) Ask yourself these questions, then consider the answers. It will guide you and anyone advising you on what is the right direction to start in.

Just wanted to chime in.. for spraying, Montana colors spray paint (graffiti paint) sticks to literally any surface with nice deep coverage without needing a primer base, not to mention the HUGE range of colors and spray cap choices. I find that using their paint for painting really anything other than graffiti, works really well to save a little time and money.

@@JadedEvol a great printer to start with is the Longer3D Orange 10 resin printer. It's really cheap at around $200 (less sometimes when on sale) and a bottle of resin will set you back about $20-$30 depending on the color or effect you want. It's not the best resin printer, especially considering it's an MSLA machine, but it definitely gets the job done when you take the necessary safety precautions and maximize the small build plate's potential. You can get some really good, clean prints from it for relatively cheap. It's a good bridge between not having any kind of resin printer or using an FDM machine and buying something like an Elegoo or Anycubic machine

Looking for help from the community or even Uncle Jessy himself... Will a solid piece resin printed bust be alright to paint over the long term? I use a curing station but even still there's comments on the interwebs about the only true solidified resin is the outside layers from the curing station, and that the semi-solidified resin on the inside (only cured while printed) will one day find a way to sweat out of the model.... Any thoughts? I much prefer the heaviness of solid pieces on my shelves but am worried about a solid 3D printed piece someday leaking or sweating resins... Many thanks in advance!

I'm pretty sure he's using a SLA (resin) printer and not an FDM...the detail on some of the pieces he had are too extreme for most FDM printers and I saw NO layering on the prints at all (one of the features of SLA printing with super high or 4K resolution). Edit: Yes apparently from the comments I'm correct in that assumption of him using a SLA printer. Mars 2 which seems like a pretty affordable printer.
