When I started solo camping a few years ago at age 50 (lol), I found TWO Coleman camp stoves for $10 each on FB marketplace still in their cases never used. Score! Now, I still camp but one is in my emergency kit as a permanent edition as well as plenty of fuel. Yes, I’m insane. 😂

Another really good shelfstable super cheap quick dinner, and you can get it all at the dollar tree is a box of pasta, 1 can no bean chili and one of the packets of jalapeño Velveeta cheese, and a packet of cornbread mix. Cook the pasta add in the chili and cheese stir up and then bake the corn muffins per package directions for the side. Quick yummy 5.00 shelf stable

Brooke I am laughing here in the UK that what you call ‘pockets’ are literally Pasties. Pasties literally were made for miners so they didn’t need plates (pasties here usually have more overlap of pastry as miners discarded that bit to not have to wash hands). But anything in pastry is good!
@AuntVickiesCraftCorner

Pasties are something exotic dancers wear on their chest
@colettebishop2173
@colettebishop2173 Жыл бұрын
You pronounce those "paysties" though, the kind you eat are pronounced "pahsties". The thick crimp round the edge of the pasty had two purposes, Cornish tin ore was often found along side arsenic bearing deposits, so it allowed the miners to eat their meal, without ingesting toxic heavy metals. Secondly, they threw the leftover crust down the mine to keep the Knockers (malevolent spirits that live in mines) happy, so they didn't pull out the pit props or collapse the tunnels!
@AuntVickiesCraftCorner
@AuntVickiesCraftCorner Жыл бұрын
@@colettebishop2173 no we call them “pasties” because the are adhered to the chest. Google it
@raisingmitchells1224
@raisingmitchells1224 Жыл бұрын
@@AuntVickiesCraftCorner we’re not debating what you call them. We’re just saying what we in the UK call Pasties is different. What you call pasties I would call a nipple tassel. Nothing wrong with those. Ours is usually a bit tastier unless you get something edible. And I am from Devon (county next to Cornwall so we have mines) these thing have been our history for hundreds of years. I am sure someone from the US will understand long running history is something people want to share.

I have these type of "blessing bags" for families in our apartment complex ready to go with directions on how to make them. This is because my sweet "middle magpie" likes to tell her friends that we have food for moooonths....so when these friends need a hearty meal, they just whisper it to Magpie and she will come and "sneak a brown bag" for them to take home. For this reason, I have been "hoarding" the huge brown bags our walmart deliveries come in. She knows not to tell people what it is or who it is for and she is to never discuss it after she gives it to her friend. The certain adults also know I have extra food set aside for families, just in case. Thank you for sharing this.

Canned chicken is a staple in my pantry. I use it when I don’t want to cook chicken. It’s so convenient and tastes great. I also keep the pizza dough mix and a variety of boxed foods as pantry staples. Another great video. I’m definitely trying the homemade “emergency “ hot pockets. I’m going to make extras to freeze. I appreciate all of the time you put into your videos.

You sure can! We have a gas grill (and a charcoal grill) with a burner on one side and we have a Coleman camping stove that has two burners and run on the small cans of butane. I live in Florida so we have hurricanes and we lose power for a few days sometimes a couple weeks. In 2004 I was pregnant with my oldest daughter we lost power for two weeks the storm went north of us changed patterns and came back around to us again and we lost it for two more weeks. It’s unpredictable how long we may be out of power. Before each storm we refill at least 5 propane tanks for the grill and we have plenty of charcoal for the other grill and keep stock of the cans of butane. We eat pretty normal with the grill and 3 burners. And we have a generator that runs our big freezer and fridge and freezer. I can cook pretty much anything on the grill plus have the burners. We just have to have water to wash dishes luckily our generator is big enough to run our well.

I was just thinking about seasoning for emergency meals and thought you could use a snack size zip lock bag and measure out the amount of salt, pepper, onion and garlic powder, etc., and put the small seasoning bag in the emergency meal bag. You'd have the seasoning available and pre-measured in one convenient baggie.

I can’t imagine trying to feed four boys and a hard working husband. That’s a full time job all in itself. My MIL did the same thing. She did huge amounts of home baking. I’d never seen meals like the ones she dished up when I first sat down at their table. The temptation to fill them up on carbohydrates, which are filling and hunger busting, is huge. Fortunately they were all sports mad so burnt it up. Food was SO much cheaper in the 70s & 80s - especially meat.

These recipes all look really yummy. I don't think I can choose a favorite. They're all pretty budget friendly meals too. This is not about food but I have to say that.. I'm always amazed at what an awesome head of hair Ryder has. If he let's it get shoulder length or longer it's going to be super amazing. It's already awesome. Does someone else in the family have hair like that? My grandpa had super thick hair like that but he was born in 1900 so he never had very long hair, his hair used to stick up straight on top and Brillcream didn't stand a chance of taming it. My grandpa was prematurely grey and when he passed as an elderly man he still had his full head of white hair. Hope Ryder keeps his awesome locks forever too!

How do you find a blessing box? I tried to find some on NJ to donate to but I couldn’t find them. I’m not sure if it’s a thing there. I’m in Tennessee until Thursday and I’d love to go get some stuff to put in. Every winter my husband and I help our local Salvation Army with their homeless population. During “Cov” all the warming stations and soup kitchens were closed. If they were lucky they would get a bagged lunch. We took donations on Facebook from friends who either donated money or sent products to us and we made care packages that the Salvation army distributed. We would love to fill a blessing box before we head home. We are near Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area.

I tried your chicken ranch and bacon things today and they were delicious . I love watching you and your family. You are doing a great job on showing people how to cook and not cost alot of money. I love to cook and it does save alot of money.

Yum! Great video, thank you for breaking it down and showing us how easy it can be. I have a Q--what do you think about using the chicken broth to replace some of the water for the pizza crust??

It might mess with the salt content of the dough and make it not rise as well, but since pizza crust doesn't rise much anyway I don't actually know. Curious to see what she thinks!
