Full disclosure - I have plastic laminate countertops in my house. I know, right? We put them in 15 years ago as a "temporary" solution and haven't upgraded since. One day I will get my soapstone though!

soapstone is sooo lovely. I have old laminate that is all cut up and worn out now. looking at replacing finally

Plastic laminate made from compacted and glued sawdust is about the worst product you can have around any damp or wet environment. It starts to rave las soon as the humidity hits it. I'm going with natural granites, one domestic and one imported (I haven't heard of any forced labor camps in Norway).

What do you think of Paper Stone?

Wonderful info. Thanks for putting together and sharing. Love the idea of wood and stainless. I’m thinking about copper and hoping it would meet your ethical standards. Thanks again

I enjoyed this video so much. You both are very clear...I must renovate an entire condo and I'm a total newbie. This was so helpful. Thank you.

Can’t agree more on that . Putting chemical over the surface of a natural stone is a stupid idea to begin with

My favorite is the soap stone because of all the texture & color. I love that you said the soapstone patinas, very cool. I also love the wood but after someone eats at a wood counter how do you clean it? 🤔 I’m so used to using a spray and wipe cleaner that disinfects

I really love the wood countertops we've designed and installed for some of our clients. They look and feel warm to the touch and there is an undeniable positive connection that people have with wood. Capture some carbon and put it to work in your kitchen!

We are just finishing our build of our house made from Western Canadian hemlock. So, of course we are looking for as much sustained products as possible. We are using Quartz kitchen countertop and using our old butcher block pieces that we bought with us from the Uk years ago. We are now trying to transfer to natural products and moving away from using plastics.

Soapstone is the best one here by far. Expensive though and tough to size.

I love that you're showing the less toxic options and telling where to obtain them. Would also be interested in seeing a home setup with these options of anyone wants to open their home. ;)

There is a company called Polycor, a Canadian based company, that has US based quarries for both marble and soapstone. They also have a useful map on their website showing the locations of their quarries.

I love the idea of using wood butcher block countertops, it’s beautiful and is practical with anti microbial and natural maintenance practices. I have a family member remodeling their home and forwarded this video to them to help with their kitchen design!

Thanks for the education on the options. I'm doing a kitchen makeover next month and wanted something affordable and more eco-friendly. Your video has sealed my decision to go with butcher block.

i used a portion of real butcher block on a cabinet I rescued from the garbage in my old home. it was just one surface so i went ahead and treated it just like it was a butcher block? oiled it often but cut right onto it. I think IKEA wood tops are sooo pretty but they are no longer full butcher block? they have composite inside but this makes them lighter and also they are more sustainable according to their website. I'm thinking of either stainless steel, butcher block, or soapstone now in my kitchen. my issue might be what the fabricator my contractor works with could make for me?

Wood is noble, warm and aesthetic option with disappointing cons of depleted green cover on our beloved planet !

I'm in love with the porcelain countertops! I would love to see a kitchen of a mix of stainless steel and soapstone as well.
