A spoiled transplant from WA.where growing apples was like growing grass to me. I had 4 trees...pruned, organic, and sitting pretty in my cookie cutter Spanaway front yard. Now we are 13yrs in MO. Finally acclamated, I have 1 lonely tree on a slope 6ft from a downspout. I have had it for 4 years with no blooms (leaves were holey). I have 1.5 acres. Oak trees everywhere. About 80 down so far. I have 10 fruit trees planted so far. Also planted a walnut tree far away. So much work!

Look up ramification. Same principles as bonsai and roses and flowering woody plants. Knowing when and how is a deeper study.

There is usually a page with a formula for spacing in Pomology books. It depends on the dwarfing root stocks of your trees how big they will become. Different trees require different spacing.

Plants can take up to to 3 years to establish themselves. But to quicken process Spread molasses flakes under neath trees than make a tree ring out of shredded wood chips mulch on top very thick layer. Add organic fertilizer to the outer ring of mulch ring this is to help train the feeder rootes outwards

Biggest obstacle to our hard cider orchard at the moment is finding the land. Can't afford anything in Nebraska which is fine because with climate change, the summers are too brutal for small scale Cidery work. We're looking at NY to be closer to our family in Quebec but a lot of farm ready plots have many restrictions put in place by neighbors and past owners that make it impossible to establish an orchard for our purposes.
