Great finds, I really need to get into this label. I love when you get into the music and the sound, and educate me about labels I’d never heard of before. Your descriptive language is passionate and exciting, and it’s a great strength. Don’t get to hung up about trying to translate an AAA experience over the internet with videos, you communicate well and lead people to experience it themselves.

Hallo Michael. Habe gleich einpaar der LPs bestellt. Als erstes ist heute schon mal James Newton angekommen. Klasse Scheibe. Dein Tip war goldrichtig. Danke dafür. Ich würde mir mehr solcher Videos wünschen.

Great job here Michael. I have 3 of the 5 here and they are mind-blowers (Hassell, Afric and Bitter Beer Band). Another I would add, which maybe you have, is the Wolfgang Dauner "Output" Hope all is well.

Two more worth checking that I own are Meredith Monk's Dolmen Music and Steve Reich's Music for 18 Musicians.

I am very glad I saw the Moscow Art Trio (Alperin, Shilkloper and Starostin) in concert in Russia when Alperin was still alive. As well as the individual musicians in other groups and ensembles, e.g. at the Kuryokhin festival. Always a very special experience.

ECM seems to hit the mark and will need to look into their Jazz Approach. Thank you Michael, for a great, informative review !

Another great video! You're just about the best out there. Regarding that Jon Hassell, the vinyl has become pretty rare. Pricey when you can find it. Thanks again!

Afric Pepperbird is one of the top 200 jazz albums that reshaped the jazz landscape. This album is great and highly recommended.

Really nice selections highlighting some excellent releasees that are often overlooked in best of ECM lists. I'm particularly a fan of Axum and this might be the first time I've seen it on a video.

First, one thing should be said about ECM as a label. They do not remaster and/or remix their recordings in subsequent reissues after the first one. So if you buy a first pressing or a later one, the recording is absolutely the same in its fantastic quality as it was mixed and mastered in the first place. This is one of the things that makes ECM really stand amongst all other labels. They do not think commercially. They think musically. Then, the music they published and continue to publish is not only "wow" like very nicely Michael puts it 😉 It is THE music. At least for me. Since I discovered the music ECM publishes, all other music in my collection seemed...lesser. Afterwards is just everybody's taste in choosing from their vast catalogue. I am a huge fan of Garbarek for example and I have almost all of his albums. I didn't especially liked saxophone until I listened to him. An absolut master artist. And another artist I really like and recommend from ECM is Stephan Micus, a compatriote of Michael (german artist). His musical vision is really outstanding. Really love his music and recommend it. Thank you Michael for these suggestions (and other by the way like John Scofield's guitar solo which I now have and enjoy). I will sure look into them too. 😃👍🎷🎶 I am overjoyed every time you talk about ECM albums. Keep the suggestions coming please. PS: a little fixing on title of the video is needed...I think. 😉

Hi Michael - great fan of your channel - just one request - could you please hold the album covers in focus for few more seconds in order that we can read the name? I keep checking sites for the titles as I keep watching the video. Alternately - you can provide links to the titles from any online store (including yours) in the Description section. Thanks and keep up the good work!

I think this is a really important request. Please do put the titles and artists of the recommended albums in the description. You're pretty great about showing the jacket, and any photos that are inside the gatefold, etc. But sometimes when you hold the album up for us to see, the top part is out of the frame, and one of these records you highlight in this video the artist & title are outside of the frame of your camera. I know you put a lot of thought and care into your videos and we're all grateful.

Never realized the Jon Hassell "Power Spot" was ECM .. have a copy on CD, ripped now, but not Vinyl. Would love, love, love to have the Jan Garabak LP - been keeping an eye out for that one. Most recent ECM finds - past month or so: Steve Kuhn and Ecstasy "Motility" Polydor/ECM Dave Liebman "Drum Ode" WB/ECM Barre Phillips "Three Day Moon" WB/ECB

Hi Michael, i am quite a fan of Stephan Micus who is a bit of an outlier in ECM catalog in terms of his music and the fact that he maintains control over the music but releases via ECM. I have many of his early albums on Vinyl but from the 90's he stopped with vinyl releases so these are only available on CD, digital or via streaming on Qobuz. I not sure if you are a fan of his music explorations? Also on ECM i really love some of the Anour Brahem releases on vinyl (Le Pas du Chat Noir, Astrakan Cafe, Blue Maqams etc.). Some have been released on vinyl recently (originally I think they were cd releases only) Finally, ECM records when you could find them in Australia were often dirt cheap and in great condition, of course this is changing recently as people start to love their back catalog and music again
