I'm lucky that as someone who does a million crafts, I can easily task switch onto something else (Resin crafts, crochet, cross stitch, candle making etc.) to give my brain enough space to rest and recover. However, I still get general 'crafts' burnout and might need to spend a week or more just playing games, or reading, to completely take my mind off it. I would also very much recommend under the 'self care' banner, that people look to getting therapy where possible. If you are having significant creative block, it's really crucial to look at the reasons that might be causing it that are more than just spending too much time on one thing. Therapy is such a critical mental health resource that not enough people have access to, and it can really help with things like this, and help someone to work out why they are struggling to be creative. Also sorry to hear you are unwell Carol - hope you feel better soon!

Thank you Lexi. Am definitely on the mend now but still have a way to go. I agree with all that you have said here. Believe it or not, jewellery making is not my first love, sewing is and when I'm feeling stuck I go there. I also agree that counselling can be a big help, especially if you're dealing with something big.

Thanks for some really good tips. If I am blocked, I usually go back to a simple pattern I have done many times before that I don’t have to think about and just bead for the simplicity - it’s like meditation - no pressure. 😊

Great tips! When I have creative block, I find a piece I’ve made that I really like, and I change up the colors, the beads, or a little part of the design. It’s usually just the thing to break that block.

I'm actually an author and use jewelry making as a creative outlet; I take pleasure in making jewelry to give away to friends and strangers. I love everything you said, all great ideas. I have struggled with writer's block in the past. There was two things that helped me a lot. The first one was when someone suggested that there's no such thing as writer's block. The example given was to be like a surgeon: she can't wake up one day and say she's got surgeon's block! The most powerful help for me of all was remembering what I'm doing and why so that I approach my work with JOY!! I also realized that each of my books is actually a kind of a love note to the reader. When I make and give away jewelry, I make each piece as a hug for whoever will wear it! I hope that helps someone too. I love making jewelry because it's faster to make earrings than to write a book and I appreciate being able to finish something in one sitting, so satisfying! Thanks for the great videos!
@The_Stylish_Maker9 ай бұрын
That's a great point. I think creativity is a little different from a surgeon though. If you push through sometimes it can be disastrous. I agree about making a piece for someone you love and thinking about giving them a big hug while doing it. I often think about the person I'm making for, and if it's not for anyone, I think of someone I think would like it. That makes the project go way better. Good luck with your books.

I love your content, very helpful in many ways. When I get stuck, I look out for jewelry in the shops, buy pieces with unusual beads or components, take it all apart, and create my own design by combining my own materials with the new components. It's much easier than buying beads in large quantities.

Hi Carol - Great tips! I keep inspired by watching online tutorials, and when beading catalogs come in the mail I go through them and cut out the sample pictures of finished pieces. I tape those pictures in a scrap book of "ideas" and flip through it from time to time when I want to try something new. Also, recently a tutorial of yours from 3 years ago show up on my feed. You made dragonfly earrings from dagger beads. I've been having a ball making them and they are so pretty! ~ You mentioned subscribing to your newsletter, but I'm not seeing the link. Can you point me in the right direction? Thank you - for everything!

I reorganize my beads a lot. It does seem to help. I have honestly done all of these without thinking about it. Lol. It's probably because I have always done something artsy... Painting, sewing, crochet, knitting, etc...
@The_Stylish_Maker9 ай бұрын
Thank you, Adrienne. Yes, I think we all do a lot of these things without thinking about it but when you're really stuck sometimes even that doesn't come easily. I have always been a really artsy person too and I get quite depressed if I can't do something crafty.

This video came at literally the perfect time for me 😭 thank you! ETA: what usually works for me is just switching mediums, so to speak. I’ve had to put down jewelry for now and got back into resin, but this time I’m having no inspiration for any mediums 😢

I'm glad it was helpful Lindsay. Switching mediums is a good idea. For me, I often go back to my sewing when I'm feeling this way. Good luck on clearing your block.
